In recent years, the transmission rate of mobile network becomes insufficient to serve numerous mobile users. Relay technique has been proposed to improve the data rate of mobile networks for many years. In the paper, the planning problem of heterogeneous cellular network is defined and limited in two-hop relaying. The defined problem aims to tackle with three objective functions at the same time. A meta-heuristic planning algorithm is proposed based on Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm. The proposed ACO-based algorithm optimizes the placement results of macrocells, microcells and femtocells. In the simulation-based result and analysis, the ACO-based algorithm yields the higher capacity and more covered users with the lowest construction cost compared to the two heuristic algorithms, i.e., Top-Down and Bottom-Up algorithms. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.

The use of questionnaires is an efficient and inexpensive method to measure user experience. Existing user-experience questionnaires developed based on Western populations and *** that cultural differences can influence judgments and the experience of products, questionnaires on user experiences based on Western cultures are not necessarily universal. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a Taiwanese User-Experience Questionnaire (TUEQ) with semantic differential techniques to understand the experience of Taiwanese users in relation to interactive digital products. A 23-item TUEQ was constructed in this study. The TUEQ identifies four main dimensions contributing to the experience of Taiwanese users: pragmatic quality, general hedonic quality, contemporary hedonic quality, and unique hedonic quality. The practical implications of the TUEQ and further study needed for a satisfactory level of reliability and construct validity are discussed. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2017.

This paper describes the variables of job characteristics, work commitments and job satisfaction. We studied 400 Thai employees in Taiwan. AB people are moderators, and that Type A people are easily irritated, highly competitive, and are always in a hurry. Job characteristics do not affect job satisfaction, but work commitments affect job satisfaction.

Effects of voice assistant creation using different learning approaches on performance of computational thinking

Designing artificial intelligence (AI) artefact learning has gone beyond command-line-based instruction, to include a low-barrier threshold with block-based programming. Such instructional design must not solely emphasise AI workings. Rather, it must offer students computational thinking (CT) practice to support their AI-related artefact creation while reducing their AI anxiety about future job replacement or sociotechnical blindness. In this study, this research explored an experiential learning approach to improve CT along with AI application capabilities when engaging undergraduate students in creating a voice assistant application (VA app). A total of 56 students participated in the study. The control group (CG) of 26 students used a conventional subject-based learning method, while the experimental group (EG) of 30 students adopted an experiential learning method. This study aimed to examine the differences in the learning achievement of CT and AI concept, as well as the perspectives of AI anxiety, and CT;in the meanwhile, this study analysed the students' learning behaviours using sequential behavioural analysis to discuss the learning process. Results showed that the CT ability of the EG was better than that of the CG, although no significant difference was found between the two groups’ AI concepts and anxiety. The behaviour analysis also revealed that the EG students were willing to ask more questions, and conducted their VA evaluation, whereas the CG students were inclined to focus on the input and output of knowledge, and replicated what the teacher presented. Suggestions and implications are given for future research. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

The Value Chain of Education Metaverse

Since the end of 2021, the Metaverse has been booming. Many unknown possibilities are gradually being realized, but many people only determined that they use Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) in the Metaverse. It is even considered that as long as the above realities (VR, AR, MR) are used, it is equal to the Metaverse. However, this is not true, for Reality-based display tools are only one of the presentation methods of the Metaverse. If we cannot return to the three main characteristics of the Metaverse: "digital avatars," a decentralized "consensus value system," and "Immersive experience," the practice and imagination of the Metaverse will become very narrow. Since 2022, the concept of Metaverse has also been widely used in classroom teaching to integrate into teaching activities. Therefore, to prevent teachers and students from understanding the Metaverse not only in the "Using VR, AR, MR is equivalent to Metaverse" but also pay more attention to the other two characteristics of the Metaverse: "digital avatars" and a decentralized "consensus value system.". © 2022, CC BY.

Mechatronics is a interdisciplinary integrated course that covers the related knowledge of STEM among the subjects. Through the performance curriculum, it enables the student to know how to apply the knowledge of STEM on the work and solve the problems that they meet. Besides solving the problem, the design of the work also has to meet the needs of the users. Design thinking is a mode that centers on humans. We hope that through the integration of the strategy, the student will not just acquire the understanding and the application of the concept and the use of the tool, producing for no reason. Rather, they should start with the need to produce the work that meets the need. The study is a quasi-experimental design that is based on the unit of Mechatronics in high school sophomore's living technology class. It guides the student to use Arduino, LED, infrared sensor, buzzer, 3D printed automatic sensor light. The objects of the experiment are the high school sophomores in a high school in Taoyuan, Taiwan, and they have never learned design thinking mode and the related curriculums of STEM integration. The number of the participated people of the experimental group is 118, and the number of the control group is 96, with 3 to 4 people as a group. The curriculum totally runs for 4 weeks, and there are two classes (100 minutes) in a week. Before the curriculum starts, we do the pre-test of the achievement. The score of the work adopts the evaluation standard criteria, Creative Product Assessment Matrix(CpAm), which is evaluated together by the researchers and the cooperating teachers. Furthermore, we do the post-test of the achievement in the end of the curriculum, and the experimental group and the control group are both taught by the same teacher. The experimental group adopts the strategy of “Design thinking mode merges with STEM activity” to conduct the instruction, and the control group adopts “traditional practical activity”. Over the past few years, digital fabrication has been utilized in technology laboratories to emphasize hands-on learning processes in technology and engineering education. Recent studies indicate that hands-on activities can help students connect with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines and develop key skills required in the 21st century. However, some argue that introducing 3D printing technology in schools could reduce pragmatic engagement and cause affective loss of hands-on interests. To explore the use of 3D printing machines in technology and engineering education, this research developed a STEM-based vibration isolator activity using a 3D printer and repetitive modeling. A nonequivalent control group design was employed in this research, and 192 Taiwanese high school students participated in this study. The conclusions are: (1) repetitive modeling in the STEM-based design activity enhanced student imagination;(2) repetitive modeling was effective in developing high school students’ interest in technology and engineering careers;and (3) repetitive modeling, engineering design, and “conceiving imagination” were significant predictors of the students’ final products. These results suggest a benefit to high school technology education of using 3D printers in a STEM-based vibration isolator design activity with repetitive modeling. © 2021 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Mindsets of suicide trajectories: An Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count analysis of suicide hotline conversations

Objective: The aim of the study was to explore the psychological characteristics of the individuals with various suicide risks using computerized text analysis, in the hopes of a better understanding of suicide trajectories. Methods: 627 first-time callers' records were randomly selected from Taiwan An-Shin Hotline database between 2013 and 2018. The voice records were evaluated by two psychologists to determine the levels of suicide risk (156 with uncertainty of risk, 177 with low suicidal ideation, 157 with high suicidal ideation, and 137 with suicide preparation/attempt) and transcribed into text. The Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count 2015 (LIWC2015) program combined with Chinese dictionary were then used to calculate the frequency of word categories. Results: Exploratory factor analysis identified four mindsets of language characteristics, named “opposition and questioning”, “active engagement”, “negative rumination”, and “focus on death”. Psychological descriptions of the mindsets were also obtained through correlation analysis with the LIWC2015 categories and indicators. The four mindsets effectively distinguished the callers with different levels of suicide risk. Conclusion: The psychological characteristics of people with various suicide risks can be described and differentiated via the closed-word categories and composite indicators. These results provide useful information for practitioners and researchers. © 2024 American Association of Suicidology.
