The paper presents project and its verification of a prototype integrated circuit containing an analog, programmable finite impulse response (FIR) filter, implemented in CMOS 350 nm technology. The structure of the filter is based on the switched capacitor technique. In circuits of this type, one of main challenges is an efficient implementation of filter coefficients, which result from several factors described in this work. When implementing such filters as programmable circuits, the values of their coefficients have to be limited to a selected range, i.e. a given resolution in bits. In the implemented prototype filter, the filter coefficients are represented by 6 bits in sign-magnitude notation, so they can take 63 different values only. In such filters, it is not possible to directly implement any frequency response of the filter. Each time, it is necessary to properly round the theoretical values of the coefficients so that they fit into the available range of discrete values resulting from the implementation. The authors of the work designed an algorithm that allows such matching. In 2017 the Russian government approved a programme, Russian Federation Digital Economy, the main goal of which is to create an ecosystem with large scale use of digital format data in all fields of social and economic activity [1]. The electric power industry is being transformed in accordance with the concept, Digital Transformation 2030, developed by Russian Power Grids PLC [2]. Pursuant to this concept, electric substations under construction should be digital. At present, Russia has a number of operating digital substations (DSS) (Medvedevskaya SS, UVAT SS, Desna SS, Tobol SS [3]–[5], while many DSSs are at the design or construction stage. The creation of new substations, and also reconstruction of already operating ones, requires solving the problems of operating conventional electromagnetic current and voltage transformers. Electromagnetic voltage transformers (VT) are energy-inefficient, explosion – and flammability- hazardous equipment (due to their requiring additional charging with low consumption by micro-processing devices), with large weight and dimensions (an NKF-100 type transformer weighing 840 kg).

This paper presents a blockchain-based platform for managing and issuing academic certificates that features security, transparency, non-repudiation and traceability. Relying on the security provided by Ethereum blockchain and using asymmetrical cryptography in certificate generation, combined with certificate revocation mechanisms, the proposed platform offers a reliable, decentralized and secure solution that can be used by academic institutions to streamline the management of academic certificates and reduce bureaucracy.

This review aims to contribute to the quest for artificial general intelligence by examining neuroscience and cognitive psychology methods for potential inspiration. Despite the impressive advancements achieved by deep learning models in various domains, they still have shortcomings in abstract reasoning and causal understanding. Such capabilities should be ultimately integrated into artificial intelligence systems in order to surpass data-driven limitations and support decision making in a way more similar to human intelligence. This work is a vertical review that attempts a wide-ranging exploration of brain function, spanning from lower-level biological neurons, spiking neural networks, and neuronal ensembles to higher-level concepts such as brain anatomy, vector symbolic architectures, cognitive and categorization models, and cognitive architectures. The hope is that these concepts may offer insights for solutions in artificial general intelligence. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

This paper presents the performance analysis and the most significant design decisions taken to improve the runtime performance of a quality-diversity volume rendering framework, focusing on using parallel and distributed computing to optimize specific stages within the framework pipeline. After considering the benefits and trade-offs of several aspects like minimization of execution time, portability and hardware independence, we developed a hybrid CPU-GPU parallel computing model that increased the overall efficiency. Using this model, we achieved significant improvement in runtime speed for critical components of the framework compared to the sequential implementation. Additionally, this model can be applied in a wide range of scenarios, where the performance improvements provided by GPU processing can be complemented by CPU parallelization, with better runtime results.

High-dimensional microarray data suffer from the confounding effects of irrelevant, redundant and noisy genes on the scalability and efficiency of classification algorithms. In order for an effective dimensionality reduction and the selection of informative genes, this paper introduces a novel approach using fractional calculus concepts. This study proposes a modified version of binary the bat algorithm named fractional-order binary bat algorithm (FBBA) able to control the convergence process using more historical memory of bat behaviors. The gene selection technique contains a two-stage hybrid filter/wrapper method which employs a new correlation-based feature clustering (CFC) algorithm in the filter stage and the FBBA in the wrapper stage. The CFC-FBBA is evaluated on ten microarray gene expression datasets by employing the support vector machine classifier with a k-fold Monte Carlo cross validation data partitioning model. Furthermore, the results show that the CFC-FBBA, while minimizing the size of the gene subset, achieves the highest classification accuracy in most cases compared to several state-of-art hybrid techniques. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Many robotic manipulation tasks are constrained due to kinematic limitations placed on the object being manipulated. This increases the complexity of manipulation tasks that operate in high dimensions, leading to increased risk that sampling based planners are unable to find optimal solutions. Whilst trajectory optimisation methods provide guaranteed optimal solutions when implementing constraints, they only provide locally optimal solutions in sequential decision-making and struggle to provide globally optimal paths. These constraints can be incorporated into the probabilistic latent spaces by using demonstrations that satisfy the constraint function. However whenever constraints change or a manipulator must perform different tasks the network must be retrained to accommodate the new constraints. In this paper, we provide an approach that allows the training of a single learned manifold that can be augmented to determine the constraint manifold for the manipulation task. Using this manifold, the geodesic between two points can be computed using policy search to solve the cost function associated with the geodesic curve length ${\mathcal{L}_\gamma }$. We provide comparisons in terms of path length against popular path planning algorithms with different kinematic constraints, demonstrating our method’s ability to find optimal shortest paths on constraint manifolds.

The problem of confrontation games between multi-agent teams has attracted considerable interest, and the question of how to ensure effective coordination of heterogeneous agents in dynamic and adversarial environments remains a significant challenge. In this paper, we present a decision-making methodology for a confrontation game between two teams, which is based on large language models (LLMs). The game is designed as a competitive Seek-and-Take task comprising three distinct robot types: reconnaissance, grabbing, and blocking robots. The LLMs enhance the robot team’s decision-making efficiency, delivering high-level commands that significantly improve coordination and adversarial performance. The game is initially formalized as a partially observable Markov decision process. Subsequently, a systematic construction of the LLM agents is provided, enabling real-time decisions based on the state information of a heterogeneous robot team (HRT). Detailed prompt design and the "Zero-shot-CoT" procedure are provided, and a cue word iteration method with reflections is proposed as a means of enhancing the decision-making efficiency of the LLMs and generating optimal collaboration strategies. Finally, the efficacy of the methodology is validated through experimentation with multiple LLMs in a multi-robot simulation environment. The results demonstrate that LLMs improve the efficiency and adaptability of decision-making in dynamic environments by serving as a core decision module, generating optimal strategies through real-time analysis. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents an algorithmic approach for segmenting news broadcasts produced by television stations. The proposed approach uses advanced signal processing techniques to extract and classify audio segments from Romanian TV news broadcasts. By using derivative of 1-dimensional Gaussian filter and binary classification models, this paper aims to automatically identify and classify news segments into categories such as studio news, field news, commercials and music breaks. The primary objective of this paper is to develop a segmentation methodology optimized for reduced computational memory and quick processing. By leveraging efficient computational techniques, the news segmentation can be performed in a timely manner without compromising accuracy. This optimization is crucial for real-time or near-real-time applications within TV networks, facilitating tasks such as content monitoring and analysis.

Domain-specific data characteristics: A study on meaning of stylometric sub-concepts and in-class imbalance

In the context of data imbalance probably the most investigated problem is imbalance of classes, as learning from the data with this characteristic makes detection of existing patterns for all classes more difficult. However, other problems related to imbalance also exists and the paper addresses such cases where classes are balanced, but there is in-class imbalance. Such imbalance can be caused by uneven representation of sub-concepts. When there is a noticeable difference between the numbers of samples belonging to sub-concepts, this can turn the under-represented sub-concepts into disjuncts. Data irregularities of this type can hinder recognition, therefore actions are typically taken to restore balance. In the investigations described, the issue was studied in the stylometric domain and various classifiers were applied to the data that was balanced, then imbalanced, and finally with restored balance. The experiments show that the specifics of the domain of application can put its own mark on the data which is difficult to overcome by standard processing such as under- or oversampling. Observed dependence on a learner and dataset makes the issue even more complex and layered, and shows the need for deeper studies.
