Computational tasks involving intelligent agents often need to process complex structured information. The way of describing this information greatly influences the performance of the agent. Therefore, a big issue is how the complex data describing that valuable information is not lose while it can also be processed in tractable time. Fuzzy signatures and their multidimensional geometric extension, fuzzy situational maps, are used to describe such complex structured data. These problems are examined in the context of a cooperative mobile robot task and a new method is developed for the simplified describing and processing of the complex inner relations in fuzzy situational maps. This paper mainly deals with the fundamentals of this method. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper illustrates developments of signatures for Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. Since the signatures are data structures with efficient results in modeling of fuzzy inference systems and of uncertain expert systems, the paper starts with the analysis of the data structures used in AI applications from the knowledge representation and manipulation point of view. An overview on the signatures, on the operators on signatures and on classes of signatures is next given. Using the proto fuzzy inference system, these operators are applied in a new application of fuzzy inference system modeled by means of signatures and of classes of signatures.

In this paper, a nineteen level dodecagonal voltage space vector structure is proposed for the first time, by cascading two asymmetric three level inverters with isolated H-Bridges. The dodecagonal structure is made possible by proper selection of DC link voltages and switching states of the inverters. The proposed scheme retains all the advantages of multilevel topologies as well the advantages of dodecagonal voltage space vector structure. A generic and simple method for calculation of PWM timings is proposed. Also, a new method of switching technique is proposed, which ensures minimum switching while maintaining the linearity between modulating signals and the output phase voltages. Extensive simulation and experimental results have been presented for validation of the proposed concept.

The paper is concerned with the wind energy conversion system (WECS) applying doubly fed induction generator. It addresses the question whether the slip-torque characteristic of the generator belonging to short circuited rotor can be shifted along the slip axis only by the rotor voltage in the slip range ±0.3 resulting in more-less similar set of slip-torque characteristics as can be achieved with induction machine supplied by variable frequency. The study includes small, average and large induction generators applied in WECS.

The characteristics and the status of the existing stock of residential buildings are extremely important for the national economy of all countries including Hungary. Formerly some methods and approaches to formally tackle and evaluate individual buildings based on available records and expert reports were formulated. These methods are suitable for the evaluation and ranking of residential buildings and make it easier to complete the status assessment and decision support for further utilization. A mathematical analysis has been conducted to identify the sensitivity of the calculated final results in the case of the applied fuzzy signatures related to the changes of the membership values at the leaves (the end nodes of a graph). This paper briefly presents the methods, then it investigates the validity of these results taking into consideration the possible subjective discrepancy and certainty in the evaluations. © Civil-Comp Press, 2014.

Indoor navigation falls into two main categories: helping people to find their way in buildings, and for automation purposes for example for robots or quadricopters. In this paper pedestrian navigation is being discussed using commercial mobile phones in that particular case, when global navigation systems are not available. Furthermore no beacon or internet-based aid is applied. This type of indoor navigation is called offline indoor navigation, where the main concept is to use onboard sensors of mobile phones and apply different filtering solutions and algorithms for examples such algorithms that follows pedestrian movements. In this paper we compare different solutions for indoor navigation with real measurements. Therefore this work can be considered as a summary work for indoor navigation techniques. Furthermore we propose techniques and measurements for offline indoor navigation by applying different filters and noise processing algorithms considering the limitations of the sensors. © 2013 IEEE.

A new approach of nonholonomic path planning for car-like robots is presented. The main idea is similar to many existing approaches which obtain a path in two phases. It is familiar in nonholonomic planning that at first a holonomic path is planned which is approximated by a nonholonomic one in a second step by subdividing it into smaller parts and replacing them with local paths fulfilling the kinematic constraints. These methods mostly rely on probabilistic methods and heuristic optimization. Our approach uses a holonomic preliminary path as well, but it serves only as a "loose guidance" to the second phase of the planning process. The final path is not required to contain any of the intermediate points of the preliminary path at all. The method is effective in environments consisting of narrow corridors but having wider free areas as well which can be used for maneuvering.

XML is a frequently applied data representation format to support the communication between software systems even if they are on different platforms. The process of transforming an in-memory object instance into bytes of an XML document is called XML serialization, the opposite direction is XML deserialization. Both processes introduce some cost that influences the overhead of the communication. This paper proposes a performance model that can estimate the cost of XML serialization and deserialization on Java platform based on a priori knowledge of the type and size of the XML messages. Type and size information of the XML messages is usually available in the form of an interface definition, such as a Web Services Description Language (WSDL) file. We show that in most cases the cost can be expressed as a linear function of the object size, but exceptions are discussed as well. The suggested model is validated with measurements. © 2013 IEEE.

With the developments of the last years, smart phones became suitable to be used as smart cameras in a visual sensor network. They have the necessary cameras with an acceptable quality of lenses and CCD, the required processing power, and WiFi or Bluetooth interfaces for communication. This paper describes the architecture of the SMEyeL (Smart Mobile Eyes for Localization) system. It is designed to utilize both smart phones and PC-s as processing nodes of a visual sensor network. It aims to achieve high spatial and temporal resolution, energy consumption optimization via computation offloading and distributed processing. The SMEyeL project is open source: source code and measurement data sets are available on the web. We present the detailed description of the architecture and experimental results related to timing accuracy and localization precision. © 2013 IEEE.
