In this paper is presented a comparative analysis between two power conditioners connected to a four-wire micro-grid. The first one was developed on a two levels voltage structure and the second one on a three-level voltage NPC structure (Neutral Point Clamped), both controlled by the same strategy. The main objective of the proposed strategy is to limit the disturbance produced by different loads. Another goal is to act as an interface between renewable energy sources and the micro-grid. In this study, about 25% of the power requested by the load comes from the renewable energy sources. The investigated systems have been implemented in Matlab / Simulink, in order to analyze the micro-grid harmonic level, the power factor and the voltage unbalance at the point of common coupling.

In this paper the 3-Dimensional Overhead Crane is the subject of study. The note includes the Euler-Lagrange equations of a 5 degrees of freedom, 5DOF, Overhead Crane and the design of a Second Order Sliding Mode controller in order to ensure the precise load transfer during the load movement despite of model uncertainties and un-modeled dynamics. Moreover, the system is under-actuated and 5DOF should be controlled with 3 control actions. The stability analysis is developed based on Lyapunov second method ensuring the finite time convergence to the desired sliding output. Simulations and Experimental results are presented.

This paper deals with the design process and the dynamic control simulation of a new type of 4-DOFs parallel mechanism that can be used as an endoscopie surgical manipulator. The proposed mechanism, 2-PUU 2PUS, is designed based on the screw theory and the parallel virtual chain type synthesis method. Based on the structure analysis of the 4-DOF parallel mechanism, the inverse position equation is studied using the inverse analysis theory of kinematics. The design and the stress analysis of the mechanism are investigated using SolidWorks software. The virtual prototype of the parallel mechanism is constructed, and the dynamic simulation is performed using ADAMS™ software. The system model utilizing PID and PI controllers has been built using MATLAB software. A more realistic simulation in accordance with a given bending angle and point to point control is implemented by the use of both ADAMS/MATLAB software. The simulation results showed that this control method has solved the coordinate control for the 4-DOF parallel manipulator so that each output is feedback to the four driving rods. From the results, the tracking performance is achieved. Other control techniques, such as intelligent ones, are recommended to improve the tracking performance and reduce the numerical truncation error. © 2012 IEEE.

In the case of a fault on electric power system line even basic frequency component of the fault current has rather complex form consisting of constant amplitude member and members with amplitudes attenuated with different time constants. Taking into account that there is a possibility to eliminate DC and harmonic components in electric signals during a fault in acceptable short time period, it was shown here that the rest of the signal can be used for (fast) line impedance calculation with acceptable accuracy. Calculations and testing based on here presented approach with real generator parameters and for all kinds of faults show that error in resulting impedance value was always less then 3%, qualifying the method as acceptable for technical applications. Method of faulted line impedance calculation was referred.

We present CasADi, a free, open-source software tool for fast, yet efficient solution of nonlinear optimization problems in general and dynamic optimization problems in particular. To the developer of algorithms for numerical optimization and to the advanced user of such algorithms, it offers a level of abstraction which is notably lower, and hence more flexible, than that of algebraic modeling languages such as AMPL or GAMS, but higher than working with a conventional automatic differentiation (AD) *** is best described as a minimalistic computer algebra system (CAS) implementing automatic differentiation in eight different flavors. Similar to algebraic modeling languages, it includes high-level interfaces to state-of-the-art numerical codes for nonlinear programming, quadratic programming and integration of differential-algebraic equations. CasADi is implemented in self-contained C++ code and contains full-featured front-ends to Python and Octave for rapid prototyping. In this paper, we present the AD framework of CasADi and benchmark the tool against AMPL for a set of nonlinear programming problems from the CUTEr test suite. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

In this paper is presented a hardware and software solution for controlling an electric-powered wheelchair for persons with disabilities. It was implemented an odometric system using two encoders and the programmable environment Matlab/Simulink, also it has been design an PI controller for the DC motors. It is also presented an obstacle avoidance system using an laser sensor. To verify the effectiveness of proposed solution, experiments were carried out. The wheelchair platform considered in this paper is a differential drive platform with two passive front caster wheels and two active rear wheels.

We present in this paper a design method for two-dimensional two-channel sparse nonseparable FIR filter banks using transformation of variables. In a first phase the transformation function is designed in a least-squares fashion. The second stage of the algorithm introduces the sparseness in a greedy manner by removing at each step the minimum coefficient of the filter in absolute value. The obtained results show that the sparse filter banks offer the possibility of choosing the complexity of the filters and have also better stopband energy.

The drilling process is one of the most extended machining processes in the manufacturing industry. However, the performance of this process can be importantly decreased due to the drill wear and even breakage. Concerning this, this paper presents a flexible software tool that provides the user of the drilling machine with information about the current regime of the drilling process. In particular, the application provides information related to the occurrence of both tool wear and material heterogeneities. © 2012 IFAC.

system model is very useful to study the response of a system for different input variations and for the control design schemes in both real time application and in the simulation. The concept of a model refers to entities varying from mathematical descriptions of a process to a replica of an actual system. The model of a boiler plant is derived and compared to the real plant response. In this paper the proportional and Integral (PI) controller applied for controlling the real and model of a boiler plant. The boiler plant model is derived based on the boiler plant dynamics. The experimental results show that the model developed able to represent the real boiler plant dynamic which proves by the similarity of the PI controller responses for both. © 2012 IEEE.

The goal of this paper was to develop a Simple Access Object Protocol (SOAP) Parlay X Web service interface that supports standard GSM modems and can be used as development and testing environment for SMS based applications. The service interface was translated into Java classes from a selected set of Parlay X version 2.1 Web Service Description Language (WSDL) files providing mandatory SMS functionality. SendSms, ReceiveSms, NotificationManager and SmsNotification Web services were fully implemented. Other Parlay X services (e. g. MMS, ringtone services and other) can be built in a similar fashion and easily integrated into the system architecture. The service backend was implemented using Java wrapper classes that mimic the described Web services, their datatypes and membership functions. The SIM300 GSM modem was used to transmit and receive SMS, while a MySQL database schema was used as interface between the modem and the service interface. Handler classes (also implemented in Java) were used as modem behaviour controller, while the database connection was established using the Java Database Connectivity classes provided by Oracle. Detailed system architecture, implemented Web services functionality, database structure and Message Sequence Charts are given. © 2012 MIPRO.
