Frailty is a clinical syndrome prevalent among the older population, characterized by unintentional weight loss, exhaustion being associated with a decline in cognitive and physiological functions. Ambient Assisted Living can be used for coping through solutions based on smart devices that help older people to cope with frailty. In this paper, we present a quantitative research to determine the user requirements for developing a system to assist people with frailty. © 2021 IEEE.

This study proposes methods that can be used to examine and interpret comments that users have made after watching videos on YouTube on a particular topic. YouTube tutorials are very popular among young people. They have become an important pillar in informal education, thus contributing to the rapid acquisition of skills and knowledge. Under these circumstances, we were interested in analysing the YouTube videos comments, knowing that the platform has a continuous increase in popularity, which is also due to the opportunities of sharing them. Since ChatGPT-themed YouTube videos have seen a significant surge in popularity since 2022, we were interested to analyse some videos that approach the topics of “ChatGPT, AI clone, AI robot and Deep Learning.”

In recent years, the rising levels of atmospheric particulate matter (PM) have an impact on the earth’s system, leading to undesirable consequences on various aspects like human health, visibility, and climate. The present work is carried out over an insufficiently studied but polluted urban area of Peshawar, which lies at the foothills of the famous Himalaya and Karakorum area, Northern Pakistan. The particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 10 µm, i.e., PM10 are collected and analyzed for mineralogical, morphological, and chemical properties. Diverse techniques were used to examine the PM10 samples, for instance, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy along with energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, proton-induced x-ray emission, and an OC/EC carbon analyzer. The 24 h average PM10 mass concentration along with standard deviation was investigated to be 586.83 ± 217.70 µg/m3, which was around 13 times greater than the permissible limit of the world health organization (45 µg/m3) and 4 times the Pakistan national environmental quality standards for ambient PM10 (150 µg/m3). Minerals such as crystalline silicate, carbonate, asbestiform minerals, sulfate, and clay minerals were found using FTIR and XRD investigations. Microscopic examination revealed particles of various shapes, including angular, flaky, rod-like, crystalline, irregular, rounded, porous, chain, spherical, and agglomeration structures. This proved that the particles had geogenic, anthropogenic, and biological origins. The average value of organic carbon, elemental carbon, and total carbon is found to be 91.56 ± 43.17, 6.72 ± 1.99, and 102.41 ± 44.90 µg/m3, respectively. Water-soluble ions K+ and OC show a substantial association (R = 0.71). The global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) play a vital role in transport systems for accurate and consistent vehicle localization. However, GNSS observations can be distorted due to multipath effects and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) receptions in challenging environments such as urban canyons. In such cases, traditional methods to classify and exclude faulty GNSS observations may fail, leading to unreliable state estimation and unsafe system operations. This work proposes a deep-learning-based method to detect NLOS receptions and predict GNSS pseudorange errors by analyzing GNSS observations as a spatio-temporal modeling problem. Compared to previous works, we construct a transformer-like attention mechanism to enhance the long short-term memory (LSTM) networks, improving model performance and generalization. For the training and evaluation of the proposed network, we used labeled datasets from the cities of Hong Kong and Aachen. We also introduce a dataset generation process to label the GNSS observations using lidar maps. In experimental studies, we compare the proposed network with a deep-learning-based model and classical machine-learning models. Furthermore, we conduct ablation studies of our network components and integrate the NLOS detection with data out-of-distribution in a state estimator. As a result, our network presents improved precision and recall ratios compared to other models. Additionally, we show that the proposed method avoids trajectory divergence in real-world vehicle localization by classifying and excluding NLOS observations. © 2023, CC BY.

In this article, a nonlinear strategy based on a flatness approach is used for controlling the instantaneous complex power supplied from the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) to a weak grid. To this end, the strategy introduced by the authors in [1] considering a strong grid is robustified for avoiding system instability when the converter is connected to an unknown grid. The robustification method consists of including a notch filter that estimates the PCC voltage and using it to build the controller (i.e. the measured PCC voltage used to design the control strategy for a strong grid is replaced by the PCC voltage estimated with the notch filter). In addition, before designing the controller, the steady-state stability and safe operation limits when injecting complex instantaneous power to a grid of unknown impedance are analyzed. This analysis is independent of the control strategy, and applies to all power injection schemes. In this work, a non-linear controller designed using non-linear transformation linearization and feedback is proposed for an inverter connected to a weak grid through a single-stage inductive filter. The proposed strategy is self-synchronized, so that it is not necessary to have a voltage sensor at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC). The strategy allows to robustify, in the presence of a weak grid, a strategy that has already been demonstrated to allow a significant reduction in the size of the DC-link capacitor of the converter. For this purpose, a state observer is designed that allows estimating the voltage at the PCC from the measurement of the output inductor current. A start-up controller is also included, which allows synchronization even in the case of system start-up. Simulation results are presented for different operating cases, including start-up, normal operation, and grid-voltage sags and swells. In all these cases, it is considered that the exact parameters of the grid to which the inverter is connected are unknown. © 2024, CC BY-SA.

In this paper smoothing filters were applied in order to improve inverted pendulum’s movement trajectory. The filtering was implemented in order to remove some signals’ artifacts. The authors tested various classical filters such as Savitzky-Golay and median filters. This contribution deals with identification of bioimpedance spectroscopy parameters for implementation on embedded platforms. The paper’s goal is to present method which is suitable for implementation in microcontrollers or field programmable gate arrays. The paper brings brief description of the state of the art and it reviews an equivalent electrical model and the least squares method as background of the work. In experimental part, the author presenting an experimental setup for data acquisition for electrical model and an identification approach including the implementation details of calculation of inverse matrix. In the result section the comparison between real and identified parameters is presenting and the results are evaluated in terms of accuracy. The proposed method can be considered as precise identification for the particular electrical model. The paper conclusion includes discussion about method accuracy and brief outline for future work. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.

Black soldier fly (BSF) larvae (Hermetia illucens) are a valuable protein source for manufacturing animal feed. To maximize their production, both the quantity and quality of their reproductive cycle, i.e. egg production during oviposition, must be increased. In artificial environments, flies often sit idle in cages without mating, depleting their energy reserves and resulting in lower egg production per female. By controlling environmental conditions such as temperature and light inside breeding cages, the flies may be stimulated in a way that improves egg output. However, this stimulation increases the energy demand of the process and may stress the flies, resulting in reduced egg production. Therefore, control must be applied in a careful way, which requires knowledge of the egg production cycle. In this work, a mathematical model describing the various fly life stages and their transition to the egg production process is developed. Relevant factors are identified and their effect on the fly life and egg production is mathematically described. Parameters are identified using data from literature and goodness of fit is evaluated. Using the model, an optimal control problem is formulated with the goal of minimizing the energy costs and increasing the egg production quantity. In Simulation, our approach showed 13% higher output in shorter time at reduced energy costs compared to a (standard) constant setpoint approach.
