Cervical cancer is one of the most common causes of death among women worldwide. However, this fatal disease can be treated, and the mortality rate can be decreased if detected at an early stage. The Papanicolaou test is the gold standard for screening cervical cancer patients. However, the process of manual inspection is tedious and subject to manual errors. Thus, computer-based automatic screening is considered a viable alternative. To this end, in the present work, we have developed a novel system for classifying cervical cancer images as either normal or malignant. We have used the Herlev dataset in this study, which is the standard Pap smear image benchmark dataset. The proposed framework uses multiple base deep learning frameworks, namely Vision Transformer, Xception, VGG-19, VGG-16, and ResNet-101, for classification. Further, we have introduced a novel reward-based weighing technique to decide the weights of individual classifiers, which are, in turn, used to make decisions about the final class label of an input image using the weighted average technique. The proposed framework achieves an overall accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and AUC of 96%, 94%, 92%, 93%, and 94%, respectively, for the binary classification task that is normal vs. malignant. An elaborate study of the performance achieved by our proposed framework on the Herlev dataset shows it to be both robust and effective for the Pap smear image classification task. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Autonomous drones and deep learning neural networks are becoming popular tools to revolutionize aircraft operations by partially automating visual inspection processes in aircraft maintenance. The research aims to provide a trustworthy method for locating and classifying surface flaws on aircraft, such as dents, fractures, corrosion, and a few other anomalies. To assess the model performance with and without a lightweight network integration, the implementation merges YOLOv8 and Mobile Net architectures, using dropout regularization and data augmentation approaches. To guarantee the model's performance in low-light situations, the dataset has been carefully selected to contain images replicating such settings. Annotation, environment setup, model training, and online dataset scraping are all covered by the thorough technique. A web-scraped dataset is used to train and validate two popular semantic segmentation algorithms, YOLOv8 and Mobile Net, which show enough performance for segmenting and grading aircraft surface problems in practical settings. The results show that precision and recall values are improved using a hybrid technique that ensembles trained Mobile Net and YOLOv8 models. Using COCO metrics, in the proposed approach an assessment of Ensemble WBF, Mobile Net-YOLO, and YOLOv8 outcomes on test and validation sets, guaranteed reliable object recognition and classification abilities. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

One of the biggest worldwide sectors is aviation, hence delays in flight services not only perturb customers but also result in large losses for airlines. Forecasting these delays is still difficult because of the erratic character of elements like climate. Accurate projections are challenging even using accepted analytical methods. This work employs sophisticated deep learning methods to enhance the forecast of aircraft delays - more especially, those resulting from weather-related *** investigate their effect on aircraft delays using datasets from both the United States and India, including meteorological fluctuations. Built on a Multilayered Memory Fusion Network, the model captures intricate temporal patterns in the data by merging Bidirectional LSTM (Bi-LSTM) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). This network generates more accurate forecasts and is meant to effectively manage several factors. For the United States dataset, the proposed network attained a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) score of 72.41 and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) scores of 118.87 and 11.83 and 21.82 for India respectively. Our deep learning methodology clearly predicts flight delays as these performance measures are far better than those attained by conventional machine learning techniques, including linear regression. By using these cutting-edge algorithms, the research provides a more accurate way to forecast flight delays, hence perhaps lowering passenger discontent and airline financial losses. © 2025 The Author(s).

The pervasive presence of IoT sensing devices combined with advances in cloud-based services has made historical- and forecast weather data services widely available for use in smart software systems. The contribution of this paper is the design, performance evaluation, and validation of a software implementation of model-based dynamic fire risk prediction for wooden homes using local weather data. A key feature of the implementation is that the software architecture has been designed to support the use of different underlying cloud-based weather data services, and the integration as a service in third-party smart systems embedding fire risk predictions. The performed evaluation shows that the implementation is efficient, as weather data can be retrieved, preprocessed and fire risk predictions computed within seconds using only in the order of Kb's of memory;and accurate considering our sets of data, as the fire risks computed by the implementation have been validated against a set of in-situ measurements. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.. Swallowing assessment is a crucial task to reveal swallowing abnormalities. There are multiple modalities to analyze swallowing kinematics, such as videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), which is the gold standard method, and high-resolution cervical auscultation (HRCA), which is a noninvasive technique that uses a triaxial accelerometer attached to the patient's neck. Deep learning models play an essential role in data driven analysis of swallowing landmarks using VFSS and/or HRCA as input data. Most of these models utilize convolutional and recurrent neural networks. Here, we investigate the ability of transformers to analyze swallowing kinematics;specifically upper esophageal sphincter opening and laryngeal vestibule closure using HRCA signals. We tested the model using an independent test dataset to assess the generalizability of the proposed network. The proposed network achieved an average detection accuracy higher than 90% and 85% for both segmentation tasks, which outperform the hybrid neural networks from the literature, and the model obtained high-performance measures for the independent dataset, showing the transformers' ability to generalize on unseen data. © 2024 IEEE.
