The importance of a mature, maintainable design of automation software in Cyber-Physical Production systems (CPPS) is continuously increasing since a growing proportion of the system functionality is implemented via software. As a result, system complexity is shifting more and more towards the software side. Quality characteristics such as flexibility, maintainability, and extensibility, whose importance is increasing in the context of Industry 4.0, are thus becoming harder to achieve. These challenges can only be solved through sound architectural design. While there is a common understanding of good software architecture and appropriate methods to achieve it in computer science, a suitable architecture definition for automation software that takes all relevant factors into account is still missing in the field of CPPS. Therefore, based on a workshop with international scientists with different perspectives on CPPS, this paper presents influencing factors on automation software architecture. On this basis, a joint definition for software architecture in CPPS, as well as challenges and future research potentials, are derived.

Distributed Stabilization of Signed Networks via Self-loop Compensation

This paper examines the stability and distributed stabilization of signed multi-agent networks. Here, positive semidefiniteness is not inherent for signed Laplacians, which renders the stability and consensus of this category of networks intricate. First, we examine the stability of signed networks by introducing a novel graph-theoretic objective negative cut set, which implies that manipulating negative edge weights cannot change a unstable network into a stable one. Then, inspired by the diagonal dominance and stability of matrices, a local state damping mechanism is introduced using self-loop compensation. The self-loop compensation is only active for those agents who are incident to negative edges and can stabilize signed networks in a fully distributed manner. Quantitative connections between selfloop compensation and the stability of the compensated signed network are established for a tradeoff between compensation efforts and network stability. Necessary and/or sufficient conditions for predictable cluster consensus of compensated signed networks are provided. The optimality of self-loop compensation is discussed. Furthermore, we extend our results to directed signed networks where the symmetry of signed Laplacian is not free. The correlation between the stability of the compensated dynamics obtained by self-loop compensation and eventually positivity is further discussed. Novel insights into the stability of multi-agent systems on signed networks in terms of self-loop compensation are offered. Simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the theoretical results. Independent dimensional phase transition on a two-dimensional Kuramoto model with matrix coupling

The high-dimensional generalization of the one-dimensional Kuramoto paradigm has been an essential step in bringing about a more faithful depiction of the dynamics of real-world systems. Despite the multi-dimensional nature of the oscillators in these generalized models, the interacting schemes so far have been dominated by a scalar factor unanimously between any pair of oscillators that leads eventually to synchronization on all dimensions. As a natural extension of the scalar coupling befitting for the one-dimensional case, we take a tentative step in studying numerically and theoretically the coupling mechanism of 2 × 2 real matrices on two-dimensional Kuramoto oscillators. One of the features stemmed from this new mechanism is that the matrix coupling enables the two dimensions of the oscillators to separate their transitions to either synchronization or desynchronization which has not been seen in other high-dimensional generalizations. Under various matrix configurations, the synchronization and desynchronization of the two dimensions combine into four qualitatively distinct modes of position and motion of the system. We demonstrate that as one matrix is morphed into another in a specific manner, the system mode also switches correspondingly either through continuous or explosive transitions of the order parameters, thus mimicking a range of behaviors in information science and biology. To realize the dual carbon policy, the goal of energy saving, and emission reduction, it is important to develop ways to better promote the low carbon economic operation of energy systems. Therefore, this research proposes an optimal operation strategy considering the electric-gas-cooling-heat demand response. Considering the demand response of each participant, an integrated energy system model with photovoltaic, wind energy, and traditional grid as energy supply. Also, electric energy, natural gas, cooling, and heating subsystems with co-production are established. With minimizing the overall system operation cost and optimizing environmental protection, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the multi-constrained objective optimization problem. Finally, the optimized model is tested. The results from this study show that the energy system under cogeneration can find a balance between economy and environmental friendliness, and provide a reference for the subsequent energy supply configuration.

Residual 3D Scene Flow Learning with Context-Aware Feature Extraction

Scene flow estimation is the task to predict the point-wise or pixel-wise 3D displacement vector between two consecutive frames of point clouds or images, which has important application in fields such as service robots and autonomous driving. Although many previous works have explored greatly on scene flow estimation based on point clouds, there are two problems that have not been noticed or well solved before: 1) Points of adjacent frames in repetitive patterns may be wrongly associated due to similar spatial structure in their neighbourhoods;2) Scene flow between adjacent frames of point clouds with long-distance movement may be inaccurately estimated. To solve the first problem, a novel context-aware set convolution layer is proposed in this paper to exploit contextual structure information of Euclidean space and learn soft aggregation weights for local point features. This design is inspired by human perception of contextual structure information during scene understanding with repetitive patterns. The context-aware set convolution layer is incorporated in a context-aware point feature pyramid module of 3D point clouds for scene flow estimation. For the second problem, an explicit residual flow learning structure is proposed in the residual flow refinement layer to cope with long-distance movement. The experiments and ablation study on FlyingThings3D and KITTI scene flow datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of each proposed component. The qualitative results show that the problems of ambiguous inter-frame association and long-distance movement estimation are well handled. Quantitative results on both FlyingThings3D and KITTI scene flow datasets show that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance, surpassing all other previous works to the best of our knowledge by at least 25%. Realizing Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) based on large models is emerging as a prevailing trend. However, most existing methods merely regard large models as black boxes, solely leveraging the features output by the final layer while disregarding potential performance enhancements from other layers. Indeed, numerous researchers have visually depicted variations in the features learned across different layers of neural networks. Motivated by this observation, we propose a Vision Transformer (ViT)-based GZSL method named Depth-Aware Multi-Modal ViT (DAM2ViT), which exploits multi-level features of ViT. DAM2ViT incorporates a multi-modal interaction block to align semantic information of categories across multiple layers, thereby augmenting the model's capacity to learn associations between visual and semantic spaces. Extensive experiments conducted on three benchmark datasets (i.e., CUB, SUN, AWA2) have showcased that DAM2ViT achieves competitive results compared to state-of-the-art methods.

This paper addresses the robustness of a network to sustain its connectivity and controllability against malicious attacks. This kind of network robustness is typically measured by the time-consuming attack simulation, which returns a sequence of values that record the remaining connectivity and controllability after a sequence of node- or edge-removal attacks. For improvement, this paper develops an efficient framework for network robustness prediction, the spatial pyramid pooling convolutional neural network (SPP-CNN). The new framework installs a spatial pyramid pooling layer between the convolutional and fully-connected layers, overcoming the common mismatch issue in the CNN-based prediction approaches and extending its generalizability. Extensive experiments are carried out by comparing SPP-CNN with three state-of-the-art robustness predictors, namely a CNN-based and two graph neural networks-based frameworks. Synthetic and real-world networks, both directed and undirected, are investigated. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed SPP-CNN achieves better prediction performances and better generalizability to unknown datasets, with significantly lower time-consumption, than its counterparts. © 2023, CC BY.

Network robustness is critical for various industrial and social networks against malicious attacks, which has various meanings in different research contexts and here it refers to the ability of a network to sustain its functionality when a fraction of the network fail to work due to attacks. The rapid development of complex networks research indicates special interest and great concern about the network robustness, which is essential for further analyzing and optimizing network structures towards engineering applications. This comprehensive survey distills the important findings and developments of network robustness research, focusing on the a posteriori structural robustness measures for single-layer static networks. Specifically, the a posteriori robustness measures are reviewed from four perspectives: 1) network functionality, including connectivity, controllability and communication ability, as well as their extensions;2) malicious attacks, including conventional and computation-based attack strategies;3) robustness estimation methods using either analytical approximation or machine learning-based prediction;4) network robustness optimization. Based on the existing measures, a practical threshold of network destruction is introduced, with the suggestion that network robustness should be measured only before reaching the threshold of destruction. Then, a posteriori and a priori measures are compared experimentally, revealing the advantages of the a posteriori measures. Finally, prospective research directions with respect to a posteriori robustness measures are recommended. © 2023, CC BY.

The eco-friendly insulating gas C5-PFK is considered promising to replace SF6 as an insulating medium in gas-insulated equipment. At present, there are few reports on the acute inhalation toxicity of C5-PFK gas, leaving hidden dangers for related scientific research and engineering applications. In this paper, by setting up an eco-friendly gas insulating medium acute inhalation test platform, with experimental mice as the research object, a 4h acute inhalation toxicity test study of C5-PFK gas was carried out according to the OECD403 test guide. The study found that after acute inhalation of low-concentration C5-PFK gas, mice will experience symptoms such as excitement, heartbeat and shortness of breath, but will return to normal after a few hours. There will be no abnormalities during the 14-day observation period and their physical condition is good. After acute inhalation of high-concentration C5-PFK gas, mice will become paralyzed and lose their ability to move independently, leading to death. The LC50 of 4h acute inhalation of C5-PFK gas in mice was 7400-7500ppm (female) and 8600-8800ppm (male). The acute toxicity of C5-PFK gas should be classified as the lowest toxic category 4 in the GHS, which is a low-toxic gas. © 2021 The Institution of engineering and Technology.

SNNs have achieved great attention in recent years as they contain neurons more like those in the brain and use spikes to encode and transmit information efficiently among neurons with lower energy consumption. A Retina-LGN-V1 structure-like spiking neuron network (RLVSL-SNN) is proposed in this paper. It is inspired by the structure of mammalian primary visual pathway, and simulates different biological structures of Retina, LGN and V1. Noise reduction circuit and light adaptation circuit are also simulated for enhancing the robustness of its extracted features. RLVSL-SNN is a bio-plausible neuron network as it has firing rates of neurons in each layer that are similar to those of biological experiments. Besides, a full-connected SNN (FC SNN) is implemented following RLVSL-SNN for classification to evaluate the extracted features. The additive spiking timing dependent plasticity (STDP) learning rules and the ANN-to-SNN conversion method are utilized to train RLVSL-SNN and FC SNN, respectively. The experiments on MNIST dataset have verified that RLVSL-SNN is comparable to AlexNet for classification by features from spikes.
