One of the new emerging application strategies for optimization is the hybridization of existing metaheuristics. The research combines the unique paradigms of solution space sampling of SOMA and memory retention capabilities of Scatter Search for the task of capacitated vehicle routing problem. The new hybrid heuristic is tested on the Taillard sets and obtains good results.

In this paper we are dealing with the morphological matrix applied at the selection of the most appropriate solution of the manipulator travel frame design projection. The morphology enables to analyze all the solutions that may occur during both the development and the construction of the equipment. In particular it is useful at the machine and the mechanics constructions. The morphology concerns the analysis and the permutations of any possible solutions of the construction element development. This method is characterized by creation of the prognosis and the partial data matrix formations. Based on the permutations and the combinations of the respective elements characteristics the general characteristic is resulting. The morphological analysis consists of several phases. Initially it is necessary to make the exact description of the examined task. Following is the determination of the characteristic attributes thus the attributes and their combinations what the solution is depending on. Moreover are considering the impact and the effect of the respective parameters and the same their combinations regarding the most applicable solution.

Developed by Yang et al. in 2007, a user-friendly (k, n)-threshold scheme based on Shamir's polynomial with different primes calculates how pixels in a block and their left pixels differ from each other. Based on those differences, the prime number for Shamir's polynomial can be determined as well as the differences distributed to shares by using Shamir's polynomial. This work attempts to calculate the differences between pixels in a block by using the JPEG-LS median edge predictor. Given the role of this predictor, the generated differences refer to both the left pixel and its neighboring pixels, thus diminishing the values of differences and enhancing the reconstructed image quality. Experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of using the JPEG-LS median edge predictor. ©2012 ISSN 2073-4212.

This paper considers nonlinear dynamical networks consisting of individually iISS (integral input-to-state stable) subsystems which are not necessarily ISS (input-to-state stable). Stability criteria for internal and external stability of the networks are developed in view of both necessity and sufficiency. For the sufficiency, we show how we can construct a Lyapunov function of the network explicitly under the assumption that a cyclic small-gain condition is satisfied. The cyclic small-gain condition is shown to be equivalent to a matrix-like condition. The two conditions and their equivalence precisely generalize some central ISS results in the literature. Moreover, the necessity of the matrix-like condition is established. The allowable number of non-ISS subsystems for stability of the network is discussed through several necessity conditions.

This paper presents human-robot communication for a monitoring support system in an Intelligent Space. An Intelligent Space (iSpace) is a space in which many intelligent devices are installed to observe the user's environment. In this paper, we apply the iSpace observation function to a monitoring system used for maintaining the safety of elderly persons receiving home-care support. In addition, we use a mobile robot as a tool to deliver monitoring results to care assistants. We focus on an ethological approach for designing robot behaviors for human-robot communication. The implementation of these robot behaviors based on an ethological approach, and the results of an experiment conducted to evaluate these behaviors, are then presented.

QoSHVCP: Hybrid Vehicular Communications Protocol with QoS prioritization for safety applications

This paper introduces a hybrid communication paradigm for achieving seamless connectivity in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs), wherein the connectivity is often affected by changes in the dynamic topology, vehicles' speed, as well as the traffic density. Our proposed technique named QoS-oriented Hybrid Vehicular Communications Protocol (QoSHVCP) exploits both existing network infrastructure through a Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I), as well as a traditional Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) connection that could satisfy Quality-of-Service requirements. QoSHVCP is based on a V2V-V2I protocol switching algorithm, executed in a distributed fashion by each vehicle and is based on the cost function for alternative paths each time it needs to transmit a message. We utilize time delay as a performance metric and present the delay propagation rates when vehicles are transmitting high priority messages via QoSHVCP. Simulation results indicate that simultaneous usage of preexisting network infrastructure along with intervehicular communication provide lower delays, while maintaining the level of user's performance. The paper gives design methods dedicated to speed control of Direct Current (DC) and Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motors in the framework of servo systems. Two design approaches are offered for position and speed control of servo systems with inner current control loops. The PI and PID controllers in these approaches are tuned on the basis the Extended Symmetrical Optimum method and of the double parameterization of Symmetrical Optimum method. Cost-effective features are ensured by simple controller designs and easy implementations, and they are illustrated by means of a case study that includes simulation results. A two-degree-of-freedom interpretation is given. A BLDC motor application applied to mechatronic systems is presented.

Adaptive systems are critical for future space and other unmanned and intelligent systems. Verification of these systems is also critical for their use in systems with potential harm to human life or with large financial investments. Due to their nondeterministic nature and extremely large state space, current methods for verification of software systems are not adequate to provide a high level of assurance for them. The combination of stabilization science, high performance computing simulations, compositional verification and traditional verification techniques, plus operational monitors, provides a complete approach to verification and deployment of adaptive systems that has not been used before.
