The purpose of the study reported here was to explore cross-cultural training programs and expatriate adjustment effectiveness that increase effective cross-cultural interaction. Effective cross-cultural training increases trainees' knowledge, encourages them to see the personal and organizational benefits of cultural diversity and cross-cultural competence, and increases their skill and capacity to work with cultural diversity. Cross-cultural training is an effective strategy in the achievement of organizational performance targets and multicultural policy objectives. Addressing the identified limitations of current practice in CCT will increase its contribution to the development and enhancement of organizational and individual cultural competence. Moreover, developing cross-cultural training programs could add value to the firm and its people. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2012.

Technical education mainly focuses on the development of students' motor skills. At vocational educational schools in Taiwan, technical teachers usually teach skills in a big class. Therefore, those teachers always face the problems of not realizing students' learning process and difficulties;the evaluation is also deficient in credibility and validity. The learners' self-reflection can help teachers understand their learning process. In this study, the researchers analyze the objectives, strategies and introspection emphasis in the skill-training stages and provide recommendations for students to reflect in each phase. Then the researchers apply these recommendations as the basis of introspection to build a Web-based learning portfolio (WBLP) for skill training. The results of this study reveal that the Moodle platform conforms to the requirements of building a Web-based self-reflective learning portfolio for technical training purpose. Besides, this paper has mapped out the Moodle Modules that provide the self-reflection features for a technical-training WBLP. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2012.

Internal control plays a pivotal role in enhancing security operations and quality control in an organization. From the perspective of management, internal auditors work for ensuring effective operations and improving performance for all the management systems within the organization. They bear great responsibility and play a key role. This study aimed to explore the internal audit staff demographic variables of personality traits differences. This research selected samples of the internal auditors from domestic companies, i.e. members of the Institute of Internal Auditors, in Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. A total of 567 questionnaires are issued and the number of valid questionnaires is 272. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2012.

This study evaluated the learning motivations of the foreign language oral interaction course integrating Computer-Mediated Communication and Native-Speaker peer-tutoring strategies based on the assessment results of ARCS motivation design. The study found that no matter the students used the reflection strategy or not after the class, they will have confidence in the oral peer-tutoring activities when the students do concept mapping activities every time before they conducted the oral peer-tutoring activity via CMC platform. However, if the students did not used the concept mapping strategy, the students could use the reflection strategy in the post-activity had higher confidence than the students who did not used the reflection strategy when they reviewed after the class. Conversely, the study found thatno matter the students used concept mapping strategy or not before the class, they will have confidence in the oral peer-tutoring activities when the students do reflection activities every time they end the oral peer-tutoring. However, if the students did not used reflection strategy, the students using concept mapping strategy in pre-study had higher confidence than the students who did not used concept mapping strategy when they prepared before the class.

Iron has been increasingly studied over the past decade as a potential material for biodegradable bone implants due to its favorable mechanical strength and degradability. However, its slow corrosion rate in both in vitro and in vivo environments poses a challenge to its use as a temporary medical implant. In this study, the effects of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) addition on the corrosion behavior of an Fe matrix were assessed in two different solutions: phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and protein-containing cell culture medium (RPMI-Pro). The results indicate a significant difference in the corrosion rate and behavior of Fe-rGO composites, with notably faster degradation observed in RPMI-Pro. Electrochemical and immersion tests revealed that rGO enhances the in vitro corrosion of Fe scaffolds, primarily due to its high surface area and favorable electrical conductivity, which accelerate redox reactions within the scaffolds. The Fe-0.5rGO sample immersed in RPMI-Pro exhibited a higher corrosion rate, as the adsorbed fetal bovine serum (FBS) proteins facilitated Fe dissolution by complexing with Fe ions, thereby preventing the formation of a low-solubility, dense Fe-based oxide passive layer. © 2025, The Authors. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to highlight the main factors that affect the management of the WGs' Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in Kakamega District and Africa in general. Design/methodology/approach: The study adopted a descriptive research design. This is because the study was concerned about a univariate question in which the researchers asked about the size, form distribution and existence of factors affecting management of the Women Groups' (WGs) MSEs. The study created a profile on variables affecting WGs' MSEs through collection of data and the tabulation of the frequencies on the research variables and their interaction. Systematic random sampling was used to select the sample. This technique resulted in a sample size of 310 respondents distributed as follows: 95 WGs leaders;143 group and community members;and 72 donor, government and non-governmental agents. Findings: The study found that the factors that affect management of WGs' MSEs could be categorised as financial, administrative, managerial, technical, political, traditional and cultural. The WGs lack skills in these areas, which adversely affects the MSEs. The study then calls for full support of WGs' MSEs by all those involved in one way or another, remembering that "for women, a common theme cuts across the struggles ... whether at independence, liberation movement, the New International Economic Order, or development, women have learned that the change, reforms and revolutions were not intended for them". Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to the data obtained through questionnaires and interviews which were descriptive and qualitative in nature. A study that uses both quantitative and qualitative data is recommended. Originality/value: The study is ground-breaking in terms of looking at the management of WGs' MSEs in Kenya. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

The increasing complexity of patient data and the need for reliable, transparent decision-making in healthcare drive the demand for advanced AI systems. This paper introduces a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) integrating Explainable AI (XAI) with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), designed to offer transparent, real-time, and evidence-based recommendations. HIPAA-compliant and grounded in historical case studies, the system facilitates trustworthy decision-making in high-pressure environments for nursing assistants. Although preliminary, simulations indicate the system's potential to reduce cognitive load and enhance decision accuracy, with future clinical trials planned for comprehensive validation. It ensures HIPAA compliance while utilizing real-time patient data and historical case studies to support transparent and reliable clinical decisions. The system provides real-time, mobile-friendly recommendations based on predictive analytics and case-based reasoning, ensuring that nursing assistants can make informed, transparent decisions even in high-pressure scenarios. Future work will validate the system through simulations and clinical trials to assess its impact on decision accuracy and cognitive load reduction. Designed specifically for nursing assistants, the system provides real-time, explainable recommendations and retrieves relevant historical cases and clinical guidelines to support decision-making. While this work is preliminary and has not been deployed in clinical settings, theoretical analysis suggests that the system has the potential to improve decision accuracy and reduce cognitive load. A roadmap for future validation and clinical trials is outlined to demonstrate how the proposed system can be integrated into healthcare workflows. © 2024 IEEE.

The purpose of this study were to discuss diversity mentoring and organization's influence. The case study is a high technology company in Taiwan. There are 11 employees interviewed, and come out the conclusions as: diversity mentoring from organizational development, has faced the multiple hardships but still insisted on keeping conducting, influence on the organization and employees from the mentoring systems. We then further discuss the theoretical and managerial implications of our conclusions. © 2010 IEEE.

The present study intends to propose an interdisciplinary program that is based on integrative STEM approach and further to explore the development of engineering design in the program. The participants are 29 graduate and university students who take an optional course ‘Robotics’ in an university in Taiwan. Data collections include the groups’ research notes and interviews from selected groups. The result reveals that the participants could perform most of the engineering design practices, however, they have insufficient practices on the meta-cognitive dimensions. In addition, the factors that affect the participants’ engineering design are also revealed. Some suggestions that are beneficial in developing the engineering design are proposed in this study. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.
