The rapid growth of image archives increases the need for efficient and fast tools that can retrieve and search through a large amount of visual data. In this paper, we propose an efficient method of extracting the image color content, which serves as an image digital signature, allowing us to efficiently index and retrieve the content of large, heterogeneous multimedia Internet based databases. We apply the proposed method for the retrieval of images from the WEBMUSEUM Internet database, containing a collection of fine art images and show that the new method of image color representation is robust to image distorsions caused by resizing and compression and can be incorporated into existing retrieval systems which exploit the information on color content in digital images.

This paper introduces a scheme for improved data transmission in wireless links. The idea of the proposed scheme is to limit the amount of retransmitted data in case of errors, by using informative feedback instead of the traditionally used binary (ACK or NACK) feedback. The performance of the proposed scheme is assessed and compared to a protocol stack incorporating regular retransmission, in order to determine whether the idea of informative feedback has a potential. The estimation shows a significant improvement in goodput, when the error rate of the communication channel varies from 10 -6 to 10 -3 . Software that implements the proposed scheme is made, and tests are performed in order to verify the estimations. The tests show a significant performance increase, and based on the results it is concluded, that informative feedback in communication protocols has a noticeable potential.

In this paper, the results from a joint industry-academia project in industrial robotic force control are presented. The extension and implementation of an external sensor system for an industrial robot system, which can be used for high-bandwidth force control, are described. Results from two industrial applications using the system are presented, a stub grinding application using a new compliant grinding end-effector integrated with the robot control system, and a deburring application with a stiff tool requiring high-bandwidth force control in six degrees of freedom. Using the system an easily reconfigurable control structure was achieved, which was able to control contact forces with a sampling bandwidth of an order of magnitude higher than for conventional robot controllers

A consensus problem for multi-agent systems under jamming attacks is considered. Specifically, the agents are assumed to communicate over a shared network, where transmissions may fail at certain times due to jamming. We propose stochastic communication protocols so that the agents attempt to communicate with each other at random time instants that are unknown by the attacker. We obtain sufficient finite-time practical consensus conditions. Through a probabilistic analysis, we show that our communication protocols allow consensus under a class of attacks that were previously not considered. We demonstrate the efficacy of our results by considering two different strategies of the attacker: a deterministic attack strategy and a more malicious communication-aware strategy.

Discrete mechanics and optimal control (DMOC) is newly developed methodology to solve the optimal control problems of mechanical systems. It is based on a direct discretization of the Lagrange-d'Alembert principle. The constraints are modeled as Euler-Langrange equations for discrete states. With the application of DMOC, a new real-time trajectory generation approach is proposed. The formulated problem is solved in the open source free nonlinear programming solver IPOPT (interior point optimizer). Superior performance of DMOC is verified through a standard forced VanDerPol oscillator example. It is shown DMOC is much faster than NTG (nonlinear trajectory generation) in computation time, it is 1.31% of the CPU time. Finally, for real-time trajectory generation, a dynamical glider example is shown as one of its possible application fields.
