With the introduction of 5G networks, high-speed low-latency network connections became available for mobile and embedded devices without the limited range of WiFi networks. Although the source and the destination can now be hundreds of kilometres away, the communication between them can be flawless. Our goal is to have a low cost, low power, lightweight device that is able to stream video for UAV (unmanned aerial vehicles), mobile robot teleoperation over 5G networks to AR/VR (augmented/virtual reality) applications, to large distances without the need for line of sight. In this paper we compare the latency of existing low cost video streamer solutions (UAV camera streaming, single board computer) and present a custom hardware-software solution optimized for low latency, while conducting measurements over different network types (wired, campus 5G, public 5G). We have shown that the custom device was able to achieve with significantly lower latency (50–80 ms direct over direct connection, about 100–150 ms over public 5G).

In vitro dissolution prediction is a field of phar-maceutical research that aims to predict a tablet's dissolution profile using non-destructive methods based on the tablet's measured manufacturing parameters or composition. One of the most popular non-destructive measurements is Raman chemical imaging, which outputs a Raman map. However, because of the current development of the Raman imaging technique, obtaining large training datasets is very expensive and time-consuming. Still, training popular complex deep learning architectures that may achieve better accuracy is only possible with a large dataset. Therefore this article focuses on utilising pre-trained networks and the transfer learning technique to attempt to solve the problem of the small size of training samples. The results showed that deep neural networks with data augmentation and transfer learning could achieve better accuracy than simple convolutional neural networks. The presented strategies showed the need for an extensive dataset could be handled, and the accuracy could be enhanced, although there is room for further refinement.

This study presents an innovative method to improve the accuracy of indoor mapping by deploying and integrating a sensor that transmits two-dimensional data with a three-dimensional mesh created by another device. The Iterative Closest Point algorithm was used to coordinate the different data sets and transform their different coordinate systems into a common indoor map. Prior to this, rigorous image cleaning and matching processes are conducted to ensure the quality of the data used. The effectiveness of this methodology has been validated through multiple tests using a Lidar scanner and a HoloLens 2 Augmented Reality device. This method not only offers potential for enhancing indoor navigation and safety protocols like emergency evacuation but also presents opportunities for advancing asset tracking and other applications.

The concept of Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) has recently garnered attention in both industrial and academic fields as a promising hardware primitive for enhancing the security of electronic systems and devices. PUFs leverage inherent manufacturing inconsistencies to generate a distinct key for every device. PUFs utilize the inherent manufacturing variations to generate a distinct key for each device despite using identical input values across all devices. A range of PUF types have been developed, such as optical, electronic, and magnetic variations. However, the Ring Oscillator (RO) PUF stands out particularly due to its simple implementation and impressive performance. Due to the limited combinations of the RO-PUF input-output bits, or as it is called in the field of PUFs, challenge-response pairs (CRPs), researchers have developed the configurable ring oscillator (CRO) PUF, which produces a larger set of CRPs by utilizing a configurable inversion unit (CIU) instead of the standard inverter in the traditional design. Most of the recent research primarily focuses on increasing the size of the CRPs and enhancing security features. Yet, there is a lack of emphasis on investigating how the count of ROs affects the performance of the CRO-PUF. This paper uses several performance metrics to investigate the impact of altering the ring oscillator count on the CRO-PUF.

Computer vision systems depend on vast and diverse datasets to achieve optimal performance. However, in scenarios where data collection involves personal identifiable information, privacy-protecting legislation can impede the acquisition process. To address this challenge, we present a novel face anonymization pipeline capable of running on embedded platforms. The proposed methodology combines denoising diffusion probabilistic models (DDPMs) and advanced image super-resolution techniques, such as DFDNet and ESPCN, to achieve high-quality anonymized facial images while preserving crucial facial keypoint locations. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the pipeline’s performance, encompassing image quality, keypoint precision, and efficiency on two popular single-board computers, namely the Nvidia Jetson Nano and the Raspberry Pi 4B. Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs) have been introduced as highly promising hardware primitives for key-based security applications. A PUF can be thought of as a hardware fingerprint that is able to produce a device-specific key for utilization in applications involving device identification and cryptographic key-based security. Among various PUF approaches, the ring oscillator (RO) PUF stands out as the most common PUF design due to its simple implementation and high-performance features. However, RO-PUFs are often classified as weak PUFs due to their limited input-output combinations, commonly referred to as challenge-response pairs within the scope of PUFs. Increasing the CRPs size of traditional RO-PUF results in a proportional growth in the hardware requirements for the RO-PUF design. This correlation arises from the linear relationship between the CRPs size and the hardware resources necessary for the RO-PUF design. Configurable RO-PUF emerged as a solution that expands the CRPs size without a substantial hardware increase. This study evaluates the performance reliability of CRO-PUF across various temperatures. Additionally, we explore the impact of altering the ring oscillators count on the CRO-PUF's performance.

Physically unclonable functions (PUFs) are essential primitives for enhancing hardware security, leveraging the variations in physical characteristics of integrated circuits (ICs) that happen during the manufacturing process. Among various PUF designs, the Ring Oscillator (RO) PUF offers design simplicity and high performance. However, RO-PUFs have been limited in their input-output combinations or what is referred to as challenge-response pairs (CRPs) within the scope of PUFs, classifying them as weak PUFs. Consequently, increasing the CRPs size of the RO-PUF will result in an enhancement of the PUF's overall security attributes. Increasing the CRPs size of a RO-PUF can be achieved through two main methods. Firstly, by increasing the number of ring oscillators in the design which leads to greater hardware demands. Secondly, configurability can be introduced into the individual ring oscillators of the RO-PUF without imposing a substantial demand on hardware resources. Therefore, this paper utilizes the configurability approach to maximize the size of the CRPs set. The evaluation process conducted in this study demonstrates that the proposed design provides excellent results across several performance metrics.

The implementation of the MPTC scheme for high-speed or high-pole drives with high rated fundamental frequency poses many challenges. One of these is the low sampling to fundamental frequency ratio around the rated speed of the machine. The paper proposes a synchronized MPTC scheme for PMSMs, where the sampling frequency is synchronized to the fundamental frequency. The method can eliminate the low order harmonics, achieves better harmonic performance, and reduces the torque ripple at the same sampling frequency without synchronization. The paper also presents a dynamic weighting factor calculation method. Furthermore, the Tustin approximation is used to derive the prediction equations of the PMSM, as it can provide a better and more robust performance at low frequency ratio values due to increased precision. © VDE VERLAG GMBH, Berlin, Offenbach.

Model Predictive Control is a promising technique for electric drives, as it enables optimization for multiple parameters and offers reliable operation with non-linear systems. In this paper, a novel approach is used that aims to harness the advantages of both finite and continuous set model predictive methods in converter-fed AC drive control. The applied method calculates seven predicted states and assigns cost function values to these as a finite set approach would. Then a Quadratic Regression Model is fit upon this cost function data to extend it to the entire modulation region continuously. This transforms the problem into a continuous control set approach. The associated quadratic programming problem can be solved simply and efficiently due to this formulation without the need of iteration. The optimal voltage vector can be applied via Pulse Width Modulation. Simulation and experimental results verify the operation of the predictive torque control for Induction Machines with the proposed method. © VDE VERLAG GMBH, Berlin, Offenbach.

The current direction of development predicts that Reinforcement Learning based data driven control methods can become a next generation technology to control electrical drives instead of the classical model-based techniques. The paper aims to evaluate toolboxes that can be used to train agents for control approaches. The paper helps lay the theoretical bases and provides guidelines for using these toolboxes via a case study.
