This article discusses the limitations and increasing costs of petroleum and fossil fuels for internal combustion engines, and highlights the urgent need for alternative fuel sources. It emphasizes the environmental and health issues caused by diesel fuel emissions and discusses biodiesel as a promising alternative. Biodiesel, derived from plant seeds or biomass through esterification, is a renewable, oil-free fuel that can be blended with diesel. The share of biofuels in the automotive industry has been growing rapidly due to environmental, social and economic concerns. Various approaches to using vegetable oils as biofuels in internal combustion engines have been explored, including pyrolysis, micro emulsification, and esterification. The study investigates the ignition characteristics of conventional diesel and biodiesel blends, with experimental results showing promise for reducing environmental impact and conserving resources.

This paper presents the Kinematic and Kinetic properties of the 3-RRS parallel manipulator that has been designed and prototyped at the ARAS Lab, together with an extensive experimental setup. Inverse and forward kinematics of the mechanism are studied, which leads to the attainment of eight possible solutions in each case, of which just one is physically acceptable and maintains its consistency in both analyses. In addition, the Jacobian matrix of the manipulator is derived for various operational scenarios. In this most recent update, a linear actuator under the moving platform is added to cancel the effect of the mass of the plate and the ball for enhancing the responsiveness of the system. Dynamic and kinetic equations are updated based on reduced gravitational effects.

Modern unstable conditions of the market environment dictate the need for transport logistics enterprises to predict possible risk situations in order to prevent them, as well as to develop tools that allow forming management decisions, evaluating the effectiveness of each of them and choosing the most appropriate one, taking into account specific tasks and various influencing factors. As risks, situations of failure to achieve the goals of the cargo port, as well as failure to achieve standard values by the indicators for assessing these goals are considered. Goals and indicators are indicated in the constructed balanced scorecard (BSC). A set of links between goals and indicators for their assessment with risks at various levels of management is presented in the form of a developed multi-level hybrid logical-probabilistic (LP) risk model of the cargo port, as well as in detailed scenario models of this LP model. The ontological model contains all the information about the interaction of elements that affect the onset of risky events, and allows you to select options for exiting a risky situation in accordance with various specified conditions. The simulation model allows, based on the results of requests to the ontological model and the scenarios of simulation experiments developed on their basis, to develop a management decision that allows avoiding risky situations in the longer term, taking into account all available stochastic characteristics and factors of influence.

The essential quality parameter of rolled products is the flatness along the rolled stock length. The profile defects of the rolled stock, produced at the modern plate mill 5000, frequently occur in the course of intense cooling implied by the thermomechanical rolling technology. To eliminate them, the mill lines include cold straightening machines. The authors show typical flatness defects caused by the occurrence of longitudinal, central and edge waves. Further, the paper characterizes a cold straightening machine installed at the mill 5000 and provides the parameters of electric engines of straightening rollers. The key drawback of the design algorithm for electric drives' control is setting engine constant moments regardless of the thickness and character of the defects in the rolled stock processed. This causes overloading of the electric and mechanical systems of certain rollers and unsatisfactory product quality. To eliminate the drawback, the authors developed a method for individual setting of engine moments closely coupled in the course of sheet processing. The authors present a functional block diagram for the control system to implement the method. The rationale is provided for the digital setting of moment controllers switched on the inputs of speed controllers. The authors conducted simulation modelling and comparative analysis of engine speeds and moments at the design and proposed settings. The paper provides the analysis of oscillograms obtained before and after the introduction of the control system developed. Its technical and economic feasibility was confirmed during operation. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper provides a method for predicting the energy efficiency of buildings using artificial intelligence tools. The scopes is twofold: prediction of the levels of the heating load and cooling load of buildings. A feature of this research is the performance of intellectual analysis in conditions of a limited amount of data when solving the stated tasks. An improved method of augmentation and prediction (input-doubling method) is proposed by processing data within each cluster of the studied dataset. The selection of the latter occurs due to the use of the fast and easy-to-implement k-means method. Next, a prediction is made using the input-doubling method within each separate cluster. The simulation of the method was performed on a real-world dataset of 768 observations. The proposed approach was found to have a high prediction accuracy in the absence of overfitting and high generalization properties of the improved method. Comparison with existing methods showed an increase in accuracy by 40-46% (MSE) compared to SVR with rbf kernel, which is the basis for the improved method, and by 5-12% (MSE) compared to the closest existing hierarchical predictor. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.. Cable-driven Parallel Robots (CDPRs) offer a wider range of workspace compared to rigid-link parallel robots. These robots are equipped with an actuation system that satisfies some requirements, such as having low inertia and a negligible amount of friction. These two criteria lead to the agility definition of a system. On the other hand, winch-drum actuation systems should be able to wind the cable properly, in a way it does not be wound on itself. In this paper, an innovative winch-drum actuation system with a universal joint module is designed and fabricated for a CDPR. The winch-drum module is equipped with a power screw module which allows the cable to be wound properly around the drum and the universal joint module allows the cable to accordingly orient within the workspace. To validate the proposed designated system, it is experimentally evaluated in two control scenarios; i.e. reaching a set point and path tracking task The results show that the proposed actuation system fulfills the desired criteria and has the potential to be implemented in any other CDPR.

Continuum manipulator modeling is always associated with structured and unstructured uncertainties. Therefore, model-based control system design for this class of robotic systems will be very challenging. On the other hand, the performance quality of model-free controllers is completely dependent on their hyperparameters; they are also very sensitive to the considered trajectory for the system. As a result, using model-free controllers will require setting parameters for different scenarios. In this research, the design of a model-free controller with comparable performance to model-based control strategies is presented. To this end, various parameters are determined online by the gain adjustment system. The research innovation is to use a supervised machine learning method, fuzzy inference system (FIS), to implement the intelligent gain adaptation system to achieve this goal. The Modified Transpose Jacobian (MTJ) performs well in trajectory tracking due to its approximated feedback linearization tool. In addition, the PID controller structure makes it a locally robust control strategy. An adaptive gain adjustment system can greatly increase algorithm potential and establish the capability to follow trajectories in different work points in the system work space. This research aims to improve the performance of the MTJ model-free control strategy in tracking trajectories starting from arbitrary initial conditions in the system work space. This is achieved by the gain adjustment system design using a fuzzy inference system. Both simulation and experimental results reveal the merits of the proposed controller.

Modern electric grid companies are focused on minimum economically feasible costs and are aimed at improving the efficiency of financial and economic activities through the rational use of resources. The digital twin structure is proposed for the management of field service teams in the event of accidents and technological failures in an electric grid company. The digital twin includes an agent model, a system dynamics model, a geographic information system component, and modules with experiments. The description of the simulation model of management of field service teams in the event of accidents and technological failures is formalized, the input and output information on the model components is highlighted, the information is structured, and the scheme of the system dynamics model is created. Experiment designs for the digital twin of the management of field service teams in the event of accidents and technological failures in order to determine the best reliability and cost indicators are developed. The developed approach can be used to create digital twins of the management process of field service teams in the event of accidents and technological failures for various electric grid companies by selecting the parameters of simulation models according to the statistical reports by electric grid companies and connecting the appropriate GIS modules. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. The development of digital twins (DTs) of industrial electrical systems is attributed to the need for the reduction of time and material resource inputs during their virtual commissioning (VC). The same problem occurs during renovation with complete or partial equipment replacement and/or control systems. These problems can be efficiently solved by developing object-oriented DTs based on the Simulink Real Time software and using hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HIL). This software is compatible with Matlab Simulink and the Simscape package, which makes it suitable for the industrial usage. The authors suggest a HIL-based approach that helps make a virtual real-time computer model, with process control signals coming from the industrial PLC that controls the real physical object. This problem occurred during the renovation of the horizontal stand electric drives of a 5000 plate mill. The authors provide the flow charts of the electromechanical system and the object-oriented DT. The implementation of DT in Matlab Simulink Desktop Real Time is reviewed in laboratory settings. The authors present the block structures that make up a virtual model of the electromechanical system. The developed DT was used to adjust control algorithms and controllers and study the dynamic modes over a rolling cycle. The adequacy of the processes was tested by comparing the oscillograms obtained with the developed DT and the rolling mill. The authors stress the feasibility of developing DTs on the Simulink Real Time platform using HIL simulation during VC and renovation of complex industrial objects.

This report reviews an example of acoustic positioning of partial discharges (PD) in the tank of a high-voltage oil-filled transformer. The literature review confirms the importance of PD monitoring and justifies the feasibility of positioning discharge activity centers. The precise positioning of PD sources is required to determine the location of insulation defects. The authors provide brief information on the development of PD positioning methods and note that their practical application has been insufficiently covered in publications. They present the results of electromagnetic and acoustic PD positioning in a 110 kV transformer. Some details are provided on the devices and measurement methods used, including the localization of areas with increased PD intensity using one acoustic sensor and the subsequent center localization through the installation of 4 sensors at even intervals. The authors provide PD signals and defect impulses received from each of the sensors and demonstrate the difference in the registration time of these signals. They explain the principle behind PD center positioning, which is determined considering delays in signal reception. The authors demonstrate the usage of the Inva (Portable) software for the processing and visualization of acoustic positioning results. They note that changes in the propagation rate of acoustic waves in a heterogeneous medium result in the reduced accuracy of results. The authors also outline the prospects of the research into the elimination of occurring defects.
