Ambient Intelligence is an active research field that studies embed- ding computing elements into the environment - Weiser's concept of disap- pearing computer. Practical experiments are complex to orchestrate, because of the technical expertise required in hardware, software engineering and machine learning. The entry barrier for running such an experiment is very high, requiring coordinated e orts at all levels in a research team, and an actual laboratory with sensors in order to collect the data. In this work, we show how the power of Amazon's EC2 cloud can be lever- aged in conjunction with a record and replay system for sensor data in order to allow researchers from anywhere in the world to run such experiments. The software infrastructure used for the experiments is open-source and freely available at https: // github. com/ ami-lab/ AmI-Platform . This platform is used in the AmI Laboratory (EF 210) of the University Po- litehnica of Bucharest.

In this paper we propose an effective method of aerial image classification, which combines three types of features: color-based, statistical and fractal information. Two distinct phases were necessary for the CBIR system, which includes the classification algorithm: the learning phase and the classification phase. In the learning phase 5 different and efficient features were selected: entropy, contrast, homogeneity, mass fractal dimension and lacunarity. Also, three categories (classes) in CBIR were considered. The method of comparison, based on sub-images, improves the texture-based classification. A set of 100 aerial images from UAV was tested for establishing the rate of classification. The rate of 96% accurate classification, obtained as result, confirms the efficiency of the proposed method.

The paper presents details on the development of an intelligent system for particulate matter (PM) air pollution monitoring, analysis and forecasting in two pilot cities, Ploiesti and Targoviste, in selected areas near schools, kindergartens and pediatric hospitals. The main purpose of the system is to provide expert early warnings to protect children with health problems. An in-situ PM10, PM2.5 monitoring network was designed and an online PM2.5 monitoring network is under development for each city. Two case studies of PM air pollution analysis and forecast for the Ploiesti city are described. The PM air pollution analysis, forecasting, and children health impact analysis were made by using techniques from statistics and artificial intelligence. © 2015 IEEE.

This paper describes the application of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference architecture for supporting the diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation. The fuzzy system has been trained with the backpropagation gradient descent method in combination with the least squares method. A total of 38 patients have been divided into training and testing data sets. The performance of the fuzzy model has been evaluated in terms of classification accuracies and the results of the simulation confirmed that the proposed fuzzy approach has potential in supporting the diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation. © 2015 IEEE.

Agents aimed at accomplishing task specific goals require reasoning and learning capabilities;their internal architecture is built using artificial intelli- gence techniques like problem solving, knowledge representation or planning. But agents aimed at interacting with human users are expected to know more than that: they need to show believable behavior and social abilities. Emotions, with their influence on behavior and cognitive processes, are able to provide the required abilities. We believe that modeling human emotional mechanisms as faithfully as possible makes an agent suitable for performing in a human-agent interaction en- vironment. In this paper we present such an architecture, which aims at modeling the human affective mechanisms of primary and secondary emotions, personality and resource usage. The agent is integrated in a human-agent interaction sce- nario, showing how its affect infuences its behavior and the activities during a lesson in an e-learning system.

The e-Healthcare system can be improved greatly by involving of latest information technology. However now in absent and developing nations, conventional sheet built a system that applied in healthcare. In the sector of healthcare besides other business fields, cloud computing is evolving as a new computing model. Among the developing countries, Iraq is attempting to change to electronic health records utilizing services of cloud computing. Cloud computing is the emerging technology can be utilized to build up a composite network to enhance the system. Therefore, this paper recommended a model of designing flexible e-healthcare management system based on Cloud Computing and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Cloud and SOA are becoming ubiquitous nowadays. However, their applications are deployed in this area and desired to appear various period stringent also workable conditions. The suggested system has been improved and includes various fractions to develop healthcare system. Rich Internet Application (RIA) based on the client side, simple database cloud server and application side leads to achieving a scheme that creates a readily attainable network. Finally, the system proposed improves cost management, time, storing patients profile and taking the right doctor decision.

We give explicit analytic formulas for computing the L2 norm of a discrete-time generalised system whose rational transfer matrix function may be improper or polynomial. The norm is expressed in terms of solutions of generalized Lyapunov equations, written down with coefficients from a special type of realisation of the underlying transfer function matrix, much in the same spirit of the standard (proper) case. The main result hints to a numerically-sound prototype algorithm that relies on standard reliable software for computing solutions of generalised Lyapunov equations. © 2014 IEEE.

As a cost-effective option for Cloud consumers, spot service has been considered to be a significant supplement for building a full-fledged market economy for the Cloud ecosystem. However, unlike the static and straightforward way of trading on-demand and reserved Cloud services, the market-driven regulations of employing spot service could be too complicated for Cloud consumers to comprehensively understand. In particular, it would be both difficult and tedious for potential consumers to determine suitable bids from time to time. To reduce the complexity in applying spot resources, we propose to use a feedback control to help make bidding decisions. Based on an arccotangent-function-type system model, our novel bidding mechanism imitates fuzzy and intuitive human activities to refine and issue new bids according to previous errors. The validation is conducted by using Amazon's historical spot price trace to perform a set of simulations and comparisons. The result shows that the feedback control-based mechanism obtains a better trade-off between bidding rationality and success rate than the other five comparable strategies. Although this mechanism is only for black-box bidding (price prediction) at this current stage, it can be conveniently and gradually upgraded to take into account external constraints in the future.

Nowadays, time is a very valuable resource and can make the difference between life and death. Having knowledge about this fact we decided to deal with one of the most important aspects of contemporary medicine, EMS (emergency medical services) response time. Modern systems that encourage intelligent communication methods between medical devices and doctors are a must in ubiquitous health care environments. Auxilum Medicine fosters a triple-win situation regarding the relationship between medical institutions, doctors and patients. Emergency patients should be treated with utmost care because their life is hanging by a thread if nobody is present to take immediate action. We are presenting a platform which enables doctors to simultaneously monitor a large number of patients from different physical locations. By receiving real time notifications, medical history, prevention alarms directly to any network connected devices (mobile phones, tablets, desktops, notebooks, smart watches, etc.), the medical staff can act promptly, exactly when and where it is needed in order to save human lives. Our solution's architecture allows gathering data from any medical signal processing unit and sends it straight to the cloud using encrypted communication protocols. What makes Auxilum Medicine unique refers to the cloud integration with hospital departments' structure, awareness of different medical staff roles and capabilities, privacy data interest, updates sent to patient's relatives as well as a modern responsive adaptive user interface. As a part of our experiment, aimed for testing our platform's capabilities, we have built a biomedical wireless sensor wearable device that provides real-time parameters (temperature and heart rate). Such a system favors medical equipment real time monitoring by using cloud services and permanently keeps alive the link between doctors and their patients, drastically increasing the EMS response time.

This paper presents a thorough analysis of the behavior of a bio-inspired model to care for casualties in a disaster. The model was proposed by the authors in a previous paper and a simulation based on it was performed and evaluated. Here, we analyze the evolution of the system and the impact that various model parameters can have over it. Once the behavior is well understood, we can then focus our research on certain groups of parameter adjustments so that with a minimum implementation cost to achieve a maximum benefit in terms of saved lives.
