The next generation of water Cherenkov neutrino telescopes in the Mediterranean Sea are under construction offshore France (KM3NeT/ORCA) and Sicily (KM3NeT/ARCA). The KM3NeT/ORCA detector features an energy detection threshold which allows to collect atmospheric neutrinos to study flavour oscillation. This paper reports the KM3NeT/ORCA sensitivity to this phenomenon. The event reconstruction, selection and classification are described. The sensitivity to determine the neutrino mass ordering was evaluated and found to be 4.4σ if the true ordering is normal and 2.3σ if inverted, after three years of data taking. The precision to measure ∆m232 and θ23 were also estimated and found to be 85 · 10-6 eV2 and (+1.9/-3.4)° for normal neutrino mass ordering and, 75 · 10-6 eV2 and (+2.0/-7.0)° for inverted ordering. Finally, a unitarity test of the leptonic mixing matrix by measuring the rate of tau neutrinos is described. Nonlinear creep model for deep rock under high stress and high pore water pressure condition

Conventional triaxial compression creep experiments for deep sandstone under high confining pressure and high pore water pressure were carried out, in order to predict the creep response of deep rock under these conditions. A nonlinear viscoelastic-plastic creep constitutive model was proposed based on the experimental results. The theory of component model was used as a basis for the formulation of this model. First, by using mathematical fitting and analogy, a new nonlinear viscous component was introduced based on the properties of the creep curves during the tertiary stage. Second, a timer component to judge whether the creep can get into the tertiary stage was presented. Finally, a nonlinear creep model was proposed. Results showed good agreement between theory curves from the nonlinear creep model and experimental data. This model can be applied to predict deep rock creep responses under high stress and high pore water pressure conditions. Hence, the obtained conclusions in this study are beneficial to deep rock engineering. © 2016 Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Institute of technology.

The KM3NeT Collaboration is currently constructing a multi-site high-energy neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea consisting of matrices of pressure-resistant glass spheres, each holding a set of 31 small-area photomultipliers. The main goals of the telescope are the observation of neutrino sources in the Universe and the measurement of the neutrino oscillation parameters with atmospheric neutrinos. Both extraterrestrial and atmospheric neutrinos are detected through the Cherenkov light induced in seawater by charged particles produced in neutrino interactions in the surrounding medium. A relative time synchronization between photomultipliers of the order of 1 ns is needed to guarantee the required angular resolution of the detector. Due to the large detector volumes to be instrumented by KM3NeT, a cost reduction of the different systems is a priority. To this end, the inexpensive Nanobeacon has been designed and developed by the KM3NeT Collaboration to be used for detector time-calibration studies. At present, more than 600 Nanobeacons have been already produced. The characterization of the optical pulse and the wavelength emission profile of the devices are critical for the time calibration. Starburst galaxies (SBGs) and more in general starforming galaxies represent a class of galaxies with a high star formation rate (up to 100 M☉ /year). Despite their low luminosity, they can be considered as guaranteed "factories" of high energy neutrinos, being "reservoirs" of accelerated cosmic rays and hosting a high density target gas in the central region. In this contribution we present a novel multimessenger study of these sources and the possibility of observing their neutrino signals with the KM3NeT/ARCA telescope. The differential sensitivity for different SBG scenarios is reported considering track-like neutrino events in the 100 GeV-100 PeV energy range. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

KM3NeT/ORCA is a next-generation neutrino telescope optimised for atmospheric neutrino oscillations studies. In this paper, the sensitivity of ORCA to the presence of a light sterile neutrino in a 3+1 model is presented. After three years of data taking, ORCA will be able to probe the active-sterile mixing angles θ14, θ24, θ34 and the effective angle θµe, over a broad range of mass squared difference ∆m241 „ r10´5, 10s eV2, allowing to test the eV-mass sterile neutrino hypothesis as the origin of short baseline anomalies, as well as probing the hypothesis of a very light sterile neutrino, not yet constrained by cosmology. The KM3NeT research infrastructure is under construction in the Mediterranean Sea. KM3NeT will study atmospheric and astrophysical neutrinos with two multi-purpose neutrino detectors, ARCA and ORCA, primarily aimed at GeV–PeV neutrinos. Thanks to the multi-photomultiplier tube design of the digital optical modules, KM3NeT is capable of detecting the neutrino burst from a Galactic or near-Galactic core-collapse supernova. This potential is already exploitable with the first detection units deployed in the sea. This paper describes the real-time implementation of the supernova neutrino search, operating on the two KM3NeT detectors since the first months of 2019. A quasi-online astronomy analysis is introduced to study the time profile of the detected neutrinos for especially significant events. The mechanism of generation and distribution of alerts, as well as the integration into the SNEWS and SNEWS 2.0 global alert systems are described. The approach for the follow-up of external alerts with a search for a neutrino excess in the archival data is defined. White Rabbit (WR) is a technology born at CERN able to provide sub-nanosecond accuracy for time and frequency transfer using standard PTP and Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE). WR was designed to be the main time provider system for scientific infrastructures such as particle accelerators and colliders. This contribution proposes a change of approach for the WR PTP distribution to become a timing solution with strong focus on engineering frameworks, such as Smart Grid. This approach includes a new design following IEC 61850, where new developments make possible for WR devices to work as Transparent Clocks (TCs) instead of Boundary clocks (BCs) as in the case today. This maximizes the interoperability with other industrial devices and, at the same time, the utilization of TCs offers better synchronization results since PTP messages include the entire network delay considering all TCs as a unique fiber. Using TCs for time and data propagation also opens the doors to high-availability and fault tolerance features for mission-critical and time-sensitive applications. It supports the development of redundancy protocols, such as HSR or PRP to guarantee the delivery and reception of critical services such as timing and substation events (GOOSE, GSSE, SMV). Finally, P2P approach offers a better synchronization mechanism to avoid synchronization loss of middle nodes and also supports the development of redundancy protocols to make possible the migration of WR to industrial networks.

There have two effective ways to improve the overall efficiency of the object-based distributed storage system, one is network caching technology and the other is metadata server cluster load balancing strategy. Under the heterogeneous storage environments, object-based distributed file system face the key challenge of lacking caching mechanism for the high-frequency access files, metadata server load imbalance also reduce the overall efficiency. To address these challenges, we discuss the design and implementation of an object-based distributed file storage caching system, and propose a weight-based metadata server cluster load balancing strategy. It effectively improve the metadata processing capacity. Based on the results, it demonstrated the feasibility and the efficiency of our methods. © 2015 SERSC.

The OraCDP disaster recovery system uses CDP disaster recovery technology based on the combination of block level, combining with the communication coupling between the underlying I/O and Oracle database. The experimental results show that the OraCDP system can not only maintain the normal operation of the original system without any negative influence, but also guarantee the recovery of data and service at specific time quickly, fully and accurately. © 2015 SERSC.

Summary Bioinformatics applications frequently involve high-dimensional model building or classification problems that require reducing dimensionality to improve learning accuracy while irrelevant inputs are removed. Thus, feature selection has become an important issue on these applications. Moreover, several approaches for supervised and unsupervised feature selections as a multi-objective optimization problem have been recently proposed to cope with issues on performance evaluation of classifiers and models. As parallel processing constitutes an important tool to reach efficient approaches that make it possible to tackle complex problems within reasonable computing times, in this paper, alternatives for the cooperation of subpopulations in multi-objective evolutionary algorithms have been identified and classified, and several procedures have been implemented and evaluated on some synthetic and Brain-computer Interface datasets. The results show different improvements achieved in the solution quality and speedups, depending on the cooperation alternative and dataset. We show alternatives that even provide superlinear speedups with only small reductions in the solution quality, besides another cooperation alternative that improves the quality of the solutions with speedups similar to, or only slightly higher than, the speedup obtained by the parallel fitness evaluation in a master-worker implementation (the alternative used as reference that behaves as the corresponding sequential multi-objective approach). © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
