The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among students' process of study, creative self-efficacy and creativity while attending college. A total of 60 students enrolled in Hsiuping Institute of technology in central Taiwan were selected as samples for the study. The instruments for this study included three questionnaires to explore the aforesaid aspects. This researchers tested creative self-efficacy and process of study, and creativity with Pearson correlation and hierarchical regression analyses. The major findings of this research are (1) the process of study had direct positive predictability on creativity, and (2) the relationship between process of study and creativity is partially mediated by creative self-efficacy.

The purpose of this naturalistic study was to investigate the effect of booster seat design on the choice of children's seating positions during naturalistic riding. Data was collected through observations of children during in-vehicle riding by means of a film camera. The children were positioned in high back boosters in the rear seat while a parent drove the car. The study included two different booster designs: one with large head and torso side supports, and one with small head side supports and no torso side supports. Six children between three and six years of age participated in the study. Each child was observed in both boosters. The duration of the seating positions that each child assumed was quantified. The design with large side head supports resulted more often in seating positions without head and shoulder contact with the booster's back. There was shoulder-to-booster back contact during an average of 45% of riding time in the seat with the large head side supports compared to 75% in the seat with the small head supports. The children in the study were seated with the head in front of the front edge of the head side supports more than half the time, in both boosters. Laterally, the children were almost constantly positioned between the side supports of the booster in both seats. The observed seating positions probably reduce the desired protective effect by the side supports in side impact, and may increase the probability of head impact with the vehicle interior in frontal impact.

This paper reports magnetic microrobots with rolling capability. A magnetic object subjected to an externally rotating magnetic field would be rotated due to the tendency of alignment between its internal magnetization and the field. Based on this principle, a magnetic microrobot in a spherical body with a diameter of several hundred microns was designed and fabricated. To remotely power and control the microrobot, a rotating magnet was used to generate a rotating magnetic field. Driven by this field, the microrobot can freely roll on three-dimensional surfaces. These surfaces can be in air, water or silicon oil. In a dry environment, a microrobot with a diameter of 440 mu m achieved a maximum linear speed of 13.2 mm s(-1).

Recently, most businesses have introduced a system for improving their responsibility to the customers in terms of job improvement. For example, small-quantity batch production increases cost but improve efficiency of management. Companies have been introduced the balanced scorecard to evaluate their management as part of improvement, while they suffer from many trials and errors. Many businesses still have difficulty in introducing balance scorecard concept in their process, but we suggest a method to successfully introduce the balance scorecard. This study aims to suggest a new performance measurement model reflecting relative importance of the key performance indicators for each factor. Our model is applied to several companies in real-world to validate the new model. Also, our study proposes a methodology for an adequate performance measurement using multiple attribute decision making.

The specification and distributed control of discrete event robotic manufacturing systems using Petri nets are considered, and a methodology of decomposition and coordination is presented for hierarchical and distributed control. First, a task specification is defined as a Petri net model at the conceptual level, and then transformed to the detailed Petri net representation of the subtasks. Finally, the overall Petri net is decomposed and the constituent subnets are assigned to local Petri net based controllers. The controllers are coordinated by the coordinator so that the decomposed transitions fire at the same time. System coordination algorithm through communication between the coordinator and the controllers, is presented. By the proposed method, modeling, simulation and control of large and complex manufacturing systems can be performed consistently using Petri nets.
