This paper tackles the regulation problem of linear time invariant systems with unmatched perturbations. The proposed methodology exploits a high order sliding mode observer, which guarantees theoretically exact state and perturbation estimation. In this work is introduced a controller with a compensation strategy based on the identified perturbation values. A nested backward sliding surface design is proposed, which allows to compensate the unmatched uncertainties and to stabilize some of the non-actuated state components, while all the remaining states are maintained bounded. The overall stabilization error is estimated in terms of the sampling time and actuator time constant values. The feasibility of the technique is showed in a rotary inverted pendulum simulation example.

Data-based control technique becomes a research hot point because of the controller design need the system I/O data only. A class of data-based controller design and its parameters tuning method (IFT-MFAC) was proposed for a class of discrete-time nonlinear system in this paper. Three controller structures are deduced according to non-parameters time-varying dynamic linearization theorem, then the controller parameters are tuning by IFT technique. The rationality of the 3 structures of the controller is assured by the theorem, whereas, the controller structure is designed blindly by IFT. Obviously, the new method settles down this problem more properly. Finally, the three data-based methods IFT-MFAC, MFAC and IFT were compared through 3examples. And the simulation results show the validity of the IFT-MFAC.

PID controller has simple structure and easy applicability with strong performance robustness. Decentralized PID controller and decoupling PID controller are widely adopted in the control of two-input-two-output (TITO) processes. Firstly, a simple decoupling controller matrix and a desired dynamic decoupling controller matrix are designed according to the idea of coupling matrix. And then three schemes of controller including decentralized PID controller, simple PID decoupling controller and desired dynamic PID decoupling controller are provided based on the excellent characteristic of DDE. Lastly, the Monte-Carlo stochastic experiment is introduced to analyze performance robustness of the controllers. The simulation experiments illustrate that the simple decoupling control scheme has the ability of complete decoupling and better performance robustness.

In continuous annealing processes, strip tension is an important factor which indicates whether the annealing line works steadily. The strip tension detection in the continuous annealing process, therefore, is essential for the reliable and stable operation of the units, and will help to improve the quality of strip products. However, in real annealing processes, only a limited number of strip tensions can be measured. Since installing tension sensors everywhere will be unrealistic and expensive, in this paper a cascade reduced-order observer method with principal component analysis (PCA) and neural networks (NN) compensation is proposed to estimate the unknown tensions between each two neighboring rolls so as to monitor the tension profile for the whole line. When the main observer model is established, the influences of strip inertia and roll eccentricity on tensions are taken into account for better estimation. Moreover, when the error compensation is designed, PCA scores are used as the inputs to the NN. The application results show the effectiveness of the proposed method, with the estimated tensions used for the analysis of the strip-breaks fault.

This paper deals with the iterative learning control (ILC) problem for uncertain time-delay systems (TDS). In order to ensure monotonic convergence of the ILC process, a sufficient condition is developed using an H ∞ -based framework. It shows that under this framework, the convergence condition is enabled to be delay-dependent and have a formulation in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Moreover, formulas for the updating law design can be derived by directly solving LMIs. A numerical example is provided to verify that the delay-dependent condition in LMI forms is effective in producing monotonically convergent ILC algorithms.

Neuro-physiological measures especially EEG analysis is helpful to understand underlying mechanisms of mental fatigue during sustained mental work. In this research, a work-rest schedule containing mental calculation and music rest break was designed. Neuro-physiological measures were related with subjective evaluation and performance assessment. Individual EEG characteristics and common EEG features were analyzed. It is found that theta and alpha rhythm are highly related with concentration, alertness and drowsy during mental work. Faster EEG frequency bands reflect higher alertness level after taking a rest. Subjective evaluation and performance assessment support EEG findings. The results from subjective evidence and objective evidence indicate that a short break (e.g. 15 min per 2 hrs) in sustained mental work can counteract the accumulation of mental fatigue and improve work efficiency.

This paper considers the model matching problem of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with multiple time delays. The reference model is chosen to be the diagonal delay transfer function matrix. A controller is designed for nominal systems. Furthermore, an adaptive control scheme is proposed for uncertain systems with parameter variation. The resulting scheme can guarantee the global stability of the closed-loop systems and the convergence of the tracking errors. A simulation example is included to illustrate the proposed scheme.

This paper is devoted to the non-fragile controller design for the trajectory tracking of nonholonomic mobile robots. Using non-linear state feedback and proper coordinate transformation, the model of nonholonomic mobile robots is exactly linearized. Based on which, the non-fragile controller is designed by employing the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach.
