The present study provides a detailed investigation of the neck-configuration and Q-values on the cluster decay of proton-rich even-even 124-128Ba isotopes using the relativistic mean-field (RMF) formalism with the NL3* parameter set. The densities of the interacting nuclei from the RMF approach are folded with the R3Y and M3Y interactions to obtain the nuclear potential via the double-folding technique. The preformed cluster model (PCM) based on the quantum mechanical fragmentation theory is employed for the calculation of the decay half-lives. The preformation probability P0 and the penetration probabilities are estimated by the phenomenological scaling factor of Blendowske & Walliser and the WKB approximation respectively. The present investigation reveals that the M3Y and R3Y are associated with different barrier characteristics which are significantly modified with a little variation in the neck-length parameter ΔR. From the Q-value analysis, we have demonstrated that α-decay may not be a favourable decay mode for proton-rich barium isotopes with A > 122. © The Electrochemical Society

Background and hypothesis Inflammation plays a crucial role in pathological mechanisms in schizophrenia (SZ) and the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), but the impact of dual inflammation on SZs’ clinical outcomes is poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate whether dual inflammation impacts acute phase outcomes in patients with schizophrenia comorbid with COVID-19 (COVID-SZs). Study design A total of 114 SZs and 49 COVID-SZs were recruited for this study. Plasma samples were collected and analyzed for levels of routine blood and inflammatory cytokines from all the participants. Then clinical symptoms, cognitive performance, and functional assessments were conducted at recruitment. One-way analysis of covariance examined the differences in inflammatory cytokines and correlation analyses examined the relationship between inflammatory cytokines and clinical outcomes. Study results After controlling for age, gender, substance use status, and antipsychotic medications, levels of inflammatory cytokines increased in COVID-SZs groups compared to SZs groups. There were significantly higher total Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) scores and positive PANSS scores in COVID-SZs groups compared to SZs. As for cognitive performance, the COVID-SZs group had significantly worse performance in processing speed and attention than the SZs. The COVID-SZs group had significantly worse health status compared to the SZs. There were significantly different correlation patterns between the severity of psychiatric symptoms and inflammatory cytokines in COVID-SZs and SZs group. Conclusions Findings indicate that dual inflammation exacerbates the acute phase clinical outcome of COVID-SZs. Suggesting a combined anti-inflammatory drug or the use of potentially anti-inflammatory antipsychotics in the acute phase of treatment to mitigate central nervous system damage. Regular monitoring of inflammatory marker levels can help reduce the risk of fluctuating psychiatric symptoms

Many scholars and activists are interested in the potential for school-based childhood nutrition programs to positively impact the U.S. agri-food system. This paper explores efforts of a national K-12 school food collaborative to procure more sustainably grown and healthful food products. After a review of literature on transaction cost theory and school food procurement, the paper examines the potential of strategic partnerships in a value chain framework to meet procurement change goals. Results from a qualitative study of two participating school districts suggest that partnerships can offer potential solutions to recurring procurement barriers found in previous research.

The massive increase in the number of males suffering from bladder cancer is becoming a social concern and a huge challenge to human health issues. Herein, the preparation of chitosan/dialdehyde sodium alginate/magnetic dopamine hydrogels, the characterization of the product structure and the drug delivery performance of the drug delivery material were studied. The wall-adhered hydrogel materials were prepared by grafting, cross-linking and compounding and showed the exceptional targeted drug delivery and controlled release. Moreover, the effect of the amount of dopamine on the performance of drug loaded hydrogel was investigated. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) showed that there was an obvious absorption peak at 1530 cm-1, indicating that dopamine was crosslinked with chitosan/sodium dialdehyde alginate by C=N bond. Besides, SEM showed that constructed hydrogels had a three-dimensional porous interconnection construction. In conclusion, the drug delivery materials exhibited high organ inner wall adhesion, hydrogel properties, targeting ability, antibacterial and bacteriostatic ability (98%), biocompatibility (99%), etc. Due to these excellent properties, the constructed targeted hydrogels have great potential applications in drug delivery and tumor therapy. © 2023, The Authors. Research Motivation and Objective Article 158 of the Constitution and the J.Y. Interpretation No. 450 (1998) of the University Act interpreted various freedom of teaching and university self-government principles. The Constitution and University Act allow universities to independently decide whether to offer physical education (PE) courses. PE courses must be offered in accordance with relevant laws. A decline in birth rates, university enrollment, university autonomy, and zero-credit courses have led to a reduction in compulsory PE courses. Martins et al. (2020) investigated PE in 54 countries and found that older students are less likely to engage in regular physical activity than younger students, highlighting the importance of maintaining exercise through the implementation of school-based PE courses. The present study examined the current situation and trends in the numbers of PE teachers in colleges in Taiwan following the introduction of Article No. 450. Additionally, laws, regulations, and systems were analyzed and relevant data was compiled to gain insights into trends in college-based PE courses. Literature Review The United States was the first country to include PE courses as a graduation requirement in higher education. In 1861, Amherst College began to require students to take PE courses during each year of enrollment, and several universities began to offer PE courses (Cardinal et al., 2012). By the late 1920s and early 1930s, approximately 97% of colleges and universities had PE as a requirement for graduation, and by the 1960s, 84% to 87% of schools included PE as a required course (Lumpkin & Jenkins, 1993). However, over the past three decades, in U.S. higher education, the percentage of schools that require completion of PE as a graduation requirement has declined (Hensley, 2000), and the percentage was as low as 39.55% in 2010 (Cardinal et al., 2012). This cross-cultural study examines the relationship between perceived COVID-19 changes due to the impacts on everyday life by the pandemic with social exclusion and across 32 cultures and their levels in collectivism. With data from the start of the first outbreak from March 2020 to June 2020 (N = 9245), multilevel analysis indicated that as individuals perceive greater daily life changes induced by the pandemic, they experience heightened levels of social exclusion, with this association being particularly pronounced in less collectivistic cultures. These findings underscore the importance of considering cultural context in understanding responses to crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, with implications for culturally sensitive interventions aimed at promoting social inclusion across diverse cultural contexts. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

heart disease is a prevalent cause of mortality worldwide, and the ability to identify and prevent this ailment at an early stage is crucial for enhancing patient outcomes. Recently, researchers have focused on utilizing Machine-Learning (ML) techniques to predict risk factors and the occurrence of heart disease. This study aims to identify the optimal parameters for accurately predicting the occurrence of heart disease through the fine-tuning of ML models' parameters. This study incorporated a blend of datasets from Cleveland, Hungary, Switzerland, and Long Beach V, which consisted of patients' medical histories and laboratory test outcomes. The collected data were employed to predict the occurrence of heart disease through diverse ML algorithms, such as KNN, decision tree, and SVM. Bayesian optimization was also utilized to fine-tune the hyperparameters of the ML algorithms for heart disease prediction. The findings demonstrated that the ML models achieved high accuracy in predicting the occurrence of heart disease, with the optimized KNN model achieving the highest accuracy rate of 100%.

Candlestick pattern recognition is a widely adopted technique in financial trading, leveraging visual patterns to analyze price movements. Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have exhibited remarkable accuracy in this domain. However, the increasing demand for transparency and explainability in CNN-based models raises concerns regarding their applicability in trading decision-making. This paper addresses these concerns by presenting a framework that enhances the explainability of CNN-based candlestick pattern recognition models. Our approach introduces an innovative data augmentation method to generate training aid samples, facilitating the model’s learning process within human domains. By incorporating this framework, traders gain valuable insights into the decision-making process, comprehending the rationale behind the model’s predictions. Our proposed approach exposes the inherent “black box” nature of CNN-based models, improving their interpretability and empowering traders to make well-informed decisions based on transparent and understandable insights. This advancement holds significant potential for enhancing decision-making processes in financial trading and fostering trust among traders.

The eastern Agadir (Morocco) was selected for the urban expansion. However, it faces challenges owing to its location within an alluvial basin of weak and heterogeneous sediments, compounded by the scarcity of geotechnical data. This study aimed to create the first geotechnical zoning map of the area to support informed urban planning. Geophysical surveys were employed with available in situ investigations to address this data gap and delineate and characterize the main geotechnical zones. The electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) method was used to map the soil distribution horizontally and vertically, complemented by laboratory tests. The multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) and seismic refraction tomography (SRT) methods provided insights into important geotechnical and elastic-dynamic parameters. This analysis revealed three distinct geoseismic layers. The surface layer consisted of sand, silt, pebble, weathered limestone, and marlstone, whereas the underlying layer contained compacted silt, dense sand, conglomerate, sandstone, limestone, and marlstone. This layer exhibited higher seismic velocities and lower soil heterogeneity than the surface layer. The third layer, characterized by limestone, marlstone, and compacted deposits, serves as geotechnical bedrock. The V_S30 velocities were calculated and classified according to the EUROCODE 8 scheme, which categorizes sites based on their geological characteristics and associated seismic risks. The study area was divided into Class A (rock), Class B (dense soil and soft rock), and Class C (medium dense sand and gravel). This classification is essential for assessing seismic response and designing earthquake-resistant structures. The majority of the sites were categorized as Class B. The final zoning map reveals five distinct geotechnical zones: Tagragra's Dome, the alluvial fans and floodplain, the alluvial terrace, the limestone plateau, and the sand dune zone. The specification and distributed control of discrete event robotic manufacturing systems using Petri nets are considered, and a methodology of decomposition and coordination is presented for hierarchical and distributed control. First, a task specification is defined as a Petri net model at the conceptual level, and then transformed to the detailed Petri net representation of the subtasks. Finally, the overall Petri net is decomposed and the constituent subnets are assigned to local Petri net based controllers. The controllers are coordinated by the coordinator so that the decomposed transitions fire at the same time. System coordination algorithm through communication between the coordinator and the controllers, is presented. By the proposed method, modeling, simulation and control of large and complex manufacturing systems can be performed consistently using Petri nets.
