Millimeter wave (mmWave) technology can achieve high-speed communication due to the large available spectrum. Furthermore, the use of directional beams in mmWave system provides a natural defense against physical layer security attacks. In practice, however, the beams are imperfect due to mmWave hardware limitations such as the low-resolution of the phase shifters. These imperfections in the beam pattern introduce an energy leakage that can be exploited by an eavesdropper. To defend against such eavesdropping attacks, we propose a directional modulation-based defense technique where the transmitter applies random circulant shifts of a beamformer. We show that the use of random circulant shifts together with appropriate phase adjustment induces artificial phase noise (APN) in the directions different from that of the target receiver. Our method corrupts the phase at the eavesdropper without affecting the communication link of the target receiver. We also experimentally verify the APN induced due to circulant shifts, using channel measurements from a 2-bit mmWave phased array testbed. Using simulations, we study the performance of the proposed defense technique against a greedy eavesdropping strategy in a vehicle-to-infrastructure scenario. The proposed technique achieves better defense than the antenna subset modulation, without compromising on the communication link with the target receiver. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. Gaussian process repetitive control for suppressing spatial disturbances

Motion systems are often subject to disturbances such as cogging, commutation errors, and imbalances, that vary with velocity and appear periodic in time for constant operating velocities. The aim of this paper is to develop a repetitive controller (RC) for disturbances that are not periodic in the time domain, yet occur due to an identical position-domain disturbance. A new spatial RC framework is developed, allowing to attenuate disturbances that are periodic in the position domain but manifest a-periodic in the time domain. A Gaussian process (GP) based memory is employed with a suitable periodic kernel that can effectively deal with the intermittent observations inherent to the position domain. Nowadays, with the vigorous development of smart grids, cascaded H-bridge solid-state transformers (CHB-SST) used in distribution network systems have gradually become an important research hotspot. The multiport CHB-SST serves as the interfacing device to interconnect different grids, which has the functions of bidirectional, power flow control, reactive power compensation, and voltage regulation. However, the power fluctuation of the power cells should be constrained by the large capacitors which in turn worsens the system power density. The second order current in the DC-link side of the CHB-SST will cause the fluctuation of the submodule (SM) capacitor voltage, affecting the capacitance value selection. Therefore, this paper proposes a method to suppress the SM capacitor voltage fluctuation of CHB-SST through fluctuating power control strategy. The control scheme passes the second order current component of the SM capacitor to the low-voltage side of the CHB-SST to reduce the voltage fluctuation of the SM capacitor, such that the capacitance can be optimized. The proposed method is verified via the MATLAB/Simulink model, proving that the fluctuation of the SM capacitor voltage can be effectively suppressed. © 2021 IET Conference Proceedings. For semilinear parabolic PDE systems, the sampled-data observer (SDO) design under spatially point measurements (SPMs) with exponential time-varying gains is concerned. On basis of a Lyapunov functional, a SDO with exponential time-varying gains under SPMs via linear matrix inequalities is presented to guarantee the exponential stability of estimation error PDE system. Lastly, two numerical examples are provided to support the proposed SDO design approach. © 2021 IEEE

Chimera states are dynamical states where regions of synchronous trajectories coexist with incoherent ones. A significant amount of research has been devoted to study chimera states in systems of identical oscillators, non-locally coupled through pairwise interactions. Nevertheless, there is an increasing evidence, also supported by available data, that complex systems are composed by multiple units experiencing many-body interactions, that can be modeled by using higher-order structures beyond the paradigm of classic pairwise networks. In this work we investigate whether phase chimera states appear in this framework, by focusing on a novel topology solely involving many-body, non-local and non-regular interactions, hereby named non-local d-hyperring, being (d + 1) the order of the interactions. We present the theory by using the paradigmatic Stuart-Landau oscillators as node dynamics, and show that phase chimera states emerge in a variety of structures and with different coupling functions. For comparison, we show that, when higher-order interactions are"flattened" to pairwise ones, the chimera behavior is weaker and more elusive. © 2023, CC BY.

Operators of forest machinery suffer from intensive whole body vibrations, which are big threats to their health. Therefore, it is important to investigate effective seat undercarriages and control methods for vibration reduction. This paper addresses the control problem of a novel seat undercarriage with pneumatic actuators customized for forest machinery. A two-layer cascade control structure is developed, where the top layer consists of a group of proportional controllers to regulate the position of pneumatic actuators and the bottom layer is a sliding mode controller for force and stiffness tracking. The advantage of the sliding mode control is to achieve robust control performance with coarse system models. The paper demonstrates that the proposed control structure is better than a traditional PID controller. The robust stability of the sliding mode controller is proved by the Lyapunov's method. Experiments show its capability of reducing at least 20% amplitude of seat vibrations from 0.5 to 1 Hz. © 2019 Chinese automatic control Society and John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd

The asymptotic phase is a fundamental quantity for the analysis of deterministic limit-cycle oscillators, and generalized definitions of the asymptotic phase for stochastic oscillators have also been proposed. In this article, we show that the asymptotic phase and also amplitude can be defined for classical and semiclassical stochastic oscillators in a natural and unified manner by using the eigenfunctions of the Koopman operator of the system. We show that the proposed definition gives appropriate values of the phase and amplitude for strongly stochastic limit-cycle oscillators, excitable systems undergoing noise-induced oscillations, and also for quantum limit-cycle oscillators in the semiclassical regime. Nowadays, it is urgent to develop a new generation of active RC filters, which allow for independent tuning of the critical parameters. This makes it easier to build new devices. The paper considers the generalized architecture of a new population of active RC band-pass filters (ARCFs) in which the independent adjustment of the critical parameters in the pass band is possible. As an example the equations for the transfer functions and their coefficients for two new ARCF modifications are given, which allow for the parametric synthesis of the definite design solutions. The results of modeling in the Micro-CAP program are discussed, confirming the advantages of the ARCFs of the considered family. © 2020 IEEE.

Each IT service tends to solve its specific task with some predefined level of quality. In addition, providers of such services assure end users with some quality level according to the bucket user has bought. However, in order to provide those services at stated level it is important to know which kind of IT infrastructure does the provider use and which mathematical models can be applied to the hardware functioning, which is used for creating IT infrastructure. This article suggests using of artificial neural networks for classification and forecasting problems, which appear in IT infrastructure during provisioning of IT services. This can be made with indirect connection between IT resources usage and quality of service. Each IT service can have its own quality, which can be evaluated based on subjective and objective indicators of their performance. General problem, which can be solved in scope of the topic, is regression prediction problem, which can be perfectly solved with the use of neural networks. This paper presents neural network approach with decomposed groups of quality indicators, which implies breaking down IT infrastructure into hierarchical levels and defining quality indicators on each level with the further use of multilayer perceptron and recurrent neural network. Experimental results were compared with each other and have proven their effectiveness. The advantage of the use of neural networks in proposed problem is in small decline of predicted results from actual data. © 2019 IEEE.

The paper proposes a mathematical model of a three-phase induction motor with an asymmetrical twelve-zone winding of stator with parallel connection of subwindings. The mathematical model was developed using the theory of generalized electromechanical converter and contains equations of electrical equilibrium of six stator windings and three rotor windings. The equations for calculating the electromagnetic moment and the equations of motion of the induction motor with an asymmetrical twelve-zone stator winding rotor were obtained. The developed mathematical model in the form of cell-matrix equations has been implemented in MATLAB/Simulink.
