The OraCDP disaster recovery system uses CDP disaster recovery technology based on the combination of block level, combining with the communication coupling between the underlying I/O and Oracle database. The experimental results show that the OraCDP system can not only maintain the normal operation of the original system without any negative influence, but also guarantee the recovery of data and service at specific time quickly, fully and accurately. © 2015 SERSC.

This paper considers the minimax regret 1-sink location problem in dynamic path networks. In our model, a dynamic path network consists of an undirected path with positive edge lengths and uniform edge capacity, and each vertex supply which is nonnegative value is unknown but only the interval of supply is known. A particular assignment of supply to each vertex is called a scenario. Under any scenario, the cost of a sink location is defined as the minimum time to complete the evacuation for all supplies (evacuees), and the regret of a sink location x is defined as the cost of x minus the cost of the optimal sink location. Then, the problem is to find a point as a sink such that the maximum regret for all possible scenarios is minimized. We propose an O(nlog n) time algorithm for the minimax regret 1-sink location problem in dynamic path networks with uniform capacity, where n is the number of vertices in the network. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.

This work investigates the impact of non-periodic quantization step size variation on perceptual video quality. We composed non-periodic temporal variation patterns from periodic variation patterns. We present subjective test results and examine how does the overall quality under non-periodic variation relate to the qualities of individual periodic components, and how does it relate to the instantaneous qualities at different time points. We propose two quality models based on our observations and data analysis. Such quality assessment and modeling are essential for designing video adaptation strategy when delivering video over dynamically changing wireless links.

Typical text clustering methods use the bag of words (BoW) representation to describe content of documents. However, this method is known to have several limitations. Employing Wikipedia as the lexical knowledge base has shown an improvement of the text representation for data-mining purposes. Promising extensions of that trend employ hierarchical organization of Wikipedia category system. In this paper we propose three path-based measures for calculating document relatedness in such conceptual space and compare them with the Path Length widely used approach. We perform their evaluation using the OPTICS clustering algorithm for categorization of keyword-based search results. The results have shown that our method outperforms the Path-Length approach. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

Customer service improvement is directly related with organizational standards and productivity. Employees activities have certain objectives to be followed but sometimes outcomes are different than expected. Human error while performing regular job activities cause sufficient losses and difficult to address. Management faces real challenges while dealing with employee related issues and sometimes becomes unproductive. We propose Brahms Model with multi layered alert filtration and feedback cycle which would address the human error in the system and generate the filtered alerts in the form of sms or by emails. This is especially useful for Human-computer Interfacing (HCI) Scenarios. Controlling human error and addressing real issues may protect any institution from severe damage and losses. Efficiency of a customer service department can be improved and maximized by multi-layered alert filtration system using Brahms Model.

This paper presents a design of an elliptical patch textile antenna having operating frequency at 2.45 GHz for RFID application. The proposed antenna consists of elliptical patch on Dacron fabric (□ r =3) as substrate followed by a partial ground at the back of the substrate. The overall size of the proposed antenna is 45×38 mm 2 . The proposed antenna has a gain of 3.386 dB with VSWR of 1.07. The performance of the proposed antenna is analyzed under four angles of bending. The effect of change in feed length is also focused. The characteristics, low profile and compact size of the antenna depicts as a potential candidate for RFID application. CST Microwave Studio package is used for design and simulation purpose.

The use of social media involves employing web and mobile technologies to support interactive dialogue and mediate human communication. With the influence of social media in political, economic, and recreational fields, higher educational institutions start to recognize and utilize the idea of adopting the emerging technology in education processes. This paper highlights the difficulty that educators face in the age of social media. The paper discusses how to teach an increasingly networked generation that is ready to search for the opinions of their peers (who may be anonymous) on the internet besides what they learn from classroom teaching. Particularly, this paper discusses the challenges, opportunities, and possible practice of using social media in management engineering courses. The paper suggests using Cooperative Learning as the instructional method to let students work together in small groups to enable and organize students to participate the authentic and focused learning activities. © 2014 Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK.

Robots operating in household environments need to interact with food containers of different types. Whether a container is filled with milk, juice, yogurt or coffee may affect the way robots grasp and manipulate the container. In this paper, we concentrate on the problem of identifying what kind of content is in a container based on tactile and/or visual feedback in combination with grasping. In particular, we investigate the benefits of using unimodal (visual or tactile) or bimodal (visual-tactile) sensory data for this purpose. We direct our study toward cardboard containers with liquid or solid content or being empty. The motivation for using grasping rather than shaking is that we want to investigate the content prior to applying manipulation actions to a container. Our results show that we achieve comparable classification rates with unimodal data and that the visual and tactile data are complimentary.
