This study used interactive e-book in English instruction and explored its benefits as well as negatives of 9th grader students' learning achievements in the English blank-filling cloze test. A questionnaire is used to investigate students' "perceived usefulness" and "perceived ease of use" toward using the interactive e-book in learning English. To find out the effects of using interactive E-book on English blank-filling cloze test, a four-lesson experiment was conducted in the English course in a junior high school. The experimental results show that although the students using interactive e-book did not outperform the ones receiving conventional instruction in learning English, the statistical feedbacks in terms of "perceived usefulness" and "perceived ease of use" on the questionnaire showed that the students highly appreciated and accepted the interactive e-book learning activity.

The study aims to explore whether different amount of the first language (Chinese) information will lead to different effectiveness on high school students' listening comprehension and vocabulary recall. Furthermore, the study also discusses the relationship between different difficult degrees of videos with two kinds given amount of subtitles/captions and students' learning performance in English listening comprehension and vocabulary recall. One class was given the full first language subtitled movie with no foreign language captions while the other class was given the partial first language subtitled movie with full foreign language captions. The findings indicated that although the students received only the assistant of the partial first language subtitles, learners' understanding of the listening comprehension will not be affected and their performance in the vocabulary recall test statistically better than those who use the full first language.

The Malaysian aviation industry has continued to march forward. With a turnover of RM23.7 billion in 2013, it is expected to grow higher especially after the Malaysian national aerospace blueprint was launched in 2015. The aviation related organizations currently have a workforce of approximately 13500. These organizations need to be managed by competent managers who have a strong background of technologist. Aviation technologist is one of the key components in the aviation maintenance industry as they are the future managers charged with the responsibility to ensure continuation of the organization's objectives and culture. The technologist role and manager's role are somehow different. The promotion of technologist to managerial roles is quite common but whether the technologist is able to take up managerial role effectively is yet to be fully understood. It is quite common that there was insufficient training for the technologist before being promoted to take up management roles. The purpose of this paper is to give an overview of the role of technologists and managers in professional services industries such as MRO and to understand that there is a need within the industry to re-look into the perspective of a proper training to prepare them to take up management roles effectively.

Defining HR Roles of Nursing Line Manager in Workplace Learning

In this paper, HR roles of nursing line manager towards effective workplace learning in Malaysia are discussed. Numerous researches had examined the devolving of the HR roles in various perspectives and general roles of line managers in nursing. However, less study has been paid specific to the HR roles of nursing line manager towards effective workplace learning, especially in the context of Malaysian public hospitals. This paper argues that line managers play a vital role in the development of their employees. In Malaysian healthcare services, where Malaysian nursing shortage is critical, it is essential that nursing line managers play pertinent roles in the development of their nurses learning. In this paper, the researchers integrate HR Business Partnership Model by Conner and Ulrich into HR roles of nursing line managers in Malaysian public hospitals. In particular, this paper attempts to explore the level of nursing line managers’ involvement in HR roles in relation to strategic partner, change agent, administrative expert, and employee champion roles. Several prepositions are highlighted and developed.

The Impact of Learning and development Initiatives on the Retention of Engineers in Malaysian Firms

The study sets out to explore the role of L&D (organizational and individual) factors within engineering firms, based on the social exchange theory, a popular framework about psychological contract and maintenance of the employee- employer relationship. Testing these concepts with Malaysian engineers and managers, the current research will explore the extent to which organizations provide effective learning and development initiatives that counter commitment by creating a sense of obligation through professional growth. The notion of psychological contract will be used to conceptualize engineers’ intention to stay and is seen as mediating the relationship between learning and development opportunities and engineers’ intention to stay. Ten (10) manufacturing companies will be invited to fill up the questionnaire. These questions offer the possibility for identifying L&D factors which will influence the retention of Malaysian's engineers, as well as the influence of psychological contract on this relationship. Based on these results, it would be possible to identify the challenges of employee retention and the mismatch between L&D professionals and retention strategies, with engineer's needs, wants, and expectations (psychological contract) in relation to their retention.

The establishment of coaching culture with the contribution of the involvement of line manager roles is important to development of employees. In organization, it is dynamic that employees must update their knowledge and skills to keep pace with the changing environment. This paper attempts to discuss the involvement of line manager roles towards creating a coaching culture who give their support and innovation towards motivating employees to give their best performance in achieving organization's goals.

Bed-ridden nursing home residents are in need of environments which are homelike and facilitate the provision of care. Design guidance for this group of older people is limited. This study concerned the exploration and generation of innovative environmental enrichment scenarios for bed-ridden residents. This exploration was conducted through a combination of participatory action research with user-centred design involving 56 professional stakeholders in interactive work sessions. This study identified numerous design solutions, both concepts and products that are available on the marketplace and that on a higher level relate to improvements in resident autonomy and the supply of technological items and architectural features. The methodology chosen can be used to explore the creative potential of stakeholders from the domain of healthcare in product innovation. © 2015 J. van Hoof et al.

The Behavior of Investor's-fear-gauge-index on Scheduled Macroeconomic Communications

This paper examines the information content of scheduled macroeconomic communication on the newly constructed implied volatility index (India VIX). In this study we have considered RBI's (Reserve Bank of India) monetary policy statement and some other macroeconomic indicators as communication dummies. Empirical results show that scheduled communications have prominent effect on the implied volatility index that surround the report days. The impact of RBI policy statement on expected volatility surround one day report release found to be more responsive. In compliance with the literature, study shows that implied volatility rises before the scheduled communication and goes normal on the day of news release. In addition, news on GDP (gross domestic product) and WPI (wholesale/producers price index) has significant impact on VIX surround the report days. The implication of the study is in twofold: it is helpful in the volatility forecasting and options pricing.
