This paper presents a new algorithm for approximating a nonlinear function by means of local models. It is proposed a memory-based technique for selecting the best model configuration by comparing different alternatives. A recursive technique for local model identification and validation is presented, together with an enhanced statistical method for model selection. The shapes and locations of receptive fields are changed in an adaptive manner. The learning capabilities are demonstrated by means of some examples.

Fuzzy logic control and fuzzy reasoning tuning procedures are used for speed and current controllers respectively. A digital signal processor (DSP) based hardware set-up and a specialized software environment are used to laboratory experiments. The paper presents a design of 3D simulator for 2DOF laboratory helicopter model (Humusoft CE 150) and its practical implementation in various controlsystem structures. The developed simulator provides testing performance of different control algorithms and visualization of results obtained. The 3D simulator has been designed and developed using the VRML programming language under the Virtual Reality toolbox in Matlab/Simulink. The effectiveness of this simulator are demonstrated during simulation and experiments on the 2DOF helicopter model using different control techniques, such as PID, adaptive gain scheduling and fuzzy controllers. A practical solution for counting traffic is analysed in this paper. The goal was to develop a solution that focuses on more CPU processing than on placing many complex sensors. This approach should reduce costs of both deployment and maintenance of such system. The proposed solution is to use video footage from a properly placed camera as input data. Vehicle movement is detected using optical flow algorithm. A great deal of post-processing is used to cope with problems that arise from this method of movement detection. Since the video of the entire crossroad is available, it is possible to fully analyse vehicle movement and produce turning movement counts and efficiently estimate (time varying) origin-destination trip tables if enough crossroads are monitored this way. The solution was developed in Simulink using Video and Image Processing Toolbox and custom blocks.

The paper presents a method of power optimization of the wind turbines by changing the pitch angle. There are analysed the structure and the performance of a electro-mechanical servomechanism used to put on position the wind turbine blades so that a maxim out power could be obtained at a given wind speed. Numerical simulations validated the applied method, and the results obtained are comparable with the ones from technical literature.

Business forecasting uses statistic tools more or less sophisticated that relay on the observation values from the past, regarding the activity level, and calculates predictions for the future. The majority of the methods can calculate forecast without any problem and with high accuracy when the data has a satisfying quality. This paper describes our results in implementing the forecast in general and highlights the cases with sporadic data, cases with a high forecasting need, that are common in real life.

A large number of scheduling algorithms for large scale distributed systems have been proposed, studied and compared. In spite of this, there are few studies comparing the performance of scheduling algorithms considering at the same time the distributed system structure on which we want to schedule the tasks; the type of directed acyclic graph (DAG), in which graph nodes represent tasks and graph edges represent data transfers; and the type of tasks, for example CPU-bound vs. I/O bound. This paper proposes a method for selecting, in a dynamic manner, the most appropriate scheduling algorithm for a particular distributed system, after a previous analysis. Choosing the best known scheduling algorithm can improve performance of an application if all the aspects previously enumerated are considered. The results of this paper consist in a comparison of the scheduling algorithms performance for the following scheduling algorithms: Modified Critical Path, Cluster ready Children First, Earliest Time First, Highest Level First with Estimated Times and Hybrid Remapper Minimum Partial Completion Time Static Priority. However, the main purpose of this investigation tests is to demonstrate the usefulness of the presented scheduling approach using these results.

This paper presents a distributed solution of the synchronization of Business Intelligence (BI) systems via networking services. The main problem addressed by the proposed project is to create a common solution that allows automatically redeploying of business intelligence applications among different servers located in the Internet. A case study by using the Microsoft BizTalk Server as a Business Intelligence system is presented included in a research project called PrO Processor. The research came as a necessity because of the lack of support for remote deployment of applications via Internet. Our solution overcomes this issue and presents the synchronization architecture capable of transporting, installing and starting BI applications, orchestrations and ports to any number of BI servers in the Internet.
