An essential step towards the solution of many scientific problems is to accomplish modeling and identification of the system under investigation. This paper endeavors to establish an empirical relationship between input and observed output data for the identification of I DOF hovering motion model of a twin rotor multi input-multi output system (TRMS). A TRMS is a scaled and simplified version of practical helicopter used as a laboratory platfonn for control experiments. Although the dynamics of the TRMS are simpler than those of a real helicopter, they retain the most important helicopter features such as couplings and strong nonlinearities as well as it can be perceived as an unconventional and complex 'air vehicle'. Recursive least squares (RLS) with variable forgetting is used to obtain a parametric model of the system. The results obtained are justified, presented and described in both time and frequency domains.

FitzHugh-Nagumo is one of the best known nonlinear neuronal models in mathematical physiology. In particular, spatio-temporal forms of this model have been used for modeling oscillatory behavior in living organisms such as the behavior of cardiac pacemaker cells. In this paper, we investigate the stability of their spatially discretized form, that is, diffusively coupled large-scale networks of piecewisely affine approximated FitzHugh-Nagumo models. Scalable criteria for ultimate boundedness are given taking connection profile (coupling strength, delay length, subsystem heterogeneity) robustness into account. This result is accomplished through a linear multi-agent system perspective for a class of piecewise affine systems.

Complex industrial and aerospatial systems require efficient monitoring and fault detection schemes to ease prognosis and health monitoring tasks. In this work we rely upon the model-based approach to perform robust fault detection and isolation using analytical and statistical models. We have combined Principal Component Analysis (PCA) together with Possible Conflicts (PCs), to improve the overall diagnosis process for complex system. Our proposal uses residuals computed using PCs as the input for the PCA tool. The PCA tool is able to accurately determine significant deviations in the residuals, that will be identified as faults. The integration of both techniques provides more robust results for fault detection, while avoiding false alarms in PCAs due to changes in operation modes. Moreover, it provides the PCA approach with the necessary mechanisms to perform fault isolation. This approach has been tested on a laboratory plant with real data, obtaining promising results.

This paper presents a vision-tracking system for a mobile robot, using robot motion and stereo vision data. The mobile robot has an actuator module which pans and tilts an integrated stereo camera. The proposed system controls the actuator to maintain the line of sight of the stereo camera towards a stationary target by using the robot motion data. The robot motion data are obtained from a gyroscope and encoders of the mobile robot. The stereo vision data from the camera is used to compensate for errors in the motion measurements, and to prevent a long term error accumulation. This vision-based compensation is used only when the robot stops or moves slowly, because the long vision processing times can cause the loop time to overrun. The proposed system is experimentally evaluated while the robot moves on a trajectory.

This paper addresses the problem of regulating a discrete-time linear uncertain and time-varying system to the origin. It is shown that, based on an interpolation technique, by minimizing an appropriate objective function, how feasibility and a robustly and asymptotically stable closed-loop behavior can be achieved. It is shown that the control is a piecewise affine and continuous function of the state. Several simulations demonstrate the performance of our results.
