Non-Noether symmetries and conservative quantities of nonholonomic nonconservative dynamical systems are investigated in this paper. Based on the relationships among motion, nonconservative forces, nonholonomic constrained forces and Lagrangian, non-Noether symmetries and Lutzky conservative quantities are presented for nonholonomic nonconservative dynamical systems. The relation between non-Noether symmetry and Noether symmetry is discussed and it is further shown that non-Noether conservative quantities can be obtained by a complete set of Noether invariants. Finally, an example is given to illustrate these results.

Although conventional compilers implement a wide range of optimization techniques, they frequently miss opportunities to optimize the use of abstractions, largely because they are not designed to recognize and use the relevant semantic information about such abstractions. In this position paper, we propose a set of annotations to help communicate high-level semantic information about abstractions to the compiler, thereby enabling the large body of traditional compiler optimizations to be applied to the use of those abstractions. A major challenge for quantum computation in ion trap systems is scalable integration of error correction and fault tolerance. We analyze a distributed architecture with rapid high-fidelity local control within nodes and entangled links between nodes alleviating long-distance transport. We demonstrate fault-tolerant operator measurements which are used for error correction and nonlocal gates. This scheme is readily applied to linear ion traps which cannot be scaled up beyond a few ions per individual trap but which have access to a probabilistic entanglement mechanism. A proof-of-concept system is presented which is within the reach of current experiment.

Large-scale scientific research often relies on the collaborative use of Grid and e-Science infrastructures that provide computational or storage related resources. One of the ideas of these modern infrastructures is to facilitate the routine interaction of scientists and their workflows with advanced problem solving tools and computational resources. While many production Grid projects and e-Science infrastructures have begun to offer services for the usage of resources to end-users during the past several years, the corresponding emerging standards defined by GGF and OASIS still appear to be in flux. In this paper, we present the GridBean technology that bridges the gap between the constantly changing basic Grid or e-Science infrastructures and the need of stable application development environments for the Grid users.
