The escalating frequency of geological disasters, local conflicts, and public health crises necessitates robust emergency communication systems within Internet of Things (IoT) frameworks to ensure public safety. Employing Power-Domain NOMA (PD-NOMA) and Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) enables effective multi-device communication that is crucial for emergency responses. However, the practical implementation of NOMA technologies in emergency scenarios is hindered by existing resource constraints and the requirement of prioritizing critical emergency information. To address these limitations, we propose a multi-objective optimization-based NOMA framework to maximize network throughput while ensuring quality of service (QoS) and energy efficiency. This framework incorporates a novel communication grouping algorithm based on queue penalty optimization and an Actor-Critic-based dynamic updating algorithm for multiple resource allocation. Our study proposes a practical approach to enhance emergency communication in disaster areas, ensuring efficient and reliable network performance under various constraints.

Sensor network localization (SNL) is a challenging problem due to its inherent non-convexity and the effects of noise in inter-node ranging measurements and anchor node position. We formulate a non-convex SNL problem as a multiplayer non-convex potential game and investigate the existence and uniqueness of a Nash equilibrium (NE) in both the ideal setting without measurement noise and the practical setting with measurement noise. We first show that the NE exists and is unique in the noiseless case, and corresponds to the precise network localization. Then, we study the SNL for the case with errors affecting the anchor node position and the inter-node distance measurements. Specifically, we establish that in case these errors are sufficiently small, the NE exists and is unique. It is shown that the NE is an approximate solution to the SNL problem, and that the position errors can be quantified accordingly. Based on these findings, we apply the results to case studies involving only inter-node distance measurement errors and only anchor position information inaccuracies.

In this paper we deal with stochastic optimization problems where the data distributions change in response to the decision variables. Traditionally, the study of optimization problems with decision-dependent distributions has assumed either the absence of constraints or fixed constraints. This work considers a more general setting where the constraints can also dynamically adjust in response to changes in the decision variables. Specifically, we consider linear constraints and analyze the effect of decision-dependent distributions in both the objective function and constraints. Firstly, we establish a sufficient condition for the existence of a constrained equilibrium point, at which the distributions remain invariant under retraining. Moreover, we propose and analyze two algorithms: repeated constrained optimization and repeated dual ascent. For each algorithm, we provide sufficient conditions for convergence to the constrained equilibrium point. Furthermore, we explore the relationship between the equilibrium point and the optimal point for the constrained decision-dependent optimization problem. Notably, our results encompass previous findings as special cases when the constraints remain fixed. To show the effectiveness of our theoretical analysis, we provide numerical experiments on both a market problem and a dynamic pricing problem for parking based on real-world data. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

With the rapid proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous vehicles (AVs), or self-driving cars, rely heavily on real-time data sharing and message exchanges over wireless networks. AVs use sensors, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced algorithms to perform various functions, enabling users to operate without human intervention. Owing to the flexibility and high mobility of drones, they could aid in the operations of AVs. However, the security and privacy are the main concerns;specifically, the threat of physical capture and violation of anonymity are the main hurdles for realization of secure communication among the AVs and drones. To address these challenges, we propose an anonymous and provably Secure Lightweight Authentication Protocol for unmanned-aerial-vehicle-assisted Internet of Autonomous Vehicles (SLAP-IoAV). The proposed protocol uses cryptographic primitives such as exclusive-OR operations, elliptic-curve cryptography, collision-resistant one-way hashing, and concatenation to ensure robust security. An informal security analysis found that SLAP-IoAV is secure against several known attacks, and a performance analysis established that the protocol has less computational and communication overhead than existing competitive protocols. Additionally, Scyther simulation results confirm that no security vulnerabilities are present. Overall, our protocol delivers superior security and performance, making it well-suited to real-world applications in the AV industry. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Reliable modeling of river sediments transport is important as it is a defining factor of the economic viability of dams, the durability of hydroelectric-equipment, river susceptibility to pollution, suitability for navigation, and potential for aesthetics and fish habitat. The capability of a new machine learning model, fuzzy c-means based neuro-fuzzy system calibrated using the hybrid particle swarm optimization-gravitational search algorithm（ANFIS-FCM-PSOGSA） in improving the estimation accuracy of river suspended sediment loads（SSLs） is investigated in the current study. The outcomes of the proposed method were compared with those obtained using the fuzzy c-means based neuro-fuzzy system calibrated using particle swarm optimization（ANFIS-FCM-PSO）, ANFIS-FCM, and sediment rating curve（SRC） models. Various input combinations involving lagged river flow（Q） and suspended sediment（S） values were used for model development. The effect of Q and S on the model's accuracy also was assessed by including the difference between lagged Q and S values as inputs. The model performance was assessed using the root mean square error（RMSE）, mean absolute error（MAE）, Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency（NSE）, and coefficient of determination（R2） and several graphical comparison methods. The results showed that the proposed model enhanced the prediction performance of the ANFIS-FCM-PSO（or ANFIS-FCM） models by 8.14%（1.72%）, 14.7%（5.71%）, 12.5%（2.27%）, and 25.6%（1.86%）,in terms of the RMSE, MAE, NSE and R2, respectively. The current study established the potential of the proposed ANFIS-FCM-PSOGSA model for simulation of the cumulative sediment load. The modeling results revealed the potential effects of the river flow lags on the sediment transport quantification.

Forty years ago, in 1983, Lee Schruben proposed the Event Graph formalism and modeling language, subsequently defining the paradigm of Event-Based Simulation, in a precise way, which had been pioneered 20 years before by SIMSCRIPT. The purpose of this panel is for a group of Event Graph researchers both from Operations Research and computer Science, including the inventor of Event Graphs and one of his former PhD students who has made essential contributions to their theory, to discuss their views on the history and potential of Event Graph modeling and simulation. In particular, the adoption of Event Graphs as a discrete process modeling language in Discrete Event Simulation and in computer Science, and their potential as a foundation for the entire field of Discrete Event Simulation and for the fields of process modeling and AI in computer Science is debated. © 2023 IEEE.

PROV-IO+: A Cross-Platform Provenance Framework for Scientific Data on HPC systems

Data provenance, or data lineage, describes the life cycle of data. In scientific workflows on HPC systems, scientists often seek diverse provenance (e.g., origins of data products, usage patterns of datasets). Unfortunately, existing provenance solutions cannot address the challenges due to their incompatible provenance models and/or system implementations. In this paper, we analyze four representative scientific workflows in collaboration with the domain scientists to identify concrete provenance needs. Based on the first-hand analysis, we propose a provenance framework called PROV-IO+, which includes an I/O-centric provenance model for describing scientific data and the associated I/O operations and environments precisely. Moreover, we build a prototype of PROV-IO+ to enable end-to-end provenance support on real HPC systems with little manual effort. The PROV-IO+ framework can support both containerized and non-containerized workflows on different HPC platforms with flexibility in selecting various classes of provenance. Our experiments with realistic workflows show that PROV-IO+ can address the provenance needs of the domain scientists effectively with reasonable performance (e.g., less than 3.5% tracking overhead for most experiments). There is no doubt about the urgency of ensuring trust in e-voting systems since elections without trust cannot be acceptable in a democratic society. To solve this problem, it was proposed to use blockchain technology, however, in voting systems this leads to significant delays in the execution of transactions, and the software solution is accessible only to a narrow circle of specialists, which clearly does not help to show confidence on the part of voters. This paper proposes a different approach, which is based on the widely available verification of all means and processes that may cause distrust in the accuracy of the vote count or in ensuring their confidentiality. We offer a solution to the problem of transparency of all hardware and software that cause distrust. Voting systems that use this approach are implemented in three leading Ukrainian universities for student elections to self-government bodies. The conceptual model of the e-voting system for state elections on the example of Ukraine is presented. Links to Internet resources are provided where you can not only get acquainted with the principles of building the system, but also conduct an experimental vote in Ukrainian, English or Russian. In this paper we propose a shared regression network to jointly estimate the pose of multiple objects, replacing multiple object-specific solutions. We demonstrate that this shared network can outperform other similar approaches that rely on multiple object-specific models by evaluating it on the TLESS dataset using the VSD (Visible Surface Discrepancy). Our approach offers a less complex solution, with fewer parameters, lower memory consumption and less training required. Furthermore, it inherently handles symmetric objects by using a depth-based loss during training and can predict in real-time. Finally, we show how our proposed pipeline can be used for fine-tuning a feature extractor jointly on all objects while training the shared pose regression network. This fine-tuning process improves the pose estimation performance.
