The specific relationships between the classical pole-placement state feedback, the RICCATI equation based LQ paradigm and the KALMAN frequency domain approach are discussed. It is shown that arbitrary pole placement is not possible by standard LQ optimality. A possible solution of this anomaly is to use more general LQ criterion with specific weights on the state, input and crossterm.

The control error in a generic two-degree of freedom (TDOF) control system can be decomposed into three major parts: design-, realizability- and modeling-loss. This new decomposition opens useful ways for practical optimization of TDOF systems and helps the construction of new algorithms for robust identification and control. The paper investigates the optimality of the third term.
The article deals with the economic evaluation of investment and optimization of the renewable energy sources for family houses. For example, from the point of view of solar systems, the optimal solution is based on t...

This book covers analytic methods to solve one-dimensional and multi-dimensional problems with or without possible constraints, iterative numerical techniques based on the gradient calculation or its estimation, and numerical methods that do not require the knowledge of gradient and use only comparative iterative tests. This book provides the reader with a basic introduction to some traditional parameter optimization techniques. The presented problems and their solution methods represent a core of the parameter optimization reign since the 17th century to the 1970s. Linear and integer programming via the simplex table is also introduced. Two simple selected problems that are solved using dynamic programming principles are also given to the reader. A general approach to constraints via penalty and barrier functions is introduced. A concise introduction to the decision and game theory concludes the book.
The book does not intend to provide the reader with a rigorous mathematic derivation of the presented methods. Its aim is instead to bring to the attention essential optimization tools for practitioners and undergraduate students and introduce selected well-established techniques to them when optimizing parameters of various models. Each method is described theoretically and supported by one or more numerical examples that vary from academic ones, through business economics to funny real-world problems that attract a broad audience. A sketch of Matlab code also follows numerical-based techniques. The author believes that the book finds its place in the libraries of many undergraduate students of various technical study programs and modern, thoughtful people worldwide, regardless of their expertise.
This paper presents an experimental study that compares the performance of four selected metaheuristic algorithms for optimizing a time delay system model. Time delay system models are complex and challenging to optim...

Mining frequent patterns in large transactional databases is a highly researched area in the field of data mining. The different existing frequent pattern discovering algorithms suffer from various problems regarding the computational and I/O cost, and memory requirements when mining large amount of data. In this paper a novel approach is introduced for solving the aforementioned issues. The contribution of the new method is to count the short patterns in a very fast way, using a specific index structure. The suggested algorithm is partially based on the apriori hypothesis and exploits the benefit of a new index table-based cubic structure to count the occurrences of the candidates. Experimental results show the advantageous execution time behavior of the proposed algorithm, especially when mining datasets having huge number of short patterns. Its memory requirement, which is independent from the number of processed transactions, is another benefit of the new method.
The paper presents a control system design technique in delta domain for IMC (Internal Model control) structure. Also a generalised form for delta domain Dead-beat control algorithm is given, a hybrid implementation o...

Systems with internal delays in feedback loops, so called time-delay or anisochronic ones, constitute a widespread family of industrial plants. Their linear representation in the form of the Laplace transform yields transfer functions expressed as ratios of quasipolynomials, instead of polynomials, with delay (exponential) terms in denominators. In this paper, detailed pole location analysis of a quasipolynomial of degree one is presented. This quasipolynomial is capable to express the dynamics of conventional high order systems, even without internal delays, as a model transfer function denominator. The presented analysis represents also a powerful tool for controller tuning in pole-placement control algorithms for delayed systems.
