This review aims to contribute to the quest for artificial general intelligence by examining neuroscience and cognitive psychology methods for potential inspiration. Despite the impressive advancements achieved by deep learning models in various domains, they still have shortcomings in abstract reasoning and causal understanding. Such capabilities should be ultimately integrated into artificial intelligence systems in order to surpass data-driven limitations and support decision making in a way more similar to human intelligence. This work is a vertical review that attempts a wide-ranging exploration of brain function, spanning from lower-level biological neurons, spiking neural networks, and neuronal ensembles to higher-level concepts such as brain anatomy, vector symbolic architectures, cognitive and categorization models, and cognitive architectures. The hope is that these concepts may offer insights for solutions in artificial general intelligence. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

The value of formative evaluation in an education program

Evaluation is a process that compares the results with the target, an initial situation with the final one. ‘Evaluate’ means making an assessment based on some measure or information and referring to some criteria. The Formative evaluation is a process which is used by trainers and trainees and provides feedback on updating current teaching and learning methods in order to improve trainer’s achievement in relation of teaching goals. In this case study a research was carried out using the technique of formative evaluation in order to evaluate two thematic areas with the cooperation of the program’s leaders. The aim of the study was to extract conclusions and opinions about the program’s value, the achievement goals and the organisation implementation requirements and how all this results will been feed backed to program managers and policymakers with the appropriate information which are necessary to adopt appropriate corrective interventions for programs quality improvement. Phase contrast imaging is based on the refraction of the X-ray beam as it passes through the material and shows excellent results for biological tissues. In this paper, we present a new approach for a Python algorithm that can filtrate phase contrast images (attenuation, phase, and scattering) and improve the identification of the interest object. The images used in this work were obtained with a 5.66 m long Talbot-Lau interferometer with a record angular sensitivity of 0.82 µradians, a phase stepping procedure of 16 steps, and a mean energy of 30 keV. The sample used was 0.89 mm diameter fiber from an accredited mammographic phantom. The proposed algorithm extracts the attenuation, phase, and scattering images from the dataset using Fast Fourier Transform. For filtration, we implemented a non-linear filter (median) to eliminate the noise generated by the acquisition system and the projection processing and to improve the contrast. The results were analyzed by calculation of the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR). © 2023, Politechnica University of Bucharest. All rights reserved.

In recent years, the hyperspectral image (HSI) classification has attracted great attention in the field of earth observation. With the expansion of application scenarios and the continuous improvement of application requirements, new classes of HSI continue to emerge. In the face of open and dynamic application scenarios, the model is required to be able to continuously learn new categories based on maintaining existing category knowledge. Class incremental learning algorithms have received extensive attention as key solutions to the problem above. In this paper, we use a regularization-based incremental learning algorithm, elastic weight consolidation (EWC) for class incremental learning for HSI classification. After data preprocessing to reduce data dimensions, we select new classes for research on class incremental learning. We combine 3D-2D convolutional structures and residual blocks as the classification network and use real data playback mechanism to improve class recognition accuracy and realize class incremental recognition of HSI data. We demonstrate the feasibility of the algorithm with extensive experiments based on three widely used hyperspectral datasets. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Nowadays, information and knowledge represent the fundamental wealth of an organisation. Enterprises try to utilise this wealth to gain advantage when making decisions such as a project’s acceptance. After a project finishes, a quality management plan defines its quality level. The business intelligence theories help the individual to evaluate the proposed plan in order to target the project’s results. But, do all the evaluation methods have the same reliability? We check the project’s quality by using paper and online questionnaire administration. Although the scope is the same, there are differences, giving different results. So, we intelligently investigated the quality of the university educational process. The results show that the administration method has a significant effect on overall results. Thus, the quality check of a project using questionnaires needs to have an attentive design, avoid points that introduce uncertainties and able to show the real opinion of the respondents. As society progresses, liquid identification plays an increasingly important role in human life. But for now, minority of existing liquid identification solutions on the market can meet daily requirements of being ubiquitous, cost-effective and non-intrusive enough. In this work, we propose ASLiquid, the first liquid counterfeit identification system with commercial off-the-shelf earphones. Our core insight is that earphones can effectively induce acoustic resonance in container, and this phenomenon is observed highly associated with the changes in liquid density and solute compositions. Deploying ASLiquid introduces three main challenges: hardware heterogeneity among different earphones, diversity of user operations, and data complexity due to variations in liquid volume and device placement. To address these issues, we first propose to eliminate the existence of hardware noise and frequency response diversity for an earphone-irrelevant solution. Afterwards, we design a user operation adaptation algorithm to extract valuable feature data during each measurement period. To alleviate problems in data complexity, we propose a spectrum projection algorithm that can effectively generate CFR data of unknown liquid volumes and a VAE based anomaly detection model for counterfeit identification. We evaluate our system with six different earphones and under various conditions. Experimental results reveal that ASLiquid can achieve F1 scores of 95%-99.25% for seven frequently occurring liquid counterfeit tasks, even in specialized attacks on liquids with 1% difference in mass fraction and different types of solutions but with the same density. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

Wind power is one of the sustainable ways to generate renewable *** recent years,some countries have set renewables to meet future energy needs,with the primary goal of reducing emissions and promoting sustainable growth,primarily the use of wind and solar *** achieve the prediction of wind power generation,several deep and machine learning models are constructed in this article as base *** regression models are Deep neural network(DNN),k-nearest neighbor(KNN)regressor,long short-term memory(LSTM),averaging model,random forest(RF)regressor,bagging regressor,and gradient boosting(GB)*** addition,data cleaning and data preprocessing were performed to the *** dataset used in this study includes 4 features and 50530 *** accurately predict the wind power values,we propose in this paper a new optimization technique based on stochastic fractal search and particle swarm optimization(SFSPSO)to optimize the parameters of LSTM *** evaluation criteria were utilized to estimate the efficiency of the regression models,namely,mean absolute error(MAE),Nash Sutcliffe Efficiency(NSE),mean square error(MSE),coefficient of determination(R2),root mean squared error(RMSE).The experimental results illustrated that the proposed optimization of LSTM using SFS-PSO model achieved the best results with R2 equals 99.99%in predicting the wind power values.

Massive streaming data is the most current technology for storing and manipulating large quantities of data. Processing the substantial amount of streaming data is still a challenging issue. The speed and throughput can be improved while extracting this huge amount of data by using a dynamic query processing technique. The sector-based incremental clustering indexing and scalable deletion approach is used in this paper to improve the system performance. Stream processing can be more effective and flexible by applying dynamic query processing technique. Incremental clustering using sector-based method and scalable deletion which removes unwanted, spurious data is proposed in this work in order to process incoming streaming data effectively. Incremental clustering is one of the clustering methods used for processing dynamic information. It is not necessary to plan the entire dataset ahead of time in this method which is suitable for live streaming data, because it processes one instance at a time. So, less space and time is used. Various queries with different types of datasets executed using sector based incremental clustering and scalable deletion methods. The proposed system achieves the highest results for more than 90% accuracy with less space and more speed when the execution time and data retrieval are empirically increased compared with conventional approaches. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
