In the current firearms dynamics research, the majority of studies focus on the extraction resistance and subsequent recoil forces, with relatively fewer studies on the unlocking force. This study focuses on the measurement of firearm unlocking force by analyzing the previously designed measurement device. By employing theoretical and dynamic simulation analyses, the variations of unlocking force over time were determined. A comparison of two sets of curves showed a high degree of coincidence, indicating the feasibility of the device in principle. Subsequently, to verify the accuracy of the measurements obtained by the device, a specific firearm was studied through simulation and experimental analysis, demonstrating the precision of the device's measurements. This structural device not only can be effectively used for measuring firearm unlocking force but also provides a new approach for experimental research on this force in firearms. © 2024 SPIE.

Emergencies associated with incorrect operation of relay protection and automation (RPA) devices due to saturation of current transformers (CTs) can lead to great economic damage. The article presents an analysis of regulatory and technical documentation containing requirements for the quality of CT functioning in transient modes, statistical data on the results of calculations performed in accordance with the requirements of GOST R 58869–2019, as well as an analysis of the correctness of the assumptions introduced by it. To calculate the time to CTs saturation a special program was developed that automates the calculation methods, taking into account the assumptions focused on performing the manual calculations. The program takes into account the variation of the short circuit switching angle, the phase difference of the short circuit currents flowing through the branches feeding the short circuit point, the calculation of all CTs of a three-phase group with automatic selection of the worst result. The results obtained allow us to conclude about the relative number of CTs that do not meet the requirements of GOST R 58869–2019, the need to modernize existing methods and possible directions for such modernization. In addition, the article provides recommendations on the creation of automatic specialized software systems that can be used in the work of design, operating and research entities when they calculate the time to saturation of the CT magnetic circuits.

Aircraft assembly entails drilling numerous holes, often in multi-material stacks, then joining parts with fasteners fitted through the holes. There are stringent quality requirements on the holes, and assessment of hole quality is crucial to ensuring the integrity of the joints. Carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) is a commonly used material in aircraft structures due to its desirable properties. However, it is susceptible to defects not associated with metals, such as delamination and uncut fibres. While there have been multiple metrics for assessment of these defects proposed in literature, relatively few attempts to consolidate them have been seen. Furthermore, common measurement methods used for assessing these defects (e.g. 3D-microscopy) are well established, but can be time-consuming;manual interrogation of raw inspection data can also be highly subjective. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a set of combined metrics along with an automatic image processing framework for fast assessment of delamination and uncut fibre defects. The combined metric for the delamination region is aggregated from across six factors and uncut fibre uniform metrics from across five factors. The image processing framework receives grayscale images as inputs, taken from an optical coordinate measuring machine, and outputs the combined metrics along with eleven separate metrics. Experimental results, using a preexisting dataset from twenty-four holes on two workpieces from a real robotic drilling operation, are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed combined metrics and the corresponding image processing framework. © 2024 IEEE.

The incremental stability analysis of Lurie systems consisting of the feedback interconnection between a linear time-invariant (LTI) system and a slope-bounded nonlinearity is considered. We first show that the incremental input-output mappings generated by the set of slope-bounded nonlinearities satisfy a set of biased integral quadratic constraints (IQCs) defined by Popov multipliers. Then, a frequency-domain inequality (FDI) condition on the LTI system is proposed for establishing incremental closed-loop stability via an incremental form of IQC theory. Application of the KYP lemma yields an equivalent linear matrix inequality (LMI) condition.

The Russian energy sector underwent significant changes at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century [1]. The rapid development of engineering and technology in Russia inevitably led to a constant increase in the power system capacity, which in turn led to an increase in the levels of short circuit (SC) currents. Under such conditions, the problems of ensuring static and dynamic stability, the development of automatic emergency control (AEC) systems and the creation of new types of relay protection and automation systems (RPA) have become priority issues for the development of the electric power industry [2]. In particular, recently one of the most important issues is the creation of more advanced current sensors based on non-traditional primary converters [3-7]. A huge breakthrough in solving the tasks was made thanks to the development of computer technology. Electromagnetic and static relays were replaced by microprocessor technologies, the main advantage of which is a high-resistance input, which allows to use previously inaccessible low-power devices. One of these devices is the Rogowski coil, which is one of the types of nontraditional primary current converters. The disadvantage of the split Rogowski coil is the dependence of the metrological characteristics of the transducer on the position of the conductor. This article is devoted to the development of methods for reducing this dependence. © 2022 IEEE.

Slot coating is a widely used technique in various manufacturing processes. The efficiency of the process mostly depends on the precise control of diverse inputs such as pump rate and gap. However, this method can be sensitive to minor disturbances in process conditions, which can disrupt the uniformity of the film thickness. To overcome the challenge, through the implementation of the generalized disturbance observer and compensator, the impact of disturbances can be attenuated in the output channel. In addition, by combining with an output tracking controller, the proposed composite architecture effectively compensates the disturbances while guaranteeing the tracking of the specified film thickness across a wide range of situations. The simulation results were illustrated to showcase the effectiveness of the disturbance observer-based optimal tracking control (DOBOTC) system.

At the present time approximately 20% of 6-10 kV cable networks operate with resonant-grounded via arc-suppression coil (ASC) neutral point [1]. Meanwhile, an increasing number of experts note that resonant grounding of neutral point via ASC cannot solve the issue of single phase to earth faults (SPEF) negative consequences and their most dangerous variation, which is called intermittent arc single phase to earth fault (IASPEF) [for example, 2]. The main reasons for the inadequate efficiency of this neutral grounding mode are higher harmonic components in steady-state SPEF current, as well as higher harmonic components which are due to intensive transient processes during SPEF, which cannot be compensates by the usage of ASC. For the compensation of these components it is necessary to apply the devices, which will be complement ASC;these devices, together with the ASC, can be called a system of full compensation of the SPEF current. © 2022 IEEE.

In this proposal, a predictive control scheme is considered for PMSG based wind turbine system in order to maximize power extraction. The main goal is to maintain the turbine tip-speed ratio (and consequently the power coefficient) at its optimal point and regulate the PMSG rotor speed in reaction to the variation of wind speed. The control of generator speed is done by employing a generalized predictive controller. This regulator by taking advantage of the predictive feature can prepare the generator to react to the upcoming wind in advance and consequently increases the efficiency of the turbine. Also, it has been demonstrated that this controller enhances the transient response of the system compared to the conventional methods. The proposed controller has been validated through Matlab/Simulink and an experimental test bench.

Rotating machinery is important to industrial production. Any failure of rotating machinery, especially the failure of rolling bearings, can lead to equipment shutdown and even more serious incidents. Therefore, accurate residual life prediction plays a crucial role in guaranteeing machine operation safety and reliability and reducing maintenance cost. In order to increase the forecasting precision of the remaining useful life(RUL) of the rolling bearing, an advanced approach combining elastic net with long short-time memory network(LSTM) is proposed, and the new approach is referred to as E-LSTM. The E-LSTM algorithm consists of an elastic mesh and LSTM, taking temporal-spatial correlation into consideration to forecast the RUL through the LSTM. To solve the over-fitting problem of the LSTM neural network during the training process, the elastic net based regularization term is introduced to the LSTM *** this way, the change of the output can be well characterized to express the bearing degradation mode. Experimental results from the real-world data demonstrate that the proposed E-LSTM method can obtain higher stability and relevant values that are useful for the RUL forecasting of bearing. Furthermore, these results also indicate that E-LSTM can achieve better performance.

This paper develops a physics-informed neural network (PINN) for learning the parameters of commercially implemented adaptive cruise control (ACC) systems. The constant time-headway policy (CTHP) is adopted to emulate the core functionality of stock ACC systems (proprietary control logic and its parameters) which is not publicly available. Multi-layer artificial neural networks is a class of universal approximators, and thus the developed PINN can serve as a surrogate approximator to capture the longitudinal dynamics of ACC-engaged vehicles and efficiently learn the unknown parameters of the CTHP. The ability of the PINN to infer the unknown ACC parameters is tested on both synthetic and empirical data of space-gap and relative velocity involved ACC-engaged vehicles in platoon formation. The results have demonstrated the superior predictive ability of the proposed PINN to learn the unknown design parameters of stock ACC systems of different vehicle makes. The set of ACC model parameters obtained from the PINN revealed that the stock ACC system of the considered vehicles in three experimental campaigns is neither $\mathcal{L}_{2}$ nor $\mathcal{L}_{\infty}$ string stable.
