In the paper there are presented some controller design methods in delta domain based on the delta model of the plant aiming to compare them with similar methods specific to continuous and discrete time design. Design of PI, PID and Dead-beat algorithms are presented and exemplified for second and third order plants (benchmarks). The design of PID controllers use (i) optimization techniques based on Modulus Optimum method and (ii) pole cancellation method with imposing an "optimum" value for the phase margin. An illustrative sensitivity analysis between delta domain controllers and Z discrete time controllers has been made. Simulations are made regarding delta design and compared with results obtained through continuous design and Z-discrete implementation. Dead-beat controllers are considered optimal from the point of view of settling time. The results support as a viable alternative the design in delta domain and show less sensitivity in the case of delta controllers versus the discrete (Z) design.

In this paper, a direct learning control method for a class of switched systems is proposed. The objective of direct learning is to generate the desired control profile for a newly switched system without any feedback, even if the system may have uncertainties. This is achieved by exploring the inherent relationship between any two systems before and after a switch. The new method is applicable to a class of linear time varying, uncertain and switched systems, when the trajectory tracking control problem is concerned. A numerical simulation demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this study a model-based control designed for the operation of a solar power plant is discussed. The simplified physically based model of the plant was developed on the basis of the energy balances including the solar insulation as an input, the heat transferred by the flow of the oil as a working media and the overall heat loss from the plant. The outlet temperature of the collector field is the reference/set-point value while the volumetric flow rate of the oil is the manipulating variable to the controller. The solar radiation, the ambient temperature and the inlet oil temperature to the collector field are assumed as the disturbances. The model developed and identified is an internal part of the controller. The initial control experimental results are also presented.

This paper presents a novel approach for off-line signature verification. First the different aspects and problems of signature verification are discussed in conjunction with off-line analysis methods. It is shown, that on-line analysis methods perform usually better than off-line methods because they can make use of the temporal information (and thereby get a better perception of the semantics of the signature). An assumption is made, that off-line verification methods have difficulties improving their results because of the high level of abstraction they use, which is a direct consequence of the missing semantics. Afterwards a solution is presented with the ability to preserve some semantic information, and thereby deliver a better ability to analyze the results and optimize the system.

Nowadays, the carpet quality analysis is determined in industry by human experts, because the automated assessment is not capable of matching the human expertise. Therefore, the carpet company demands a reliable and economic standardization of carpet wear level. This paper presents a new strategy for analyzing and classifying the texture of the wear carpet surface of 3D image, where 3D image is produced by 3D laser scanner. 2D image is obtained from 3D data resample on different grid sizes. The features extracted are based on Haralick descriptors of co-occurrence matrix. These features are used as inputs to a classifier system, which is based on support vector machine (SVM). Multi-class classification training based on SVM is applied. The performance of the new technique proposed gives an average of over 92% correct labeling.

Clustering vehicles in a platoon by exchanging information through communication networks leads to an improvement in their performance with a moderate cooperation effort. In particular, in this paper, a bio-inspired methodology for overlapping coalitions of vehicles is proposed, which optimizes communication and control performance. The results obtained using the proposed adaptive clusters method are compared with the ones obtained by a conventional coalitional control strategy, and the comparison illustrates the improved efficiency of the proposed method.

The paper deals with influence of a single scalar positive tuning parameter on performance properties of the closed control loop which contains algebraically designed PI controller while the response quality is evaluated by the size of first under- or overshoots. The controller coefficients are calculated from general solutions of diophantine equations in the ring of proper and Hurwitz stable rational functions. Subsequently, these controllers can be tuned by the only parameter. The contribution brings simple tuning rules and, moreover, it presents their possible practical application during control of real laboratory model assumed as system with parametric uncertainty.

This paper deals with design of continuous-time robustly stabilizing Proportional-Integral (PI) controllers for interval systems using the combination of Kronecker summation method, sixteen plant theorem and an algebraic approach to controller tuning. The effectiveness and practical applicability of the proposed method is demonstrated in both simulation and real experiments including control of a third order nonlinear electronic plant.
