No one disputes that mobile phones have become part of everyday life. Besides phone calling we use them for browsing, messaging, playing games and many other things which were possible only on a desktop computer several years ago. Although these devices are even more “smart”, but due to the growing resource requirements their batteries are discharging in a very short period. This is a very important phenomenon, which forces to find alternative ways to reduce the energy consumption of the smartphones. One of them is the method of “computation offloading” where a part of the processes are executed on a remote device (e.g. in the cloud). The creation of an energy-efficiency model consists of several steps. One of the hardest part is to understand how a smartphone behaves in different circumstances. During the execution of an application every step has its own energy cost. To make the execution energy-efficiency, we need first to measure and analyse these costs. In this paper we are going to present a measurement system which is used to analyse the energy consumption of smartphones. The measurements were made in different scenarios and the goal was to save energy through offloading some tasks. The offloading process is based on scheduling theory.

Educational games on mobile devices are getting more and more popular due to the widespread usage of tablets among children. The effectiveness of autonomous learning can be increased with the use of properly processed biofeedback signals. The aim of our research is to create skill-developing and educational games with a framework based on estimating cognitive state and neurological feedback, which is general enough to be extended with different biofeedback sensor devices. The goal is to improve the learning efficiency by adapting to the users learning capabilities. Using the heart rate monitor and the EEG device we can examine the emotional and cognitive states of the user, modify the difficulty level and the attributes of the reward to fit the user's needs, helping to get the best results.

In information technology two recent trends can be observed. Mobile computer technology has greatly evolved providing various rich functionalities. Capabilities of mobile terminal is given, more performance can be obtained with adding additional resources. Cloud computing is recognized to be a new area for solving performance issues. These technologies used together can enhance the user experience of the mobile terminal. Sophisticated mobile resource management layer needs to be used, that can utilize extra performance of the cloud. The basis of effective resource management is a precise knowledge of the hardware and software capabilities, furthermore, the usage of mobile terminal. Performance metrics serve as an input for resource management. This study will present architecture of mobile performance measurement and profile creation layer. Key performance metrics are collected and investigated. Attributes of profile creation are also gathered. Architecture is examined, whether it can be later used as an input for mobile resource management.

Using a smartphone become the part of our everyday life in the last few years. These devices can help us in many areas of life (sport, job, weather etc.), but sometimes can be also very annoying because of the battery life time. That is why it is very important to find solutions, which can reduce the energy consumption of the smartphones. One possible method is the “computation offloading” where a part of the processes are executed on a remote device (e.g. in the cloud). A lot of example has already shown, that computation offloading can reduce the energy usage of the mobile devices. However, the amount of energy saving may differ, as the decision making of the offloading process can be controlled with several techniques. Our decision making theory is based on the scheduling theory. In this paper, we are going to introduce a new system called ECGM (Energy efficient Code Generator for Mobile phones). ECGM decides automatically at compile time, which task should run on the smartphone and which task can be offloaded. The benefit of our system will be demonstrated through measurements based on our energy-efficiency scheduling technique.

This paper presents a marker localization system consisting of multiple cameras. It is the basis of a real-time robotic motion tracking system aiming for high localization accuracy and high time resolution. These goals are achieved using several cameras with very redundant field-of-views. The paper presents the theoretical background of 3D camera calibration and localization, the localization accuracy measurement setup, and its results. The measurements are obtained using a color marker and an industrial robotic arm for measurement ground truth generation. With the proliferation of cloud service providers, the use of non-relational (NoSQL) data stores is increasing. In contrast to standard relational database schema design, which has its strong mathematical background in relational algebra and set theory, development with NoSQL data stores is largely based on empirical best practices. Furthermore, the huge variety of NoSQL variants may require different design considerations. In this paper, an algorithm is introduced to automatically derive cost and performance optimal schema in column-oriented data stores based on predefined queries and an initial relational database schema.
