The fusion dynamics of 16O + 154Sm and 18O+148Nd reactions has been investigated to observe the effect of shape degree of freedom on the fusion cross-section using the coupled channel (CC) calculations. The one dimentional barrier penetration model (1-D BPM) is observed to underestimate the experimental data mainly at below barrier energies. The coupled channel calculations including target projectile excitations with 1 phonon of vibrational state and 2+ rotational state of target reproduce the experimental fusion cross-section for 16O + 154Sm reaction at below barrier energies while show some discrepancy for 18O+148Nd reaction. This discrepancy for 18O+148Nd reaction can be addressed with the inclusion of low-lying states with neutron transfer channels and the neck-formation. © The Electrochemical Society

The PROMIS Project is an ongoing EU Tempus Project for setting up ISC (Informatics as a Second Competence) Master's degrees in Central Asia. We are more specifically concerned with ensuring the vocational aspect of studies and tightening the relationships between companies and universities in this project. To meet these goals we mainly propose to base the curricula organization on both reverse teaching and apprenticeship. As we also want the degrees to be part of an international network many tasks of the project are dedicated to sharing and discussing pedagogical materials and methods between European and Central Asia partners. This paper contains a general presentation of the PROMIS Project and a focus on the organization of pedagogical workshops that are its most important pedagogy sharing task.

This study aimed to discuss the relationship between innovative concepts of training quality and organizational commitment for Taiwan's industry management. Questionnaire survey was conducted on manufacturers in Taiwan that participated in the project of the Vocational Training Council. A total of 1000 questionnaires were distributed to directors, general employees, and human resource personnel in 100 industrial companies; and 66 valid samples from directors, 382 from general employees, and 123 from human resource personnel were returned, totally 571 valid samples. The data were analyzed by the structure equation modeling (SEM). Based on the results, the following conclusions are made: (1) an organizational scale of background variables has a significant effect on training quality, (2) different background variables have no significant effect on organizational commitment, and (3) training quality is significantly correlated to organizational commitment. The research results on innovation indicated that focus on training quality control is conducive to benefits of organizational commitment, and has a positive effect on organizational development.

After decades of neglect, a growing number of scholars have turned their attention to issues of crime and criminal justice in the rural context. Despite this improvement, rural crime research is underdeveloped theoretically, and is little informed by critical criminological perspectives. In this article, we introduce the broad tenets of a multi-level theory that links social and economic change to the reinforcement of rural patriarchy and male peer support, and in turn, how they are linked to separation/divorce sexual assault. We begin by addressing a series of misconceptions about what is rural, rural homogeneity and commonly held presumptions about the relationship of rurality, collective efficacy (and related concepts) and crime. We conclude by recommending more focused research, both qualitative and quantitative, to uncover specific link between the rural transformation and violence against women. © 2007 Springer Science + Business Media B.V.

This case study of an online graduate course determines the message characteristics of the instructor, volunteer teaching assistants, and students in online discussions, and proposes a mentoring, coaching, and facilitating model for online discussions. The researchers developed a coding system based on the literature of mentoring, coaching, and facilitating to identify the characteristics of conference discussion messages. The instructor fostered the development of volunteer teaching assistants into coaches and of student discussion facilitators into facilitators of learning. The proposed constructivist model fosters active learning, provides scaffolding for students to become facilitators of learning, and suggests creative ways for online instructors to manage different types of teaching responsibilities. Pathogenic variants in the neuronal Na/K ATPase transmembrane ion transporter (ATP1A3) cause a spectrum of neurological disorders including alternating hemiplegia of childhood (AHC). The most common de novo pathogenic variants in AHC are p.D801N (~40 % of patients) and p.E815K (~25 % of patients), which lead to early mortality by spontaneous death in mice. Nevertheless, knowledge of the development of clinically relevant neurological phenotypes without the obstacle of premature death, is critical for the identification of pathophysiological mechanisms and ultimately, for the testing of therapeutic strategies in disease models. Here, we used hybrid vigor attempting to mitigate the fragility of AHC mice and then performed behavioral, electrophysiological, biochemical, and molecular testing to comparatively analyze mice that carry either of the two most common AHC patient observed variants in the Atp1a3 gene. Collectively, our data reveal the presence but also the differential impact of the p.D801N and p.E815K variants on disease relevant alterations such as spontaneous and stress-induced paroxysmal episodes, motor function, behavioral and neurophysiological activity, and neuroinflammation. Our alternate AHC mouse models with their phenotypic deficits open novel avenues for the investigation of disease biology and therapeutic testing for ATP1A3 research.

The role of fines in liquefaction susceptibility of sand matrix soils

More and more empirical evidences had revealed the growing importance on the effects of fine grained soils towards liquefaction susceptibility of sand matrix soils. Although earlier researches were sorely basing on presumptions that clean sand has dominant effect on liquefaction behaviour while effect of fines is negligible, this is found to be incorrect. The basic compositional characteristics of fines and its corresponding plasticity behaviour are the main contributors in altering soil liquefaction phenomenon. The research findings are identical yet inconsistent. This paper reviews the overall development on liquefaction susceptibility, both empirical evidences and laboratory discovery since 1960s. The intention by most researchers to group silts and clays under same heading of fine grained soils had also caused misleading interpretation. The aim of this paper is not to establish a harmonization among different studies but assist future researchers on clarification of discrepancies found in the literature. This paper also describes the role of fines in soil liquefaction phenomenon. It is believed that the findings in this paper not only summarize the current research breakthrough on soil liquefaction, but also providing new emphasis for future research trends. © 2013, EJGE.

Since usability is considered a significant success factor for Clinical decision support systems (CDSSs), this study seeks to assess the usability of an electronic medical records-embedded CDSS for arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation and ordering. The current study was conducted in the general ICU of a teaching hospital, using the System Usability Scale (SUS) and interviews with all anesthesiology residents and intensive care fellows in two rounds of CDSS usability testing. The feedback from the participants was discussed with the research team across a series of meetings, and the second version of CDSS was designed and tailored to participants' feedbacks. Subsequently, the CDSS usability score increased from 67.22±4.58 to 80.00±4.84 (P-value © 2023 The authors and IOS Press.

The effectiveness and studies of e-learning in Taiwan: A review and synthesis of 2000-2011 research literature

The purpose of this study was to review and synthesize the research literature on e-learning in Taiwan. In total, 86 journal articles and theses/dissertations, which quasi-experimental research methods were utilized in and included in three major domestic and international electronic databases between the years 2000-2011, were selected for review and synthesis. The purest synthesis method of synthesizing multiple areas with single method was employed to investigate the research literature. It is found that the quasi-experimental research studies and the effectiveness of e-learning in 2000-2011 in Taiwan are as follows: (1) Learning areas or subjects focus on formal sciences;(2) The researches are mainly done in the university/colleges primarily preparing school teachers;(3) The main subjects in descending order of frequency selected by studies are elementary school students, junior high school students, and senior/vocational high school students;(4) The most experimental teaching durations are between 101 and 300 minutes;(5) Motivation, learning environment, and technological capability are the three issues mostly concerned about;(6) Learning effectiveness are mainly argued from the two starting viewpoints, learning or technology;(7) Teaching theory focus on Piaget and Vygotsky perspectives of cognitive construction;and (8) The learning domains in descending order of instructional effectiveness investigation are cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains.
