Test-driven verification/validation of model transformations

Why is it important to verify/validate model transformations？ The motivation is to improve the quality of the trans- formations, and therefore the quality of the generated software artifacts. Verified/validated model transformations make it possible to ensure certain properties of the generated software artifacts. In this way, verification/validation methods can guarantee different requirements stated by the actual domain against the generated/modified/optimized software products. For example, a verified/ validated model transformation can ensure the preservation of certain properties during the model-to-model transformation. This paper emphasizes the necessity of methods that make model transformation verified/validated, discusses the different scenarios of model transformation verification and validation, and introduces the principles of a novel test-driven method for verifying/ validating model transformations. We provide a solution that makes it possible to automatically generate test input models for model transformations. Furthermore, we collect and discuss the actual open issues in the field of verification/validation of model transformations.

Considering how the number of smartphones have increased and also how social networks became part of our daily life, it is predictable that social network driven services are about to dominate the near future. It is also noticeable that more and more external devices are involved in different type of IT solutions. These are smart watches, smarthome devices and even transportation devices. Furthermore, different smart city concepts are also becoming more and more popular. In this paper, we propose a mobile application based smart transportation solution, called Social Driving that combines the smart city concept with green transportation. Social Driving is based on our VehicleICT framework that is also introduced in this report. The base idea is that drivers can monitor different parameters of their cars and driving style, such as fuel consumption and CO2 emission, furthermore, they can compare these values with other drivers using similar cars and similar engine types. The solution creates different statistics and as a rewarding system motivates people to use their cars more efficiently. We describe architecture of the social driving concept, show and elaborate different measurement results derived from test drives and discuss the effectiveness of the system. © VDE Verlag GMBH, Berlin, Offenbach, Germany.

Review of Man-Machine Interaction in Five-axis Machining with STEP-NC

Mechanical industry is facing major challenges in the 21st century. Products with high quality material, more complex geometry is challenging productivity and cost efficiency, which represents profit in today's economy. In such circumstances, industry has to improve and utilize the most modern means of production. One such possibility is utilization of five-axis machining, with an easy process planning. Step forward towards five-axis machining took place when the product geometry complexity have increased dramatically. Along with this, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) become more sophisticated. Tool-path programming of five-axis Computer Numerical Controllers (CNC) machine tool, accuracy of synchronization and relative positioning for tool according to additional two rotational axes are some of challenges for modern HMI. Human operator without complex but reliable, easy to use interface could not be able to follow the machining process. Moreover, HMI need to provide possibility for editing in any stage during the manufacturing process. In the last decade, new programming language appeared, with better characteristics, called ISO 14649 also known as STEP-NC. STEP-NC allowed utilization of more user-friendly interfaces in construction of machine tools, proving better services, more adjustment possibilities for future. © 2015, IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd. Effect of Robot Revolution Initiative in Europe - Cooperation possibilities for Japan and Europe

Next-generation robotics is based on transformation of the industrial robots to something that everyone can accept, teach and utilize. This utilization will be independent of the purpose (manufacturing, relaxation, nursing, disaster management, etc.) and user skills (children, experts, elderly, etc.). Researchers from all over the world are making progress toward simpler, more human-friendly programming of robots. Lately, a report in Japan has proposed the Robot Revolution Initiative (RRI), which shows the direction of research in Japan (and most likely in USA and Europe). Manufacturing Lead Time Estimation with the Combination of Simulation and Statistical Learning Methods

In the paper, a novel method is introduced for selecting tuning parameters improving accuracy and robustness for multi-model based prediction of manufacturing lead times. Prediction is made by setting up models using statistical learning methods (multivariate regression); trained, validated and tested on log data gathered by manufacturing execution systems (MES). Relevant features, i.e., the predictors most contributing to the response, are selected from a wider range of system parameters. The proposed method is tested on data provided by a discrete event simulation model (as a part of a simulation-based prediction framework) of a small-sized flow-shop system. Accordingly, log data are generated by simulation experiments, substituting the function of a MES system, while considering several different system settings (e.g., job arrival rate, test rejection rate). By inserting the prediction models into a simulation-based decision support system, prospective simulations anticipating near-future deviations and/or disturbances, could be supported. Consequently, simulation could be applied for reactive, disturbance-handling purposes, and, moreover, for training the prediction models.

Modern cellular networks utilising the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) set of standards face an ever-increasing demand for mobile data from connected devices. Header compression is employed to minimise the overhead for IP-based cellular network traffic. In this paper, we evaluate the three header compression implementations used by such networks with respect to their potential throughput increase and complexity for different mobile service scenarios. We compare RTP, UDP and TCP profile compressions regarding their compression gain and complexity. Specifically, we consider header compression as defined by (i) IP Header Compression (RFC 2507), (ii) Robust Header Compression version 1 (RFC 3095), and (iii) the recently updated Robust Header Compression version 2 (RFC 5225) with TCP/IP profile (RFC 6846).This paper presents the performance evaluation of these header compression schemes for UDP, RTP and TCP, for both IPv4 and IPv6 streams in error-free and error-prone scenarios. A comparison between the Robust Header Compression methods and IP Header Compression is also provided. Our results show that all implementations have great potential for saving bandwidth in IP-based wireless networks, even under varying channel conditions. We also present for the first time an analysis of certain RTP header fields which, depending on the transmission characteristics, could have high impact on the overall compression gain. © 2016, Technical university of budapest. Etho-robotics: What kind of behaviour can we learn from the animals?

The trends of robotics changes as service robots gain more ground and become part of our daily lives. Service or social robots have to function in less controlled and more dynamically changing environments than industrial robots, and the users of social robots are generally less technologically literate than the users of industrial robots, therefore social robots have to be able to interact naturally with humans and to fit in the human social environment. Social robotics faces new challenges that require an interdisciplinary approach. In contrast to previous approaches where the communication and behaviour of social robots were based on human-human interactions, ethorobotics offer a new direction. Today robotics is not advanced enough to reach the physical and cognitive capabilities of humans thus human-animal interaction can serve as a better model for designing the behaviour of social robots. Human-dog relationship is a good example for this paradigm as dogs have similar roles as social robots will have in the future. Dogs acquired social cognitive skills during domestication that enhances the interspecific relationship with humans and helps their interactions. Etho-robotics research uses ethological principles and methods to derive complex behavioural models which can be transcribed to mathematical form and implemented into robots. Human-robot interaction studies can be conducted to evaluate and refine the implemented models. Etho-robotics research was already used to create behavioural models for attachment and for multiple aspects of human-robot interactions. The application of Fuzzy Rule Interpolation methods fits well the conceptually "spare rule-based" structure of the existing descriptive verbal ethological models, as in case of the descriptive verbal ethological models the "completeness" of the rule-base is not required. The main benefit of the FRI method adaptation in ethological model implementation is the fact, that it has a simple rule-based knowledge

In this paper we deal with edge preserving surface normal estimation and crease edge detection in discretized range images. Such range images consist of few discrete quantization levels due to the data acquisition method (short base distance stereo), or when the distance variation of the examined surface is low, compared to the disparity quantization levels. We propose a method for normal estimation and crease edge detection using iso-range curves and rotated bilateral filter based sampling. Iso-range curves are used to extract sparse, but reliable range image points. Samples are first selected by a rotated weight matrix and a plane is fitted on such samples. Simple statistics are gathered during the rotation of the weight matrix, in order to find the best fitting plane and extract crease edge measure. Such information may be used for further range image processing: segmentation, mapping, localization, object detection, recognition etc. Results are shown for both synthetic and real range images. It was shown that applying the proposed method resulted in more accurate normal estimations, crease edges were not smoothed and crease edges were successfully detected.

The Impact of the Severity of Knee Osteoarthritis on the Postural Stability

Knee osteoarthritis is one of the most widespread orthopedic diseases among elderly people. Biomechanical effects of this disorder are widely studied. In case of very intense knee osteoarthritis, typical measurements such as gait analysis are no longer possible. On the other hand stance tests can be performed even in these very severe cases. In our research, the biomechanical effects of knee osteoarthritis on postural stability in respect to the degree of abrasion were studied. The participants were divided into two groups according to the degree of osteoarthritis on Kellgren-Lawrence scale (KL3 and KL4+). The load distribution was measured during 30 seconds long bipedal stance. Load distribution between the affected and non-affected leg was determined. From measured parameters the coordinates of the center of pressure (COP) and the axes’ length and area of the 95% confidence ellipse of COP are also calculated. It was found that the confidence ellipse parameters are significantly increasing in respect to the severity of osteoarthritis which means the deterioration of osteoarthritis causes worsening the balancing capability. It could be established, the affected leg is less loaded compared to the healthy leg in both groups.

The remarkable growth of social networking services on global positioning system (GPS)-enabled handheld devices has produced enormous amounts of georeferenced big data. Given a large spatial dataset, the challenge is to effectively discover dense regions from the dataset. Dense regions might be the most attractive area in a city or the most dangerous zone of a town. A solution to this problem can be useful in many applications, including marketing, tourism, and social research. Density-based clustering methods, such as DBSCAN, are often used for this purpose. Nevertheless, current spatial clustering methods emphasize density while neglecting human behavior derived from geographical features. In this paper, we propose EBSCAN, which is based on the novel idea of an entanglement-based approach. Our method considers not only spatial information but also human behavior derived from geographical features. Another problem is that competing methods such as DBSCAN have two input parameters. Thus, it is difficult to determine optimal values. EBSCAN requires only a single intuitive parameter, tooFar, to discover dense regions. Finally, we evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method using both toy examples and real datasets. Our experimentally obtained results reveal the properties of EBSCAN and show that it is >10 times faster than the competitor.
