Interactive effects of scaffolding digital game-based learning and cognitive style on adult learners’ emotion, cognitive load and learning performance

There has been a little research on emotion, cognitive load, or learning performance for digital game-based learning (DGBL). However, there is still a dearth of research on investigating the interactive effects of scaffolding DGBL and cognitive style on the above three outcomes. Participants were 97 middle-aged and elder adults from a community college and randomly assigned into three groups. Taking prior knowledge as the covariate, 3 × 2 two-way MANCOVA was adopted to verify the interactive effects of scaffolding DGBL (hard scaffolding DGBL, soft scaffolding DGBL, and non-scaffolding DGBL) and cognitive style (Serialist and Holist). The findings presented that there exited significantly interactive effects of scaffolding DGBL and cognitive style on learning emotion, cognitive load, and learning performance. In hard scaffolding DGBL, learning emotion, cognitive load, and learning performance of Serialist learners were significantly better than those of Holist learners. Conversely, in soft scaffolding DGBL, learning emotion, cognitive load, and learning performance of Holist learners were significantly better than those of Serialist learners. Learning emotion, cognitive load, and learning performance of Serialist learners using hard scaffolding DGBL and Holist learners using soft scaffolding DGBL were significantly better than those of learners using non-scaffolding DGBL. The findings demonstrated concrete contributions and implications on practical promotion and theoretical development. This study ensures sufficiency of applying the cognitive-affective theory of learning with media (CATLM), cognitive load theory and cognitive style theory on DGBL, suggesting to extend the application of these theories to scaffolding.

The main purpose of this study is to explore the effects of college students' learning achievement by designing experiment of Weblog Cooperation-Competition Learning theory in Image Processing course. For the fulfillment of this research, the study employed the literature review and the quasi- experiment research. First, we explored the related literature to construct cooperation-competition learning. Then, we developed a teaching model on the blog. After the experiment was implemented, the data was collected by the test, questionnaire and certification exam. We use Ancova as the data analysis method, and try to control the covariate variables. The final results of this study were as follows: 1. The Weblog Cooperation-Competition Learning has positive effective in the promotion of student's learning achievement. 2. The Weblog Cooperation-Competition Learning has positive effective in the promotion of student's Certification exam achievement.

This article according to the composition concept of System on Chip (SoC), carries on the patent analysis in U.S and Taiwan. The article had recognized SoC international patent classification (IPC) in national, owner's distribution by the objective statistical analysis. It had understood the SoC technological development's process, also clearly observe research and develop organization's possible structure of the patent owners. Findings discovery are: 1. The SoC technology's development is at present in the growth period of the front. 2. The U.S has the constitutive design and reliable confirmation technical lead in the SoC technology's development, i.e. system on chip application plan ability. 3. Taiwan has the outstanding lead in SoC chip's manufacture and spare part conformity processing technology. 4. In SoC technology research and development output, the major part was the research and development team joint effort achievement, only had the few parts was concentrated in the specific inventor. © 2010 IEEE.

The plants and trees are either utilized partially or wholly as a source of food and for its medicinal value. A wide variety of plants, trees and its parts are used from an ancient time due to its pharmaceutical and health-beneficial properties. In this perspective, the palmyra tree has its own cultural, nutritional and medicinal value of its own. The different parts of palmyra tree like roots, stem, flower, fruit, sprout, spadix, seed embryo are potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-diabetic, anti-diuretic activity due to the presence of various bioactive compounds. This review article mainly focused on the nutritional and pharmacological properties, as well as the health benefits of the palmyra tree (Borassus flabellifer). Different parts of the palmyra tree exhibit unique medicinal value. This review outlines the pharmacological and health benefits of palmyra tree (Borassus flabellifer) especially in treating stomach and lung disorders, skin inflammations and other associated ailments. This review also highlights the possible inhibitory action of different parts of palmyra against harmful microbes and other disease-causing agents. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.

Effects of caring climate on career commitment for preschool teachers: the mediating roles of interpersonal trust and cooperative learning

Preschool teachers in Taiwan face pedagogical and emotionalchallenges that shape their job satisfaction, commitment, and socialidentity. Understanding their views on professional developmentand organizational commitment in early childhood education is critical. This study aims to examine the relationship between caring climate and career commitment and test the multiple mediating effects of interpersonal trust and cooperative learning in this relationship. A survey was conducted in Taiwan to test preschool teachers’ attitudes toward career commitment and other related factors. The questionnaire consisted of four latent factors: caring climate, career commitment, interpersonal trust and cooperative learning. We used partial least squares to analyze the sample data and examine the reliability and validity in the multiple mediation model. The results of the multiple mediating analysis indicated that interpersonal trust and cooperative learning fully positively mediated the association between caring climate and career commitment. Preschool teachers’ career commitment is influenced by their perceptions of caring climate in workplaces. Their positive attitudes toward kind interactions and teamwork with colleagues in preschools actively support sustainable development of their career paths. © 2024 TACTYC.

In recent years, the Internet Celebrities (ICs) have emerged as the most influential factor on adolescents. Although ICs are simply other users uploading their user-generated content (UGC), they attract followers through their unique combination of similarity, sociability, and a sense of being different from the audience. While ICs were widely discussed in fields like marketing and youth culture, few researches studied their education value. Our study utilize Uses and Gratifications Theory to extract students’ perceptive motivation to learn from ICs’ videos. We surveyed 101 high school students about their motivations to use ICs’ video to learn enterprise finance. These students considered Entertainment, Convenience, and Information were major gratifications they would get by learning from ICs’ videos. We also found past experience with ICs’ videos did influence student’s perceptive Escapism gratification. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Engineering design ability is critical in today’s society due to the vast development of technology. However, the development of it is not easy. The introduction of STEM (Science-technology-Engineering-Math) and the utilization of PBL (Project-based Learning) seem to promise a bright future in the development of such ability. We adopted Atman’s Engineering Design Process to evaluate the progress that students made after learning from a project-based Truss Tower STEM course. Students were grouped in six to design and construct a light-weight water tower type truss structure that can withstand severe earthquake. 137 students participated in this course and took pre-test as well as post-test. Students demonstrated significant progress in Developing Alternative Solutions and Project Realization. However, students did not show significant progress in Problem Scoping. Our research result echoes earlier research that some of engineering abilities might be trainable in classroom while other abilities might need other development methods. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The purpose of the study was to explore the direct effects of vocational students’ study stress and social support on physical and mental health as well as to evaluate the moderating role of social support between study stress and physical and mental health. Data was collected from 232 vocational Data Processing department students in Taiwan and was analyzed using hierarchical regression. The results show that vocational students’ study stress had a negative effect on physical and mental health, and parental support had positive influences on physical and mental health. In addition to the direct effect, partial support for teachers’ support can reduce the negative impact of academic stress on physical health. Partial support for classmate support can reduce the negative impact of academic stress on mental and physical health. Through these empirical findings, practical implications and suggestions for further research were discussed. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

The need for African-specific microbiome reference genomes is critical as their absence limits research in health, agriculture, and sustainability. Current global guidelines often do not take into account the region's unique needs. This commentary advocates for Africa-focused microbiome initiatives and community-driven genome projects to better reflect the continent's ecological and demographic diversity, leading to more applicable outcomes.

Soft System Methodology as a Tool to Understand Issues of Governmental Affordable Housing Programme of India: A Case Study Approach

With the help of a case study, the article has explored current practices of implementation of governmental affordable housing programme for urban poor in a slum of India. This work shows that the issues associated with the problems of governmental affordable housing programme has to be addressed to with a suitable methodology as complexities are not only dealing with quantitative data but qualitative data also. The Hard System Methodologies (HSM), which is conventionally applied to address the issues, deals with real and known problems which can be directly solved. Since most of the issues of affordable housing programme as found in the case study are subjective and complex in nature, Soft System Methodology (SSM) has been tried for better representation from subjective points of views. The article explored drawing of Rich Picture as an SSM approach for better understanding and analysing complex issues and constraints of affordable housing programme so that further exploration of the issues is possible. © 2016, The Institution of Engineers (India).
