Sandboxing is a popular technique that is used for safely executing untested code or testing un-trusted programs inside a secure environment. It can be employed at the operating system level or at the application level. In addition, it limits the level of access requested by the untested programs in the operating system by running them inside a secure environment. Therefore, any malicious or improperly coded programs that are aiming to damage hardware or software recourses will be prevented by the sandboxing. In this paper, we want to assess the effect of sandboxing on the system’s recourses utilization. We will examine and evaluate the operating system performance with Sandboxie, Bufferzone and Returnil sandboxes applications. Different performance parameters are considered, such as the execution time by the CPU for each sandbox and the read/write speed for various input output devices like memory and disks. Moreover, it is important to highlight that we have evaluated the mentioned sandboxing applications under the effect of having a virus that is attacking the operating system. We defined our own performance metrics that contain the most important parameters used in evaluating the related research work. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2015.

Chaos studies all that is messy, disorganized and incoherent;mathematically the chaos is a dynamic system governed by nonlinear differential equations. Chaos has an unpredictable behavior;its dynamical is very sensitive to the initial conditions. Atypical chaotic system is the atmosphere;this limits the knowledge about its behavior;but with the advance in the computers, the results that are obtained with the chaos theory improved significantly;the description of atmosphera and its results have extended to other fields of the science, as the economy, health and others. The object of this work was to determine the atmospheric dynamics in the Riobamba city using the theory of chaos, with meteorological data of the meteorological station of the ESPOCH of one year (2010) of data that were processed with model TISEAN. The results determine a hyperchaotic system, according to the coefficients of Lyapunov.

In this paper we study the problem of computing the (family of) reduced order model(s) that satisfy the following properties the systems match the moments of the given to be reduced system and the same property holds for the first order derivatives of the corresponding transfer functions. We prove that such a model exists and compute it. We also study the problem of moment matching for the state-space representations of the first order derivatives of rational transfer functions. Finally, we show that the model that matches the moment of both the given system and its first order derivative is a member of the family of reduced order models whose first order derivatives achieve moment matching.

This work concerns with the improvement of industrial process performance by integration of MES and automation tools. The strength of MES and weakness of paper work system have been explained. Managing the relations between production execution with other effective activities (e.g. quality, maintenance, inventory ...etc.) in production management has been introduced. The aim of the present work is to reduce the gap between manufactures expertise and IT expertise and also reduces paper work drawbacks and its side effect on production execution management operation. A design of MES has been proposed and implemented over El-Araby Plastic Injection Molding (PIM) factory as a case study. The results show that MES is beneficial.

This paper describes the application of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference architecture for supporting the diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation. The fuzzy system has been trained with the backpropagation gradient descent method in combination with the least squares method. A total of 38 patients have been divided into training and testing data sets. The performance of the fuzzy model has been evaluated in terms of classification accuracies and the results of the simulation confirmed that the proposed fuzzy approach has potential in supporting the diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation.

An artificial vision solution for reusing discarded parts resulted after a manufacturing process

The profit of a factory can be improved by reusing the discarded components produced. This paper is based on the case of a manufacturing process where rectangular metallic sheets of different sizes are produced. Using an artificial vision system, the shapes and the sizes of the produced parts can be determined. Those sheets which do not respect the requirements imposed are labeled as discarded. Instead of throwing these parts, a decision algorithm can analyze if another metallic sheet with smaller dimensions can be obtained from these. Two methods of decision are presented in this paper, considering the restriction that the sides of the new sheet has to be parallel with the axis of the coordinate system. The coordinates of each new part obtained from a discarded sheet are computed in order to be delivered to a milling machine. Details about implementing these algorithms (image processing and decision respectively) in the MATLAB environment using Image Processing Toolbox are given.

Project-based learning is widely used in various academic fields. Nevertheless, software engineering projects have a special statute due to their interdisciplinary features. Unlike other academic disciplines, software engineering requires knowledge from diverse engineering areas, but also from system modeling and design, business domain, communication. In order to maximize the learning benefits and to facilitate obtaining successful projects, the teacher has to be actively involved in all the phases of the project life cycle, including team formation. This article presents a new application which implements the collaborative learning paradigm through project-based learning in software engineering. The model automates the process of optimal grouping of students in teams based on a skill inventory created by the teacher. The collected answers related to students’ skills will help the teacher to built the most equilibrate groups in one's class. The grouping is made taking into account various criteria. Once groups are formed, students can collaborate by chatting in the project's forum or by attaching additional files to their project. Preliminary results are provided and discussed in the context of various groupware tools.

This paper presents a new content based image retrieval (CBIR) approach, which makes use of descriptors originating in the local and global search spaces. The algorithms extracts four colour descriptors, one texture descriptor and two local descriptors which are used to train the corresponding classifiers, based on neural networks. Subsequently, the classifiers are grouped in two weighted majority voting modules, for local and global characteristics. The system is tested on regular images and on document scans obtained from two datasets used a benchmarks in previous conferences, in order to verify the architecture robustness. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model. © 2014 CSREA Press.

It is well known that the process of tuning a fuzzy logic controller is almost always a very complex task, which is time consuming, very laborious and often requires expert knowledge of the controlled system. Mapping of fuzzy logic controller's parameters (rule base and membership functions of input(s) and output(s)) into a performance measure in a closed analytical form is near impossible to get, and thus the use of any classical optimization method is automatically ruled out. Knowing this, genetic algorithms with a fitness function in a form of cumulative response error represent a good choice of the optimization method. This approach enables the use of offline optimization of membership functions' parameters (which are being coded into chromosomes). Sugeno-Takagi fuzzy logic controllers with a proportional and a derivative component, and also with a fixed rule base are used in this approach. Experimental results of both simulations and validations on real systems are given in this paper and they show the good performance of this approach. © 2014 IEEE.
