This paper describes a formation of hybrid coatings on a Ti-2Ta-3Zr-36Nb *** is accomplished by plasma electrolytic oxidation and a dip-coating technique with poly(adipic anhydride)((C6H8O3)n)that is loaded with drugs:amoxicillin(C16H19N3O5S),cefazolin(C14H14N8O4S3)or vancomycin(C66H75Cl2N9O24·xHCl).The characteristic microstructure of the polymer was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy and confocal *** on the surface treatment,the surface roughness varied(between 1.53μm and 2.06μm),and the wettability was change with the over of time.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that the oxide layer did not affect the polymer layer or loaded ***,the drugs lose their stability in a phosphate-buffered saline solution after 6.5 h of exposure,and its decrease was greater than 7%(HPLC analysis).The stability,drug release and concentration of the drug loaded into the material were precisely analyzed by high-performance liquid *** results correlated with the degradation of the polymer in which the addition of drugs caused the percent of degraded polymer to be between 35.5%and 49.4%after 1 h of material immersion,depending on the mass of the loaded drug and various biological responses that were ***,all of the coatings were cytocompatible with MG-63 osteoblast-like *** drug concentrations released from the coatings were sufficient to inhibit adhesion of reference and clinical bacterial strains(***).The coatings with amoxicillin showed the best results in the bacterial inhibition zone,whereas coatings with cefazolin inhibited adhesion of the above bacteria on the surface.

Data-Driven Nonconvex Reachability Analysis using Exact Multiplication

This paper addresses a fundamental challenge in data-driven reachability analysis: accurately representing and propagating non-convex reachable sets. We propose a novel approach using constrained polynomial zonotopes to describe reachable sets for unknown LTI systems. Unlike constrained zonotopes commonly used in existing literature, constrained polynomial zonotopes are closed under multiplication with constrained matrix zonotopes. We leverage this property to develop an exact multiplication method that preserves the non-convex geometry of reachable sets without resorting to approximations. We demonstrate that our approach provides tighter over-approximations of reachable sets for LTI systems compared to conventional methods. © 2025, CC BY.

Flatness-Based Model Predictive control with Linear Programming for a Single Mast Stacker Crane

This paper deals with a trajectory tracking model predictive control for a single mast stacker crane, which is used for automatic storage or retrieval of payloads in automated warehouses. The mathematical model of the plant is a distributed parameter one, but it admits an excellent approximation by a flat lumped parameter system. The approximate nonlinear system is simplified further and the resulting linear time-varying system is implemented to design a model predictive controller. To provide an efficient formulation of an optimization task for the controller, the LTV-model is parametrized by a special flat output. Then, the model predictive control is formulated in the form of a linear program. For solving the derived linear program, an open-source optimal solver LP_SOLVE is chosen. To reduce a mechanical stress at clamping of a mast and an overall accessibility time, a special optimal trajectory calculated offline is chosen for the tracking by the designed controller. Finally, the simulation results of the nonlinear approximate model, subjected to model uncertainties and external disturbances, with the designed model predictive controller are presented. © 2018

Fabrication grammars: bridging design and robotics to control emergent material expressions

Designers physically engage with a material to experience how certain characteristics allow the fabrication of unique expressions. In digital fabrication, however, this improvisational negotiation is typically replaced by a virtual simulation that predicts how a material expression can be fabricated, limiting the resulting design language to algorithmic forms. In contrast, we believe that digital fabrication can also produce ‘emergent’ material expressions that are so confounded that they appear slightly differently even when being produced by identical operations. This paper argues that such expressions can be executed by a domain-driven feedback paradigm, which integrates a human-in-the-loop to encode the tacit fabrication knowledge that is generated by reviewing intermediate outcomes. We encode this tacit knowledge by fabrication grammars, rule-based descriptions that causally relate fabrication parameters to qualitative descriptions of material expressions. By documenting a set of Single Point Incremental Forming experiments, this paper demonstrates how emergent material expressions can be controlled by semantically meaningful fabrication grammars, which even can be combined towards purposeful design goals. We believe our findings might allow the digital fabrication of material expressions that appear to have been produced manually or naturally; and support the future sharing of tacit fabrication knowledge.

II. The effect of axisymmetric and spatially varying equilibria and flow on mhd wave modes: Cylindrical geometry

Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves are routinely observed in the solar atmosphere. These waves are important in the context of solar physics as it is widely believed they can contribute to the energy budget of the solar atmosphere and are a prime candidate to contribute towards coronal heating. Realistic models of these waves are required representing observed configurations such that plasma properties can be determined more accurately which can not be measured directly. This work utilises a previously developed numerical technique to find permittable eigenvalues under different non-uniform equilibrium conditions in a Cartesian magnetic slab geometry. Here we investigate the properties of magnetoacoustic waves under nonuniform equilibria in a cylindrical geometry. Previously obtained analytical results are retrieved to emphasise the power and applicability of this numerical technique. Further case studies investigate the effect that a radially non-uniform plasma density and non-uniform plasma flow, modelled as a series of Gaussian profiles, has on the properties of different MHD waves. For all cases the dispersion diagrams are obtained and spatial eigenfunctions calculated which display the effects of the equilibrium inhomogeneity. It is shown that as the equilibrium non-uniformity is increased, the radial spatial eigenfunctions are affected and extra nodes introduced, similar to the previous investigation of a magnetic slab. Furthermore, azimuthal perturbations are increased with increasing inhomogeneity introducing vortical motions inside the waveguide. Finally, 2D and 3D representations of the velocity fields are shown which may be useful for observers for wave mode identification under realistic magnetic waveguides with ever increasing instrument resolution. © 2021, CC BY.

Grain size determination and classification using adaptive image segmentation with grain shape information for milling quality evaluation

In this paper, authors described methods of material granularity evaluation and a novel method for grain size determination with inline electromagnetic mill device diagnostics. The milling process quality evaluation can be carried out with vibration measurements, analysis of the milling material images or well-known screening machines. The method proposed in this paper is developed to the online examination of the milled product during the milling process using real-time digital images. In this paper, authors concentrated their work on copper ore milling process. Determination of the total number of the grain, the size of each grain, also the classification of the grains are the main goal of the developed method. In the proposed method the vision camera with lightning mounted at two assumed angles has been used. The detection of the grains has been based on an adaptive segmentation algorithm, improved with distance transform to enhance grains detection. The information about particles shape and context is used to optimize the grain classification process in the next step. The final classification is based on the rule-based method with defined particle shape and size parameters.

Data-driven control against false data injection attacks

The rise of cyber-security concerns has brought significant attention to the analysis and design of cyber–physical systems (CPSs). Among the various types of cyberattacks, denial-of-service (DoS) attacks and false data injection (FDI) attacks can be easily launched and have become prominent threats. While resilient control against DoS attacks has received substantial research efforts, countermeasures developed against FDI attacks have been relatively limited, particularly when explicit system models are not available. To address this gap, the present paper focuses on the design of data-driven controllers for unknown linear systems subject to FDI attacks on the actuators, utilizing input-state data. To this end, a general FDI attack model is presented, which imposes minimally constraints on the switching frequency of attack channels and the magnitude of attack matrices. A dynamic state feedback control law is designed based on offline and online input-state data, which adapts to the channel switching of FDI attacks. This is achieved by solving two data-based semi-definite programs (SDPs) on-the-fly to yield a tight approximation of the set of subsystems consistent with both offline clean data and online attack-corrupted data. It is shown that under mild conditions on the attack, the proposed SDPs are recursively feasible and controller achieves exponential stability. Numerical examples showcase its effectiveness in mitigating the impact of FDI attacks.

Principal component hierarchy for sparse quadratic programs

We propose a novel approximation hierarchy for cardinality-constrained, convex quadratic programs that exploits the rank-dominating eigenvectors of the quadratic matrix. Each level of approximation admits a min-max characterization whose objective function can be optimized over the binary variables analytically, while preserving convexity in the continuous variables. Exploiting this property, we propose two scalable optimization algorithms, coined as the "best response" and the "dual program", that can efficiently screen the potential indices of the nonzero elements of the original program. We show that the proposed methods are competitive with the existing screening methods in the current sparse regression literature, and it is particularly fast on instances with high number of measurements in experiments with both synthetic and real datasets. © 2021, CC BY.
