Using induced L 2 -norm minimization, a robust controller was developed for insulin delivery in Type I diabetic patients. The high-complexity nonlinear diabetic patient Sorensen-model [1] was considered. LPV (Linear Parameter Varying) methodology was used to develop open loop model and robust controller. Considering the normoglycemic set point (81.1 mg/dL), a polytopic set was created over the physiologic boundaries of the glucose-insulin interaction of the Sorensen-model. In this way, LPV model formalism was defined. The robust control was developed considering input and output multiplicative uncertainties with other weighting functions.

Non conventional instrument transformer (NCIT) and IEC 61850 are crucial technologies in digital substations. But they bring some new uncertainties to protection IEDs, especially the time synchronization issue in current differential protection. The paper analyzes the time delay of transferring sampled values from NCIT to current differential relay in NCIT and IEC61850 based digital substation, then finds out the delay-non-deterministic problem, at last presents a novel current differential protection scheme by using phase-locked loops (PLL ) technology.

The stabilization problem of networked control systems with bounded packet loss is addressed. We model such networked control systems as a class of switched systems, and present sufficient conditions for the stabilization by using a packet-loss dependent Lyapunov function. Moreover, different from existing results, we propose the design for packet-loss dependent stabilizing controllers for two types of packet-loss processes: one is a arbitrary packet-loss process, and the other is a Markovian packet-loss process. Several numerical examples and simulations are worked out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design technique.

Occupant's identity and location are important information for lighting control in order to reduce the energy consumption while increasing livelihood. While active RFID system provides occupant's identity, it is nontrivial to localize the occupant's location in an indoor environment due to the multipath effect, the changing environment, and the unreliable communication link. In this paper, we implement a system with multiple active RFID readers, and develop a localization algorithm based on support vector machine (SVM). The algorithm uses round-robin comparison to localize the occupant to one of the multiple regions in a floor. The geometric relationship among the rooms and the historical localization data are used to further improve the localization accuracy. Numerical results demonstrate a high localization accuracy of this algorithm. We hope this work sheds insight on lighting control for energy saving and an increased livelihood.

This article gives a capsule view of research on rough set theory and applications ongoing at universities and laboratories in China. Included in this capsule view of rough set research is a brief description of the following things: Chinese research groups on rough set with their URLs for web pages, names of principal researchers (supervisors), numbers of graduate students, and topics being investigated. Statistical summaries showing the growth in the research on rough set theory and application in China are included. In addition, an introduction summarizing the research interests of Chinese researchers is included in this article. This work presents the comparison between the results obtained from applying three different control strategies for regulating the temperature in a distributed solar collector (DSC) field. A nonlinear predictive control strategy, the Nonlinear Extended Prediction Self-Adaptive control (Nonlinear EPSAC or NEPSAC), is compared with a linear predictive controller and a PI controller. All control strategies include a Smith Predictor and use a model of the process for the tuning of the controllers. Simulations on a model based on physical and geometric properties of the solar field are performed and controllers are validated on real data measurements. © 2007 EUCA.

Renewable energies are gaining space in the energy generation panorama, thanks to technological advances and policy support. To take profit of these energies in an optimal and sustained way, research of new control strategies becomes imperative. This work presents the study and application of a nonlinear control strategy, where a Smith Predictor is added to the Nonlinear Extended Prediction Self-Adaptive control (NEPSAC), for the control of a Solar Power Plant. The delay-dependent guaranteed cost control problem is studied for a class of uncertain nonlinear discrete systems with time-delay. A sufficient condition is presented for the existence of a memory state feedback and a parameterized representation of the control laws is given in terms of certain linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The non-convex feasible problem is converted into convex optimization problem, and the design procedure of optimal control law is given.

A neural-adaptive control solution is exposed in this paper. The control strategy is based on the linear adaptive neuron, which is called ADALINE. Unlike other neural control solutions, based on perceptrons neurons characterized by a long time learning process and a difficult on-line tuning of weights, this approach uses a fast algorithm, which adapts on-line the neuron's weights. Therefore the non-linear character of control law is induced by the permanent changes of neuron weights, which are variable parameters of controller. A set of study cases is done, with application to the excitation control of a synchronous generator.
