Machine Learning and Deep Learning Approaches for Guava Disease Detection

A larger proportion of crops face disease outbreaks, making agricultural output difficult. Detecting and predicting diseases at an early stage can enhance productivity. Guava, a tropical and subtropical fruit, is cultivated in various countries. In regions such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, and South America, guava cultivation faces significant challenges due to diseases like Canker, Dot, Mummification, Phytophthora, Scab, and Styler and Root. Traditional diagnosis methods based on visual observation are often unreliable and time-consuming. To address this, we developed an automated system leveraging deep learning techniques. Our study utilized a dataset comprising 4046 guava leaf images categorized into these seven disease classes. We compared the performance of traditional methods with deep learning approaches using vision transformers and transfer learning. The results demonstrate the superiority of deep learning methods over traditional approaches, where traditional machine learning model SVM gave accuracy near 78% and deep learning methods gave over 90%. The transfer learning method gave an accuracy of nearly 97% and on the other hand, the vision transformer gave accuracy of 98%. Personal identification is important to protect data from cyber-attacks. Minutiae feature extraction and matching are key tasks for recognizing fingerprints and are essential to Automatic Fingerprint Recognition (AFR) systems. Fingerprint recognition technologies are becoming increasingly significant in preventing identity theft and ensuring accurate identification. However, the major problem is their identification sensors are vulnerable to presentation or spoofing attacks from the fake fingerprint samples. To overcome these problems, an improved AKAZE is introduced for feature extraction and feature matching in the process of fingerprint identification. Thinning and dilation methods are used for preprocessing the image and Improved AKAZE is used for feature extraction of the fingerprint images. After extracting features, the proposed Improved AKAZE is used for identifying and matching those fingerprint images. The proposed method is evaluated on publicly available FVC2004 dataset. The results show that the improved AKAZE achieved 99.95% of accuracy in identification and matching of fingerprint images. © 2024 IEEE.

In the rapidly evolving e-commerce industry, the ability to select high-quality data for model training is essential. This study introduces the High-Utility Sequential Pattern Mining using SHAP values (HUSPM-SHAP) model, a utility mining based active learning strategy, to tackle this challenge. We found that the parameter settings for positive and negative SHAP values affect the mining results of the model, introducing a key consideration into the active learning framework. Unlike traditional SHAP, which evaluates individual elements, HUSPM-SHAP utilizes SHAP values in combination with HUSPM to identify the valuable of high-utility sequential patterns for improving prediction models. In experiments to predict behaviors that actually lead to purchases, the developed HUSPM-SHAP model shows its superiority in different scenarios. The model's ability to reduce labeling requirements while maintaining high predictive performance is highlighted. Our results show that the model is able to refine the processing of e-commerce data and lead to optimized, cost-efficient prediction modeling. © 2024 IEEE.

To fortify security mechanisms in software systems for the Internet of Things (IoT), this article presents a framework for AI-Enhanced Virtual Twin Modelling. In order to track and examine the actions of IoT devices in real-time, the suggested method makes use of virtual twin technology that is combined with machine learning techniques. Automated response generation, continuous threat assessment, and anomaly detection are made possible by creating a digital clone of the actual IoT network using the virtual twin paradigm. By combining deep learning models like CNNs and LSTMs, it becomes easier to forecast possible security risks in network traffic data by seeing intricate spatial and temporal patterns. When tested in a virtual Internet of Things (IoT) setting, the suggested framework outperforms conventional rule-based approaches by a wide margin, reducing reaction time by 35% while achieving an accuracy of 9 6. 2 %in threat identification. © 2024 IEEE.

Segmentation of brain tumors aids in diagnosing the disease early, planning treatment, and monitoring its progression in medical image analysis. Automation is necessary to eliminate the time and variability associated with traditional segmentation methods. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and U-Net architectures have demonstrated their efficiency and effectiveness in segmenting brain tumors from MRI images using deep learning techniques. The paper presents an improved U-Net-based segmentation algorithm that integrates nested skip paths to improve encoder-decoder feature fusion. The performance of segmentation was optimized by utilizing a variety of activation functions and loss functions, including Dice Loss and Intersection over Union (IoU). A high level of accuracy was demonstrated in the proposed model when it was evaluated using the LGG Segmentation Dataset. The proposed approach for segmenting medical images has been shown to be both robust and efficient in a comparative analysis. © 2025 The Authors

Self Supervised Representation Learning (SSRepL) can capture meaningful and robust representations of the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) data and have the potential to improve the model's performance on also downstream different types of Neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD) detection. In this paper, a novel SSRepL and Transfer Learning (TL)-based framework that incorporates a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and a Gated Recurrent Units (GRU) model is proposed to detect children with potential symptoms of ADHD. This model uses Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals extracted during visual attention tasks to accurately detect ADHD by preprocessing EEG signal quality through normalization, filtering, and data balancing. For the experimental analysis, we use three different models: 1) SSRepL and TL-based LSTM-GRU model named as SSRepL-ADHD, which integrates LSTM and GRU layers to capture temporal dependencies in the data, 2) lightweight SSRepL-based DNN model (LSSRepL-DNN), and 3) Random Forest (RF). In the study, these models are thoroughly evaluated using well-known performance metrics (i.e., accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score). The results show that the proposed SSRepL-ADHD model achieves the maximum accuracy of 81.11% while admitting the difficulties associated with dataset imbalance and feature selection. © 2024 IEEE.
