The paper offers the possibility of the design of unknown input detection for dynamic systems under external noise effect. The presented geometric based fundamental problem in residual generation (FPRG) method uses on the one hand the Kalman filtering and on the other hand the moving horizon estimation (MHE) when stochastic noise on the input and on the output, with additive failure directions, are presents. The paper combines the optimal Kalman and MHE method with geometric based unknown input observer strategy. The MHE solution makes to treat constraints during the estimation process possible. This study is an effort to give a practical solution in the problem of optimizing the structure of the Hierarchical Mixture of Experts model, which is a natural extension of the Associative Gaussian Mixture of Experts system. We present two novel methods for optimizing such structures using Genetic Algorithms. Special concern is taken for reducing the computational time so as to efficiently allow the structure to "grow" while it evolves with the Genetic Algorithm. The main contribution of the paper lies on the efficient, topologically oriented, representations of such architectures so as to be optimized through involving genetic algorithms.

Magnetically controlled shape memory (MSM) materials are a new way to produce motion and force. The material changes shape in a magnetic field. Shape changes are even 10 percent and response time is less than a millisecond. Usual applications of the material are actuators that produce linear motion. In this paper the magnetic controlled properties of MSM material, the operation principle, design and control method of an inchworm type linear MSM motor are introduced. The tested results of a prototype machine are also presented.

For the operation of boom cranes a significant high level of experience is needed to achieve a large amount of handled containers. Therefore, automationsystems with anti-sway abilities for boom cranes were developed to increase the handling rate especially for inexperienced crane operators. In the paper, an optimal control approach is presented as an alternative to feedback controlsystems. After deriving the nonlinear dynamic model, the anti-sway problem is formulated as a nonlinear constrained optimal control problem. The numerical solution method for this optimal control problem is presented. The results are illustrated at measurements for the harbour mobile crane LIEBHERR LHM400.

Rapid advances in the real-time embedded operating systems necessitate the development of Internet oriented application specific embedded operating systems. The ASOS (application specific embedded operating systems) has now become a promising research direction of the embedded operating system. The paper clarifies the concept of the ASOS, and takes the embedded operating system applied in the traffic signal controller we are now developing to illustrate the main characteristics of the ASOS. Benefits from the CBSE (component-based software engineering) include system quality improvement, shorter time to market, integration of complex systems, etc. However, as for the embedded system, the component-based technology and theories still in an exploration period, though many projects are carried on. In this paper, we present the process of our approach to construct the ASOS based on the component technology.

In this paper, a genetic algorithm based on Infeasibility Degree (IFD) selection is proposed for constrained optimization problems. Initial solutions and intermediate solutions are allowed to be feasible as well as infeasible as penalty function methods. The infeasibility degree of a solution (IFD) is defined as the sum of the square value of all the constraints violation and the infeasibility degree selection of the population is designed through checking whether the IFD of a solution is less than or equal to a threshold value or not to decide the candidate solution is acceptable or refusable. The method is divided into two stages: first, initial IFD selection is carried out to produce enough initial feasible solution;then the GAs based on Annealing IFD selection is applied to search for the feasible optimum solution. Two selected problems are used to test the algorithm performance.
