Currently, the concept of artificial intelligence has become extremely widespread, but there is a difficulty in accurately defining this concept. User Experience (UX) researchers and designers who seek to predict users' subjective impressions nowadays turn to Machine Learning (ML) models trained on marked-up data. Labeling of graphical user interfaces (UIs) is a rather time-consuming process that is also prone to errors and inaccuracies, particularly if motivation of the human labelers is low. Correspondingly, the size of datasets in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) rarely exceeds the order of 10,000, and the field largely relies on feature-based models. In our paper, we compare two principal ways of obtaining the features, with respect to their effect on the quality of the models that predict users' impressions of web pages' Complexity, Aesthetics and Orderliness. First, we calculated several layout-related metrics - balance, equilibrium, symmetry - for 368 website screenshots labeled by 40 human volunteers. Second, we obtained the similar metrics from ML-based online services working with raw web UI images. Our results suggest that despite the limitations of the current automated web UI parametrization tools, their metrics can actually yield superior models (having R2s higher by 107% on average). Our key implication for UI/UX designers and ML researchers is that the expected ROI should be carefully weighted before committing to the tedious manual web UI data labeling. © 2024 IEEE.

Not many people realize that eye-tracking might be a fruitful addition to the widely established usability testing, at the same time not becoming prohibitively expensive for smaller companies. Unlike in research applications of the human gaze training technologies that require high precision, usability engineering professionals are mostly interested in concrete improvements to the user interfaces they develop. Correspondingly, affordable budgets and more frequent testing sessions yield better practical results. This paper presents a 'discount' approach implementing 'good enough' eye-tracking for usability testing with a standard webcam. A convolutional neural network was trained to predict screen coordinates from eye images, compensating for the precision provided by the specialized equipment. To improve the accuracy, three different data collection methods were tested, and the combined mesh-point based one allowed the best error (Root Mean Square Error, RMSE) of 78 pixels on a 1920xl080 screen. Although the error was about 2-3 inferior to the one obtained for the professional equipment, our results demonstrate that a webcam combined with deep learning techniques can serve as an affordable alternative for real-time eye-tracking. This approach has the potential to significantly reduce costs and make eye-tracking technology more accessible to a broader community of software developers and user interface designers. © 2024 IEEE.

Multilayer printed circuit boards are widely used in the development of modern electronic devices. But for their effective use it is often necessary to solve problems of electromagnetic compatibility. The application of interconnections of multilayer printed circuit boards in the form of twisted pairs is considered. Structurally, a twisted pair is implemented in two layers of a multilayer printed circuit board using vias. The paper analyzes electromagnetic crosstalk in the interconnections of multilayer printed circuit boards in the form of twisted pairs. The results are compared with the results of crosstalk analysis in coplanar interconnects. The results of the comparison show that the use of twisted pair leads to a reduction in crosstalk at the far end of the communication line. © 2023 IEEE.

Article discusses the issues of creating models and methods for detecting contours in images in control systems and automation of technological processes and objects based on computer vision technologies. An approach based on the construction and analysis of image weight models is proposed. This approach involves performing a discrete wavelet transform of the image and calculating weight values based on the detailing coefficients to assess the significance of changes in the pixels of copies of various levels of decomposition. The set of weight values is a weight model. Since significant changes are characteristic of contour points, the analysis of weight models makes it possible to detect them in images. It is also shown that the application of the Canny detector to the image weight model reduces the sensitivity to noise and the complexity of selecting the lower and upper thresholds. © 2023 IEEE.

In this article, we outlined the goals and prospects for short- and long-term data traffic forecasting in 5G networks. The study provides an overview of current traffic forecasting methods. A large number of works indicate a variety of approaches to the analysis and forecasting of mobile traffic. These approaches include both traditional statistical methods and deep learning methods, which is an important factor for the development of network technologies and optimization of radio access networks. Using mobile traffic data from Google Meet, MS Teams and Zoom video conferencing systems as an example, we studied the features of this type of traffic and came to the conclusion that the distribution of time intervals between the arrival of packets corresponds to an a-stable distribution. Having studied some machine learning methods designed for time series forecasting, we performed a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of these methods for short-term forecasting of data traffic intensity. © 2024 IEEE.

In precision farming, it is important to assess indicators such as seedling density, leaf area index (LAI), and to identify plant growth stages for yield prediction. Plant detection can provide a measure of crop density. Calculation of segmented pixel area in an image can be used to determine crop development and LAI. In this paper, an approach to solve the sunflower plant segmentation problem from photos produced by a UAV is considered. The problem is complicated by the limited size of the training sample. Unet and Feature Pyramid Network (FPN) are considered for segmentation. The result is that FPN is on average 1.05% more accurate than Unet and the average mIoU of the three classes is 1.26% higher. The effect of image brightness and contrast on accuracy in the case of different photo capture conditions is considered. © 2023 IEEE.

The paper describes the results of research into the possibility of creating a system for automated control of crop development indicators using UAV images and neural networks. Such architectures as YOLOv5, U-Net and FPN (Feature Pyramid Network) are considered. It is found out that YOLOv5m neural network is able to qualitatively detect plants on a sample of 363 images with an accuracy AP@5:.95 of 92.4 %. The detection efficiency can be improved both by adding original images to the training sample and by increasing it artificially. Plant detection will help to determine the density of crops. It is shown that the calculation of the area of segmented pixels in an image can be used to determine crop development and leaf area index. FPNs are used for segmentation and it is obtained that FPNs are on average 1.05% more accurate than Unet and the average mIoU across the three classes is 1.26% larger. © 2023 IEEE.

In today's world, where production processes are becoming increasingly automated, ensuring safety on production sites is becoming a priority. Conventional methods of monitoring and enforcing safety regulations require large resources and are not always effective. However, with the development of machine learning technologies, new prospects are emerging in the field of detecting safety violations in production. An information system has been developed for monitoring and analyzing video from cameras, which automatically detects violations and generates appropriate reports. To train the system, a neural network based on the YOLOv8 model was used. The automatic parameter tuning algorithm was implemented using the gradient descent method to optimize learning. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, forecasting algorithms were tested on renewable energy production data and their comparative analysis was carried outThe machine learning methods that were used in the work are DecisionTree, AdaBoost, RandomForest and LSTM *** the analysis of the results of the study, it can be seen that the accuracy of the forecast of the LSTM neural network is higher than all other methods considered, but at the cost of this was the speed of creating a forecast *** the considered methods, according to the combination of time and quality criteria, LSTM neural networks turned out to be the best for data analysis, showing the best accuracy. But for SMALL HYDRO and SOLAR data, RandomForest is the preferred method. It made it possible to build sufficiently accurate models in much less time than neural networks. © 2023 IEEE.
