Marine structures like Floating Wind Turbine (FWT) is exposed to the oncoming waves and wind that can cause oscillatory motions within the system. These undesired oscillations can have negative impacts on the efficiency of the system, reduce its lifespan, hinder energy extraction, increase stress levels, and raise maintenance costs. To mitigate these negative impacts, the integration of Wave Energy Converters (WECs) into the FWT system has been proposed. This hybrid system may be capable of extracting coupled wind-wave energy and transferring electrical power to the shared grid. This paper presents an investigation of the use of Oscillating Water Columns (OWCs), a type of WECs, within a FWT system. The purpose of using an OWC is to increase the hydrodynamic damping and reduce the resonant motions of the floating wind turbines under environmental loads, including both wind and wave loads. This is because the wave energy from OWC would be very small as compared to the wind energy. However, OWCs can provide a damping source for reducing the resonant motions of the floater, especially the pitch resonant motions. This would be very beneficial for the power performance of the floating w ind turbine and the structural design of the floater. T he p urpose of this paper is to redesign the original FWT platform to accommodate the additional OWCs by considering the hydrostatic stability and hydrodynamics since the new elements, the OWCs, can significantly change the response of the platform. The redesign of the original FWT involves the integration of OWCs within two out of three columns of an existing semisubmersible platform for a 12 MW FWT. To do this, two moonpools, which are consistent with OWC air chambers, have been created within two columns of the FWT. The water ballast was designed for the columns with and without OWCs. This article presents a way to implement a collection of fitness moves on an iCub (Cognitive Universal Body) robot, whose objective is to act as a fitness instructor and interact with humans. Due to the advantages of a simulation medium, the robot is simulated in the Gazebo simulator, on The Construct online platform. The control is done using Robot Operating system (ROS) with PID controllers for the robot joints, with the proportional, integral and derivative parameters tuned using a Genetic Algorithm. The scripts for the collection of moves and the algorithm used to tune the PID controllers are written in Python.

automatic Term Recognition is used to extract domain-specific terms that belong to a given domain. In order to be accurate, these corpus and language-dependent methods require large volumes of textual data that need to be processed to extract candidate terms that are afterward scored according to a given metric. To improve text preprocessing and candidate terms extraction and scoring, we propose a distributed Spark-based architecture to automatically extract domain-specific terms. The main contributions are as follows: (1) propose a novel distributed automatic domain-specific multi-word term recognition architecture built on top of the Spark ecosystem; (2) perform an in-depth analysis of our architecture in terms of accuracy and scalability; (3) design an easy-to-integrate Python implementation that enables the use of Big Data processing in fields such as Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing. We prove empirically the feasibility of our architecture by performing experiments on two real-world datasets.

With the current shift in the mass media landscape from journalistic rigor to social media, personalized social media is becoming the new norm. Although the digitalization progress of the media brings many advantages, it also increases the risk of spreading disinformation, misinformation, and malformation through the use of fake news. The emergence of this harmful phenomenon has managed to polarize society and manipulate public opinion on particular topics, e.g., elections, vaccinations, etc. Such information propagated on social media can distort public perceptions and generate social unrest while lacking the rigor of traditional journalism. Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning techniques are essential for developing efficient tools that can detect fake news. Models that use the context of textual data are essential for resolving the fake news detection problem, as they manage to encode linguistic features within the vector representation of words. In this paper, we propose a new approach that uses document embeddings to build multiple models that accurately label news articles as reliable or fake. We also present a benchmark on different architectures that detect fake news using binary or multi-labeled classification. We evaluated the models on five large news corpora using accuracy, precision, and recall. We obtained better results than more complex state-of-the-art Deep Neural Network models. We observe that the most important factor for obtaining high accuracy is the document encoding, not the classification model's complexity. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

Blockchain technology gained much traction in the last few years. These decentralized databases offer security, immutability, and scalability across various applications. Decentralized applications generate vast amounts of data, known as events, that are recorded on the blockchain and are public to anyone. Some people may see opportunities for financial gains in these events and would like to know when they occur. This paper proposes a solution to process and deliver those events as real-time alerts to the users. It uses existing technologies such as message queues, multithreading, and asynchronous processing and integrates them into a scalable architecture. The results we achieved in this paper show that for an evenly distributed network traffic, which does not entirely consists of transaction bursts, the proposed solution offers reliability, efficiency, and a suitable delivery time to those wishing to integrate it into their projects. With time, this solution, or improved architectures, may form the basis of the following big-data architectures for processing blockchain events.

"Artificial lung" is a device that simulates breathing process of occupants in a room. This allows you to safely test, e.g., the impact of HVAC systems on the spread of pathogens. The paper describes the concept of the device, its construction and performed tests. The project was implemented by students of two faculties: automatic control, Electronics and Computer Science, and Energy and Environmental engineering. Graphics processing units (GPU) are an integral part of today's computing environment. The marketing emphasis on user experience pushes vendors to constantly look for better graphics hardware and newer drivers to integrate into their products. Most commodity GPUs function as accelerators for image and video processing tasks and are present (either as dedicated or integrated form factor) in everyday devices including desktops, laptops, smartphones or other portable gadgets. Recent trends have seen the GPU move to perform additional tasks such as offloading some of the computation from the CPU or solve highly parallel problems. As GPUs become more powerful and widespread they will naturally become a very attractive target for attackers. Cybercriminals will look for any vulnerability in the GPU hardware or software, and will try to use it as an attack vector to compromise the system. This paper presents some of the incidents that involve the use of GPUs to perform malicious actions and proposes a framework to allow analysts to inspect the code executed on the GPU and trigger security alerts. The proposed solution will look at the processes running inside an operating system, it will identify which of them require access to the GPU and will try to intercept and scan for any suspicious activities, similar to a conventional security solution. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper considers a trajectory tracking problem in motion control of a mobile platform. The platform is designed to have differential drive, Arduino microcontroller, Bluetooth connectivity and is battery powered, thus representing a complete mechatronic system. The task at this stage was to provide the platform motion along simple desired trajectories, such as straight lines and curves. During its motion, the platform draws its trajectory on the surface, upon which motion accuracy can be evaluated. Odometry approach is used in solving this task where each wheel motor is driven within a cascaded control structure with conventional digital controllers. Experimental results of several tests are presented and analyzed.

In this article the review of the existing manufacturing technologies of the soft magnetic materials have been performed. The existing technological protocols for production of the electrically insulated powders and their further treatment towards manufacturing of the soft magnetic materials are provided. The influences of different technological processes on the mechanical, electrical and magnetic properties of the resulting soft magnetic materials have been reviewed and described. Finally, the usage and implementation of the soft magnetic composites in the field of electric motor design have been discussed. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, the problem of backward compatibility of active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) is investigated. The goal is to contextualize ADRC to deliver its interpretations from the established field of linear control systems. For this study, a control algorithm, denoted here as integral disturbance rejection control (IDRC), is considered that combines classical state-feedback control with an integral compensator. At first, an interpretation of ADRC is involved in terms of existing state-space control approaches. Next, a transition to the frequency domain is performed, which is justified as a significant part of practical control engineering is conducted in that domain. For assumed specific plant structures, both ADRC and IDRC are then holistically compared in terms of transfer function representation and frequency characteristics, as well as steady-state convergence conditions. Such a juxtaposition helps to highlight the similarities and differences of both approaches, whereas the utilized bandwidth parameterization is shown to bring the control system to the same form, thus indicating some interesting practical aspects. Finally, the theoretical results concerning both considered control structures are validated in a set of numerical simulations and experiments conducted on a laboratory hardware testbed. © 2025 The Author(s).
