Numerous operating systems (OS) options are now accessible to users as a result of the mobile phone market's rapid growth. It is critical for mobile phone manufacturers and marketers to understand customer preferences for various OSs. Through the use of machine learning techniques, this study seeks to predict mobile OS preferences and assess the prediction's accuracy. Although prior research has examined user preferences across a range of topics, there is a study gap in the use of machine learning techniques to predict OS preferences on mobile phones. The suggested approach uses a Random Forest algorithm, which uses user attributes like age, occupation, income, and satisfaction as input data. 397 smartphone users are included in the sample. The accuracy of the results, 82.9 percent, shows how successful the prediction model is. Due to their great accuracy, the chosen characteristics and Random Forest algorithm were able to accurately identify underlying trends and forecast OS preferences. Insights into OS preference prediction on mobile phones using machine learning are provided in this work, which helps to close the research gap. The research can help mobile phone makers improve user happiness and market competitiveness by modifying their offerings in terms of features, goods, and marketing tactics to better suit user preferences. © 2023 IEEE.

The goal of capstone project is to train students to be able to apply the required knowledge and skill to collaboratively complete the assigned work. The project-based learning (PBL) is a popular strategy used by teachers to guide students to organize teams to solve problem collaboratively and to enhance students' creative and problem solving abilities in capstone project. However, the traditional PBL strategy cannot effectively enhance the students' abilities because the previous good cases cannot be easily shared and reused. Therefore, our idea is to develop a good platform to be able to share and reuse the cases together with portfolios to motivate student's imaginative power and creativity and the teachers can easily assess the students' learning achievements. Because Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) techniques consisting of cases retrieve, reuse, revise and retain can be used to model the computer reasoning, we develop a project-based learning platform using the CBR techniques to provide the case scaffoldings and reserve the learning portfolio. We further design an experiment based upon our learning platform to complete the e-book visual creative design. The experimental result shows that the given appropriate learning scaffoldings can guide students to improve the creative and problem solving abilities.

Hidden Markov models (HMMs) are a popular approach for modeling sequential data, typically based on the assumption of a first-order Markov chain. In other words, only one-step back dependencies are modeled which is a rather unrealistic assumption in most applications. In this paper, we propose a method for postulating HMMs with approximately infinitely-long time-dependencies. Our approach considers the whole history of model states in the postulated dependencies, by making use of a recently proposed nonparametric Bayesian method for modeling label sequences with infinitely-long time dependencies, namely the sequence memoizer. We manage to derive training and inference algorithms for our model with computational costs identical to simple first-order HMMs, despite its entailed infinitely-long time-dependencies, by employing a mean-field-like approximation. The efficacy of our proposed model is experimentally demonstrated. © 2016 World Scientific Publishing Company.

The bullying prevention education aims to teach students the management of cognition and emotion conflicts. To prevent bullying, the awareness and adult involvement are two key prerequisites. However, the awareness of bullies and victims is the challenging and important issue. In this paper, the Interactive Storytelling is proposed to provide assessment for bullies and victims. Storytelling is usually used in the teaching to motivate students to realize the abstract concepts through the stories. The storytelling is a good approach to situate students in specific scenario for easily providing the assessment and guidance for students to resolve the conflicts. To record the students' storytelling process, the Scratch multimedia editing tool is used as platform to support the storytelling by making animation. To support the assessment, the story template is proposed using knowledge acquisition approach. Firstly, the students are situated in the predefined story background. Next, students can choose one action from several predefined story branches and perform the main character by typing the script and voice recording. Through the acting of roles as bullies or victims, the teacher can realize the students' thinking while in the cognition and emotion conflicts situations. In the experiment, 63 junior high school students were participated in the pilot study. The students were engaged in the digital storytelling and were willing to express their thinking and the digital storytelling can effectively support the awareness the bullying. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

The paper reports on the design of a prototype system to facilitate intertwining of on-line and off-line practices during collaborative networked music master classes. Our approach links with recent theoretical thinking inspired from the concept of communities of practice and aims to devise a system to provide a virtual 'place' for engaging in the practice the community is about. This implies a focus not only on community management (i.e., discovering, building, maintaining community) but also on constructing and reconstructing practice using a suitable interactive practice vocabulary. We demonstrate the challenges involved in building domain-specific, practice-oriented interactive vocabularies for collaborative music lessons and report on our recent experiences on the interplay between on-line and off-line practice. The following paper introduces the experimental development of an energy-efficient, intelligent outdoor lighting management and monitoring system with remote control. The data communication system is based on wireless personal area networks that support IP technology for connecting all nodes and network entities with a sink node which is the gateway to the remote management and monitoring service. The proposed system maintains lighting at a low level until vehicle or pedestrian motion is detected by a set of proximity sensors. In this case, the level of lighting is increased in order to provide better visibility while the area is occupied and dims to a lower level when the area is clear again. At the same time, data regarding lamp parameters like status and operation dimming level are transferred to the management system via a bidirectional channel that may receive feedback based on a certain system operation profile. The system can be easily installed over street lighting systems that use old and inefficient technologies without major cost thus, lowering energy consumption. The technologies used can make it part of a larger IP network following the concept of "internet of things" which may support smart road applications. Some aspects of the wireless communication system and experimental measurements are presented and discussed. © 2012 IEEE.

The application of health information technology can help staffs of long-term care institution to arrange daily care of residents, and provide better personalized care. In this study, we developed a classification and grading system (CGS) for resident assessment which grades individuals in terms of the severity of five functional status assessment aspects of mental, movement, eating, toilet (urination and defecation function) and medical treatment. By the aid of CGS, residents can be classified into different care types, and the assessment result can assist care professionals to facilitate their care work and to deliver proper care to individual needs. We designed and built CGS by UML methodology for long-term care institution. With the systematic appraisal, we can not only help the care personnel to know care needs of the residents, but also make individual care plan and care weekly schedule, so as to achieve the aims of comprehensive assessment and personalized care. Moreover, the residents' care quality care personnel's work efficiency and institution's management efficiency can be all improved as the result of the completion of the CGS. © 2012 AICIT.

Recently the quick development of virtual technology has made technology-Aided learning more versified and education revolution more advanced. With visual and audio stimulation, technology-Aided teaching can make student pay more attention than traditional way. Currently the way of learning idioms in elementary school is of more traditional way, which, without multiple interactions with students, can only have limited learning result. In consequence, students will have little impression and result in lack of interest in learning. Traditional way often emphasizes learning through repetition rather than usage, depriving students of learning motivation. Multisensory Learning is a versatile, interactive way of learning. By using multiple channel of visual, audio, touching to stimulate senses, memory of learning content will be reinforced and fortified. Game-based learning, which has been practiced with positive results abroad, can greatly improve learning result through "learning through entertainment" method. This game-based "Idiom-Learning System" combines 2 multimedia education design models: ADDIE(Analysis ?Design?Development?Implement?Evaluation), and IMM (Instructional multimedia-Design Model), with 2 major functions of basic introduction and learning application. By using classic stories in ShanHaiJing and Chinese-style ink-wash painting as background, we hope to bring fresh experience to student in learning Chinese idioms. The use of role-playing and elements of Chinese culture can greatly enrich idiom learning process. By combining scenario with idioms question and game, students can review and learn in each level, thus piqued their interest in learning. Therefore, this research focuses on designing a game that is fit for elementary school students, who can have better learning results and more interests in learning through game-playing. This paper proposes a routing protocol enriched with an assigning mechanism and a capacity-aware scheme, enabling for efficient data flow coordination and energy conservation, among networking nodes with heterogeneous radio spectrum availability in ad-hoc cognitive radio networks. The proposed assigning mechanism is able to effectively determine efficient routing paths in a distributed networking architecture, designed based on a simulation scenario, where networking nodes operate over television white spaces (TVWS). The main target of routing in this simulation scenario is to provide optimal, high throughput data transfer, by efficiently selecting the best routing paths. Towards enabling Energy-Efficiency in the proposed research approach, a Backward Traffic Difference (BTD) estimation methodology is exploited. The novelty adopted in the proposed capacity-aware scheme arises by the ability to utilize different assignments of sleep-wake schedules, depending on different incoming traffic that each networking node receives through time. The validity of the proposed energy efficient routing protocol is verified, by conducting experimental simulations and obtaining performance evaluation results. Simulation results validate routing protocol efficiency for minimizing energy consumption, maximizing resources exchange between networking nodes and minimizing routing delays in ad-hoc cognitive radio networks. © 2013 Authors.
