The terahertz (THz) band (0.1-10 THz) is widely considered to be a candidate band for the sixth-generation mobile communication technology (6G). However, due to its short wavelength (less than 1 mm), scattering becomes a particularly significant propagation mechanism. In previous studies, we proposed a scattering model to characterize the scattering in THz bands, which can only reconstruct the scattering in the incidence plane. In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) stochastic model is proposed to characterize the THz scattering on rough surfaces. Then, we reconstruct the scattering on rough surfaces with different shapes and under different incidence angles utilizing the proposed model. Good agreements can be achieved between the proposed model and full-wave simulation results. This stochastic 3D scattering model can be integrated into the standard channel modeling framework to realize more realistic THz channel data for the evaluation of 6G.

Potato is a maj or food crop worldwide, providing essential nutrients to millions. However, various diseases can severely affect potato crops, leading to reduced yield and quality. Early disease detection is crucial for effective disease management and control. This study presents a deep learning-based approach using CNN to autonomously diagnose potato leaf diseases. The model leverages the Plant Village dataset, which contains images of potato leaves in both healthy and diseased states. The proposed method demonstrates high accuracy in identifying multiple potato leaf diseases, offering promising results for application in precision agriculture. By utilizing CNN s, the model effectively detects and classifies disease symptoms, providing a reliable tool for early intervention in agricultural practices. The approach's potential impact on improving crop yield and minimizing losses due to diseases is highlighted, making it a significant contribution to smart farming techniques. The study underscores the importance of deep learning in modern agricultural practices and its role in enhancing disease management strategies.

Presidential actions on Jan 20, 2025, by President Donald Trump, including executive orders, have delayed access to or led to the removal of crucial public health data sources in the USA. The continuous collection and maintenance of health data support public health, safety, and security associated with diseases such as seasonal influenza. To show how public health data surveillance enhances public health practice, we analysed data from seven US Government-maintained sources associated with seasonal influenza. We fit two models that forecast the number of national incident influenza hospitalisations in the USA: (1) a data-rich model incorporating data from all seven Government data sources;and (2) a data-poor model built using a single Government hospitalisation data source, representing the minimal required information to produce a forecast of influenza hospitalisations. The data-rich model generated reliable forecasts useful for public health decision making, whereas the predictions using the data-poor model were highly uncertain, rendering them impractical. Thus, health data can serve as a transparent and standardised foundation to improve domestic and global health. Therefore, a plan should be developed to safeguard public health data as a public good. © 2025 The Author(s)

Integer factorization is a significant problem, with implications for the security of widely-used cryptographic schemes. No efficient classical algorithm for polynomial-time integer factorization has been found despite extensive research. Although Peter Shor’s breakthrough quantum algorithm offers a viable solution, current limitations of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers hinder its practical implementation. To address this, researchers have explored alternative methods for factorization suitable for NISQ devices. One such method is the Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm, which treats factoring as an optimization problem defined over binary bits, resulting in various problematic aspects. In this paper, we explore the Func-QAOA approach for factorization, which premises overcoming some of the limitations of previous approaches and allows the incorporation of more advanced factorization techniques. After reviewing the most promising quantum implementations for integer arithmetics, we present a few illustrative examples to demonstrate the efficacy of the Func-QAOA approach and discuss methods to reduce the search space to speed up the optimization process. Rethinking domain generalization in medical image segmentation: One image as one domain

Medical image segmentation faces persistent challenges from domain discrepancies, particularly when integrating data across institutions. Notably, variations within single centers—driven by differences in scanner configurations or imaging protocols—often create shifts as substantial as those observed between facilities. To overcome these limitations, our work introduces the One Image as One Domain (OIOD) hypothesis, treating each image as an independent domain to enable adaptable generalization. Building on this principle, we present UniDDG, a disentanglement-driven framework that eliminates dependency on domain labels while remaining adaptable to both single- and multi-source scenarios. The architecture maintains consistent complexity regardless of data sources, streamlining implementation across clinical environments. UniDDG operates by isolating anatomical features from device-specific characteristics through cross-batch recombination of content and style components during segmentation and reconstruction. This process preserves structural consistency across imaging conditions while discarding scanner-induced artifacts. To further bolster resilience, two complementary innovations are integrated: Expansion Mask Attention (EMA) prioritizes anatomical boundaries in low-contrast regions, while Style Augmentation (SA) emulates diverse acquisition parameters by generating synthetic style variations. Validation across optic disc/cup and prostate segmentation tasks demonstrates the framework’s efficacy. In multi-to-single-center generalization, UniDDG achieved Dice scores of 84.43% (optic disc and optic cup) and 86.96% (prostate), and achieved that of 88.91% and 88.56% respectively for single-center generalization—surpassing existing state-of-the-art methods. These results highlight its capacity to mitigate domain discrepancies without architectural modifications, offering a scalable solution for real-world clinical heterogeneity. Classification of soil is crucial for the agricultural domain as it is an essential task in geology and engineering domains. Various procedures are proposed to classify soil types in the literature, but many of them consumed much time or required specially designed equipments/applications. Classification of soil involves the accounting of various factors due to its diversified nature. It can be observed that several critical domain-oriented decisions often depend on the type of soil like farmers might be benefitted from knowing the kind of soil to choose crops accordingly for cultivation. We have employed different Convolution Neural Network (CNN) architectures to identify the soil type accurately in real-time. This paper describes the comparative evaluation in terms of performances of various CNN architectures, namely, ResNet50, VGG19, MobileNetV2, VGG16, NASNetMobile, and InceptionV3. These CNN models are used to classify four types of soils: Clay, Black, Alluvial, and Red. The performance of the ResNet50 model is the best with a training accuracy and training loss of 99.47% and 0.0252, respectively compared to other competing models considered in this paper. © 2021 IEEE.

Abstract: Over the past decades, interest has increased in studying different techniques to detect the importance of microbubbles in many industrial and medical applications such as mechanisms of hydraulic machinery cavitation erosion, histotripsy, and lithotripsy. The behavior from early irregular oscillations to late regular oscillations of spherical microcavitation bubbles produced by lasers in water was studied by means of plasma photography. Repetition of such delayed oscillations results in quantities of gas/vapour inside the spherical bubbles. Using the modified Gilmore model of cavitation microbubble dynamics, calculations were made for the laser pulse energy, microbubble radius behavior, and microbubble growth rate. Additionally, the pressure evolution inside the bubble, and pressures distribution surrounding of microbubbles in liquid are investigated under the effect of different values of initial cavitation of microbubble radius. The effect of enthalpy is considered into account. The proposed model is solved numerically using numerical techniques as a finite difference method. In addition, the radius of the microbubbles is calculated as a function of time under the influence of the initial radius of these laser-induced microcavitations. Moreover, some physical properties and numerical calculations of the presented mathematical model for cavitation induced by lasers bubbles are deduced, analyzed and investigated. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. 2024.

Deep learning (DL), a relatively recent AI technique, has been successfully applied to the problem of automated modulation categorization (AMC), with promising results. An essential part of developing the spectrum-sensing capabilities needed by software-defined radio is carrying out radio signal classification jobs, which we did in this research by introducing a better deep neural architecture. Different detection techniques were utilized in the literature; however, DL neural networks are recently utilized in this field. Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) which is one variation of the RNN network, and other techniques are some of the employed DL architectures in the field of AMC. In this paper, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model has been built to automatically classify ten-modulation formats correctly. The suggested CNN network is constructed mainly of six-Convolutional layers. The overall number of trainable parameters in the proposed network is 1,757,962. Thus, the network accuracy, which was achieved during the training reached more than 90%. Python programming packages have been used to implement the suggested approach using *** platform, which provides wide-range of facilities.

Natural Language Processing nowadays provides scientists with many research areas and opportunities, but as with most applied sciences, our goal in Natural Language Processing is to refine the underlying science and technology until it can be used reliably for business purposes. Transformer models, such as GPT or BERT, are currently showing outstanding results in the field of natural-language processing, but they require huge computational power and data to teach, but these conditions can only be met by larger research centers and large companies, and their inaccuracy makes them unsuitable for use as a ‘business as usual’ (BAU) solution. In this paper, we present a solution that is able to overcome these problems by focusing on accuracy and usability, and that can also bring a new perspective to the process of teaching deep learning models.
