Nowadays, when talking about cybersecurity, the talk is associated with the most important event in the world during the year 2020, which is COVID-19. Although the digital world exists parallel to the real world, humanity did not have to rely on the Internet to accomplish its tasks. However, the situation changed after the Corona pandemic, as the world found itself in front of one option, which is to work remotely to overcome the impact of the pandemic. Therefore, with this massive and sudden digital transformation on the global level, cyber criminals have many opportunities through cyber vulnerabilities that appear due to the rapid shift to remote work. In this study, we presented an accurate review of the effects that accompanied the occurrence of the Coronavirus pandemic on cybersecurity. Moreover, the world has seen a growing number of cyber-attacks due to these effects, which led to attract the attention to the importance of cyber security to ensure full benefit from digital services without exposure to damage. Also, we indicated in this paper a number of recommendations that contribute to mitigating the damages of cyber-attacks or preventing their occurrence. Furthermore, Cyber security should be a complete approach and not limited to the technical side, where the awareness of the community about cyber risks should contribute to preventing cyber criminals from achieving their goals.

Prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer (BC) is an essential prerequisite for the selection of proper treatment. The substantial pressure due to the increase of demand for faster and more precise diagnostic results drives for automatic solutions. In the past decade, deep learning techniques have demonstrated their power over several domains, and computer-Aided (CAD) diagnostic became one of them. However, when it comes to the analysis of Whole Slide Images (WSIs), most of the existing works compute predictions from levels independently. This is, however, in contrast to the histopathologist expert approach who requires to see a global architecture of tissue structures important in BC classification. We present a deep learning-based solution and framework for processing WSIs based on a novel approach utilizing the advantages of image levels. We apply the weighing of information extracted from several levels into the final classification of the malignancy. Our results demonstrate the profitability of global information with an increase of accuracy from 72.2% to 84.8%. © 2021, CC BY.

The alignment of tissue between histopathological whole-slide-images (WSI) is crucial for research and clinical applications. Advances in computing, deep learning, and availability of large WSI datasets have revolutionised WSI analysis. Therefore, the current state-of-the-art in WSI registration is unclear. To address this, we conducted the ACROBAT challenge, based on the largest WSI registration dataset to date, including 4,212 WSIs from 1,152 breast cancer patients. The challenge objective was to align WSIs of tissue that was stained with routine diagnostic immunohistochemistry to its H&E-stained counterpart. We compare the performance of eight WSI registration algorithms, including an investigation of the impact of different WSI properties and clinical covariates. We find that conceptually distinct WSI registration methods can lead to highly accurate registration performances and identify covariates that impact performances across methods. These results establish the current state-of-the-art in WSI registration and guide researchers in selecting and developing methods. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Multimodal data modeling has emerged as a powerful approach in clinical research, enabling the integration of diverse data types such as imaging, genomics, wearable sensors, and electronic health records. Despite its potential to improve diagnostic accuracy and support personalized care, modeling such heterogeneous data presents significant technical challenges. This systematic review synthesizes findings from 69 studies to identify common obstacles, including missing modalities, limited sample sizes, dimensionality imbalance, interpretability issues, and finding the optimal fusion techniques. We highlight recent methodological advances, such as transfer learning, generative models, attention mechanisms, and neural architecture search that offer promising solutions. By mapping current trends and innovations, this review provides a comprehensive overview of the field and offers practical insights to guide future research and development in multimodal modeling for medical applications. © 2025, CC BY.

The authors analyze the decision-making process for choosing a future specialty by an entrant in a large city, which is associated with solving a number of tasks of multicriteria choice. The information analysis of the procedures for choosing a future specialty by school graduates using cognitive cards is carried out. The analysis takes into account those factors whose impact is considered to be the most significant. A model of the data analysis procedure is developed to determine the person’s professional inclinations and abilities on the basis of the results of vocational guidance tests, which enabled to estimate comprehensively the professional personality traits. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The area of security of biometric access control systems is a rapidly growing field of scientific studies, diversely applicable in banking, electronic payment, etc. The paper presents the implementation of an intelligent algorithm hybrid biometric identification with the use of VistaFA2, IriTech and Futronic scanners. The system uses the biometric reading of human iris, face and fingerprints. An intelligent module determines a similarity measure of a processed hybrid feature vector to the consecutive records in the access database. This approach helps to increase the reliability of identification systems and reduces the risk of counterfeits and intrusion into restricted access resources. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2019.

Symbolic regression searches for analytic expressions that accurately describe studied phenomena. The main attraction of this approach is that it returns an interpretable model that can be insightful to users. Historically, the majority of algorithms for symbolic regression have been based on evolutionary algorithms. However, there has been a recent surge of new proposals that instead utilize approaches such as enumeration algorithms, mixed linear integer programming, neural networks, and Bayesian optimization. In order to assess how well these new approaches behave on a set of common challenges often faced in real-world data, we hosted a competition at the 2022 Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference consisting of different synthetic and real-world datasets which were blind to entrants. For the real-world track, we assessed interpretability in a realistic way by using a domain expert to judge the trustworthiness of candidate models. We present an in-depth analysis of the results obtained in this competition, discuss current challenges of symbolic regression algorithms and highlight possible improvements for future competitions. Fetoscopy laser photocoagulation is a widely adopted procedure for treating Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). The procedure involves photocoagulation pathological anastomoses to restore a physiological blood exchange among twins. The procedure is particularly challenging, from the surgeon's side, due to the limited field of view, poor manoeuvrability of the fetoscope, poor visibility due to amniotic fluid turbidity, and variability in illumination. These challenges may lead to increased surgery time and incomplete ablation of pathological anastomoses, resulting in persistent TTTS. computer-assisted intervention (CAI) can provide TTTS surgeons with decision support and context awareness by identifying key structures in the scene and expanding the fetoscopic field of view through video mosaicking. Research in this domain has been hampered by the lack of high-quality data to design, develop and test CAI algorithms. Through the Fetoscopic Placental Vessel Segmentation and Registration (FetReg2021) challenge, which was organized as part of the MICCAI2021 Endoscopic Vision (EndoVis) challenge, we released the first large-scale multi-center TTTS dataset for the development of generalized and robust semantic segmentation and video mosaicking algorithms with a focus on creating drift-free mosaics from long duration fetoscopy videos. For this challenge, we released a dataset of 2060 images, pixel-annotated for vessels, tool, fetus and background classes, from 18 in-vivo TTTS fetoscopy procedures and 18 short video clips of an average length of 411 frames for developing placental scene segmentation and frame registration for mosaicking techniques. Seven teams participated in this challenge and their model performance was assessed on an unseen test dataset of 658 pixel-annotated images from 6 fetoscopic procedures and 6 short clips. Resource management in computing is a very challenging problem that involves making sequential decisions. Resource limitations, resource heterogeneity, dynamic and diverse nature of workload, and the unpredictability of fog/edge computing environments have made resource management even more challenging to be considered in the fog landscape. Recently Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) based solutions are adopted to solve this problem. AI/ML methods with the capability to make sequential decisions like reinforcement learning seem most promising for these type of problems. But these algorithms come with their own challenges such as high variance, explainability, and online training. The continuously changing fog/edge environment dynamics require solutions that learn online, adopting changing computing environment. In this paper, we used standard review methodology to conduct this Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to analyze the role of AI/ML algorithms and the challenges in the applicability of these algorithms for resource management in fog/edge computing environments. Further, various machine learning, deep learning and reinforcement learning techniques for edge AI management have been discussed. Furthermore, we have presented the background and current status of AI/ML-based Fog/Edge Computing. Moreover, a taxonomy of AI/ML-based resource management techniques for fog/edge computing has been proposed and compared the existing techniques based on the proposed taxonomy. Finally, open challenges and promising future research directions have been identified and discussed in the area of AI/ML-based fog/edge computing. Copyright © 2022, The Authors.
