This work pertains to the generation of navigation functions for obstacle avoidance and target tracking. One initially defines a so-called spherical world which can be further mapped into many other different topologies using a series of diffeomorphic transformations. This specific configuration further allows one to exploit the main advantages of the sum function approach with respect to the obstacle collision avoidance capabilities of an agent, sum function which is used in order to induce an effective navigation function judging not only from computational perspective, but also from the local minima point of view. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Collaborative Satisfaction of Long-Term Spatial Constraints in Multi-Agent systems: A Distributed Optimization Approach (extended version)

This paper addresses the problem of collaboratively satisfying long-term spatial constraints in multi-agent systems. Each agent is subject to spatial constraints, expressed as inequalities, which may depend on the positions of other agents with whom they may or may not have direct communication. These constraints need to be satisfied asymptotically or after an unknown finite time. The agents’ objective is to collectively achieve a formation that fulfills all constraints. The problem is initially framed as a centralized unconstrained optimization, where the solution yields the optimal configuration by maximizing an objective function that reflects the degree of constraint satisfaction. This function encourages collaboration, ensuring agents help each other meet their constraints while fulfilling their own. When the constraints are infeasible, agents converge to a least-violating solution. A distributed consensus-based optimization scheme is then introduced, which approximates the centralized solution, leading to the development of distributed controllers for single-integrator agents. Contrastive Learning (CL) has emerged as a popular self-supervised representation learning paradigm that has been shown in many applications to perform similarly to traditional supervised learning methods. A key component of CL is mining the latent discriminative relationships between positive and negative samples and using them as self-supervised labels. We argue that this discriminative contrastive task is, in essence, similar to a classification task, and the "either positive or negative"hard label sampling strategies are arbitrary. To solve this problem, we explore ideas from data distillation, which considers probabilistic logit vectors as soft labels to transfer model knowledge. We attempt to abandon the classical hard sampling labels in CL and instead explore self-supervised soft labels. We adopt soft sampling labels that are extracted, without supervision, from the inherent relationships in data pairs to retain more information. We propose a new self-supervised graph learning method, Distill and Contrast (D&C), for learning representations that closely approximate natural data relationships. D&C extracts node similarities from the features and structures to derive soft sampling labels, which also eliminate noise in the data to increase robustness. Extensive experimental results on real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2025 IEEE.

Periodic-Enhanced Informer Model for Short-Term Wind Power Forecasting Using SCADA Data

Supervisory control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems can collect abundant information about wind farm operation and environment. To better make use of SCADA data, a periodic-enhanced informer model for short-term wind power forecasting using scada data is proposed. Firstly, to effectively filter out noise in SCADA data, a v-p curve-based method is adopted by incorporating a quartile approach to remove sparse outliers;a density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) algorithm is then employed to eliminate stacked outliers from the power curve. Secondly, a multi-feature input set selection method based on Maximization Information Coefficient is introduced to make better use of the SCADA system data by reducing the number of features. Thirdly, a Temporal Convolutional Network (TCN) is designed to extract the scalar projection of the input set, followed by fusing the local time stamp and global time stamp to build the periodic information enhanced prediction model embedding layer. Subsequently, the enhanced input set is fed into an informer model to predict future wind power. Finally, considering the multiple temporal scales structure characteristics present in the dataset, a multi-scale deep fusion module is established in the informer model to deeply integrate the features of different scales. It can simultaneously avoid the resource waste and overfitting problems caused by increasing the network depth. The experimental results, which are obtained from several deep learning methods on real SCADA data, demonstrate that the suggested approach has good predictive capability. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

On Space-Filling Input Design for Nonlinear Dynamic Model Learning: A Gaussian Process Approach

While optimal input design for linear systems has been well-established, no systematic approach exists for nonlinear systems, where robustness to extrapolation/interpolation errors is prioritized over minimizing estimated parameter variance. To address this issue, we develop a novel identification-oriented space-filling input design strategy for efficient covering of a well-defined region of interest. By placing a Gaussian Process (GP) prior on the joint input-state space, the proposed strategy leverages the GP posterior variance to construct a space-filling promoting input design cost function from the Bayesian point of view. This accordingly enables maximization of the coverage in the region of interest, thereby facilitating the generation of informative datasets. Furthermore, we theoretically prove that minimization of the cost function indicates the space-filling behavior. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is demonstrated on both an academic example and a mass-spring-damper system, highlighting its potential practical impact on efficient exploration in identification scenarios for nonlinear dynamical systems. © 2025, CC BY-NC-SA.

We introduce a method to evaluate the similarities between classes of objects based on the confusion matrices coming from the multi-class machine learning (ML) predictors that operate in the vector space generated by the classes. Operation in the confusion domain allows us to use the distance as evaluation metric of the closeness of the relevant properties carried by the classes. We applied the method to semiquantitatively evaluate the effects of X-ray and carbon ion radiation on cultured SW1353 chondrosarcoma cells with respect to the non-irradiated reference. We prove that it is possible to draw useful information on the strength of cells nuclei changes. © 2025, Politechnica University of Bucharest. All rights reserved.

Equilibrium-Independent control of Continuous-Time Nonlinear systems Via the LPV Framework

In this paper, we consider the analysis and control of continuous-time nonlinear systems to ensure universal shifted stability and performance, i.e., stability and performance w.r.t. each forced equilibrium point of the system. This "equilibrium-free"concept is especially beneficial for control problems that require the tracking of setpoints and rejection of persistent disturbances, such as input loads. In this paper, we show how the velocity form, i.e., the time-differentiated dynamics of the system, plays a crucial role in characterizing these properties and how the analysis of it can be solved by the application of Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) methods in a computationally efficient manner. Furthermore, by leveraging the properties of the velocity form and the LPV framework, a novel controller synthesis method is presented which ensures closed-loop universal shifted stability and performance. The proposed controller design is verified experimentally on a real system. Additionally, we compare the proposed method to a standard LPV control design, demonstrating the improved stability and performance guarantees of the new approach. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

A meta-reinforcement learning method for adaptive payload transportation with variations

The safe transport of cable-suspended payloads by a group of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) depends on their capacity to effectively respond to fluctuations in the dynamics caused by external variations, such as wind gusts. For group transportation with obstacles, internal variations, such as changes in formation, can also alter the space occupancy of the system related to collision detection. However, traditional adaptive learning methods are challenging to adapt to these two variations. In this paper, we present a learning-based method for collision-free dual-UAV–payload transportation in the presence of varied wind force and formation change. It consists of an adaptive trajectory tracking controller based on meta-model-based reinforcement learning with online adaptation and a novel correction policy, and a path planner that can sample collision-free goal states of the system for the controller based on the meta-collision predictor. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed trajectory tracking controller outperforms state-of-the-art model-free, model-based, and variational inference methods in terms of payload tracking error reduction and robustness when dealing with the variations mentioned above. Specifically, the proposed controller reduces the average payload tracking error to less than 0.1 metres in most tasks without obstacles. Furthermore, by following the adapted paths generated by the path planner, the trajectory tracking controller can effectively track the payload while ensuring collision-free safety of the dual-UAV–payload system during navigation among obstacles. The success rate of the proposed method is more than 80% in all scenarios with obstacles. Vision-based automatic fruit counting with UAV

The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for smart agriculture is becoming increasingly popular. This is evidenced by recent scientific works, as well as the various competitions organised on this topic. Therefore, in this work we present a system for automatic fruit counting using UAVs. To detect them, our solution uses a vision algorithm that processes streams from an RGB camera and a depth sensor using classical image operations. Our system also allows the planning and execution of flight trajectories, taking into account the minimisation of flight time and distance covered. We tested the proposed solution in simulation and obtained an average score of 87.27/100 points from a total of 500 missions. We also submitted it to the UAV Competition organised as part of the ICUAS 2024 conference, where we achieved an average score of 84.83/100 points, placing 6th in a field of 23 teams and advancing to the finals. © 2025, CC BY.

Multiphase LLC Resonant Converter with Natural Current Sharing and Phase-Shedding

The multiphase LLC converter is commonly used for high-power and high step-down applications. However, the tolerances in the tank circuit parameters cause uneven current sharing (CS), reducing system reliability. Additionally, phase-shedding (PS) can improve converter efficiency at partial load by turning-OFF phases. This paper proposes a multiphase input-parallel output-parallel LLC resonant converter with a common inductor-capacitor branch, with the objective to achieve excellent CS and phase-shedding at the same time. Thanks to the shared branch, current-sharing is natural, and phase-shedding is realized without affecting the operating point. With fewer passive comp- onents and a simple phase connection, the design offers low-cost, high-power density, and improved light-load efficiency compared to existing solutions. Detailed analysis shows improved CS on both the primary and secondary sides, when compared to previous approaches. Simulation and experimental results for the proposed two-phase LLC resonant converter validate the analysis and illustrate the effectiveness of the CS and PS capabilities. At the rated load of 800 W, CS error is 2.48% on the primary side and 2.0% on the secondary side. Phase-shedding improves efficiency by 3.60% at 50% load and 6.82% at 25% load. © 1972-2012 IEEE.
