The goal of this paper is to propose suitable control methods for controlling of the highly nonlinear system represented by the mathematical model of the continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) with so called van der Vusse reaction inside. Temperature of the reactant is controlled by the heat removal of the cooling liquid in the reactor's jacket. Two control strategies were suggested - adaptive control and predictive control. The adaptive approach uses recursive identification for the optimal setting of the controller. The predictive control computes input sequence by the minimizing of the cost function constructed by the difference between output variable and reference signal. Both control strategies shows good control results and pertinence for the controlling of such type of systems.

The contribution is focused on a design of a control algorithm for a nonlinear servomotor with disturbance rejection using adaptive control strategy. It is obvious that for a rejection of the measurable disturbance is a suitable control strategy based on polynomial approach. The regression (output error) models are used in the identification part, the parameter estimates of the process and disturbance models were computed using the least squares method extended by a directional (adaptive) forgetting. The controller synthesis is based on polynomial theory - pole assignment method. The designed controller was applied to a laboratory servo system Amira DR300 in real-time conditions.

Heat exchange is a classical thermal process which occurs in a wide range of industrial technologies, particularly in the energetic and chemical industry. The paper is focused on a problem of production of liquid (water) with a given temperature course in time. Heating or cooling of inflow water is realized by a heat exchanger which is equipped with heating element and a spiral tube which can serve as a cooling element. The water inside the exchanger can serve as a tank for various chemical or technological operations. The need for tempered water is quite common in many industry branches. From the control point of view, the controlled system is asymmetrical;it has two inputs (cooling and heating) and one output - temperature of water inside the exchanger. A set of predictive controllers were designed to cope with the problem and these controllers were verified and compared by a realtime control of Multifunction processcontrol Teaching System (MPCTS) - the Armfield PCT 40.

The paper is focused on identification and control of nonlinear servo system Amira DR300. The identification is performed using a black box approach. Several types of nonlinearities, which are present in the servo system, are described and presented. Results of several identification methods are compared and combined to obtain an optimal model for control design. The control algorithm is designed to cope with disturbance while respecting low expenses required for hardware and software equipments. A suboptimal control of a nonlinear servo system is proposed in the contribution. It is based on polynomial theory and was applied to laboratory servo system in realtime conditions.
