In this paper, an improved 3D objective detection algorithm called Frustum PSPNet (F-PSPNet) is proposed combing RGB algorithm and point cloud data. First, the 2D region proposals in the RGB image are generated by using the 2D CNN object detector, and each obtained 2D region proposal is lifted to 3D frustum through the camera projection matrix. Next, the points in the frustums are grouped by sliding along the frustum axis with stride. To improve the utilization of feature information, each set of points is sent to the PointNet added attention mechanism to extract point-wise features. Then, F-PSPNet arrays these features as a feature map for use of its subsequent component of the Pyramid Scene Parsing Network (PSPNet). Finally, 3D object detection and class confidence are done in the proposed F-PSPNet. Experiments on KITTI dataset show that the detection accuracy of F-PSPNet has improved compared with other models, especially in pedestrian detection. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper explains in detail the development, validation and simulation of a standard PI controller that can boost the WECS (Wind energy conversion system) power through two strategies. In the first strategy, the power is boosted by increasing the generator angular velocity through the direct increase of the angular velocity of the wind turbine rotor by slightly pitching the blades. In the second strategy, the power is boosted by increasing the load torque of the generator, through the direct increase of the load torque of the wind turbine rotor. For achieving this goal, the following tasks have been accomplished: a wind energy conversion system nonlinear mathematical model has been developed, a gain scheduled proportional-integral (PI) controller as the baseline controller, and two gain scheduled proportional-integral (PI) power-boosting controllers for the two power-boosting strategies. For the power-boosting controllers, it is also presented a logic that switches between baseline and power booster controllers when certain wind speeds conditions are met. The response, stability, performance and the increase in the shaft torsion, tower and blades bending moments of the gain scheduled PI power-boosting controllers have been compared with the baseline controller. By comparing the output power response of the controllers, it can be seen that the power booster controllers boost the power when the defined conditions are met. Finally, for boosting the power of a WECS in certain conditions the most efficient way is by increasing the generator load torque, because this strategy increases the least the loading of the main components of a WECS. This power boosting strategy implementation it might require the change (or reinforcement) of the drive train shaft, if it cannot take the extra loading created by power boosting controller. © 2022 IEEE.

Marine autonomy research has focused on al-gorithmic and technical developments, targeting autonomous craft in restricted areas where international rules and regu-lations are not prioritised. This paper addresses the system engineering aspect of a highly complex system in which the seamless, predictable, and secure interoperability of vendor-specific hardware and software subsystems is a fundamental requirement for designing and implementing cyber-physical systems with artificial intelligence to assist or replace the navigating officer, such as autonomous marine surface vehicles. It addresses international rules in the sector and exhibits a system architecture that can fulfil the criteria for safe behaviour in foreseen occurrences and the capacity to request human aid if the autonomous system cannot manage a problem. The system thinking and engineering provided in this article have been applied to The GreenHopper, a harbour bus currently under construction and intended to undergo certification and enter commercial service. © 2022 University of Split, FESB.

Both coordination, a behavioral pattern where individuals adopt the same behavior as the majority, and anticoordination, a behavioral pattern where individuals choose a behavior different from the majority, are prevalent in social and engineering scenarios. Examples include the spread of social norms or innovations for coordination and the division of labor and traffic congestion for anti-coordination. Exploring the large-scale interacting systems driven by coordination and anticoordination is of great significance in understanding, predicting, and optimizing the evolutionary outcomes. While existing studies have primarily focused on analyzing the convergence of networked systems and evaluating the time to reach equilibrium, our investigation delves into all possible states of a networked system and scrutinizes all equilibrium states. Notably, we observe that the number of equilibrium states increases exponentially with the network size. Accounting for network structure properties, homogeneous networks exhibit more equilibrium states than heterogeneous networks. Furthermore, for specific behavioral switching thresholds, the number of equilibrium states is surprisingly higher than at neighboring switching thresholds. Our work reveals the intricate interplay between evolutionary dynamics, system structure, and behavioral switching thresholds. © 2024 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of automation.

This paper presents investigations of a transformerless half bridge sub-module (HBSM) modular multilevel converter based distribution static synchronous compensator (MMC D-STATCOM) performance in reactive power compensation considering the application of the modified ADRC controllers in the inner current loop and in the outer DC voltage loop using Synchronous Reference Frame control. Simulation results with the imposition of severe variations in reactive loads were obtained on a 5 km medium voltage feeder and will demonstrate that the modified ADRC controller enables superior performance for flexible operation with fast and efficient response of the MMC D-STATCOM in reactive power compensation. © 2023 IEEE.

The new era of Nanotechnology has found wider applications in all domains of science and technology. The greatest advantage of using Nanoparticles is due to the properties of "Reusability" and "Change of properties in the Nanoscale". These unique properties of Nanoparticles when clubbed with proper instrumentation may prove to be a valuable intervention in saving the water resources of the environment currently being polluted by the Dyeing Industries (Ong et al. in Water 3:157–176, 2011). Conventionally, Nanoparticles’ application in water treatment is generally limited to the filtration of drinking water. We are extending its scope to industrial effluent treatment since dye degradation is one valuable property of Nanoparticles. The organic dye "Congo Red" which is used by textile industries is left out in wastewater. This will be treated with Nickel Oxide Nanoparticles as part of the effluent treatment. Hence, this would result in achieving perfect color-free recycled water. We will be using a microcontroller to automate this process to improve the efficiency of the Nanoparticle reacting with the color dye in wastewater treatment. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

This paper investigates the problems of H8 consensus control for high-order fully actuated multi-agent systems (HOFAMASs) with external disturbances. By utilizing the characteristics of high-order fully actuated systems (HOFASs), the distributed control protocols are designed, eliminating all nonlinear characteristics of open loop systems while establishing new closed-loop dynamic characteristics. Then, the H8 consensus problems of HOFAMASs are addressed. The corresponding parameters to be designed in the distributed control protocols are given by using linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). A novel multi-spacecraft attitude model is proposed based on HOFASs. An illustrative example of the multi-spacecraft attitude model is given, in order to demonstrate the effectiveness and application of the results proposed in this paper. © 2024 IEEE.

In industrial sites, multiple real-time control systems often share computing resources. However, burst computing tasks may lead to the random dropping of control computing subtasks, resulting in control failures and potential hazards. To address this issue, we propose an energy-efficient safety-aware task scheduling scheme based on mixed-integer programming. When burst computing tasks are triggered, this scheduling scheme adaptively releases resources from low-criticality control computing subtasks and adjusts the processor speed based on the dynamic voltage and frequency scaling technology (DVFS), ensuring the timely completion of burst computing tasks and keeping the control system state deviation within a safe threshold. To achieve the scheduling scheme, we propose an efficient algorithm called EESASA. Simulation results show that EESASA can minimize the overall cost of control and processor energy while ensuring the safety of the control system and the timely completion of burst computing tasks. © 2024 IEEE.

Considering the high energy consumption problem in the wastewater treatment process, this paper proposes a multi-objective optimization control scheme based on NSGA-II algorithm. The proposed scheme can not only ensures meet effluent quality requirements but also can achieves energy cost savings. This method takes the aeration energy consumption and pumping energy consumption of the system as the optimization goal with the effluent water quality being the constraint condition. At the same time, the adaptive fuzzy PID controller is designed to ensure the control accuracy and stability of the controlled system. The results of simulation experiments validated in benchmark simulation platform, BSM1, show that, compared with PI control and single-objective optimization control, the proposed optimization scheme in this paper can achieve the desired quality of the effluent water withmore energy-saving. © 2023 IEEE.

Short-term load forecasting of buildings plays a key role in demand management, however, when dealing with massive data, the prevalent practice of training and testing the system as a whole overlooks pattern variations inside data and potentially limits predictive performance. To address this issue, this paper proposes an ensemble deep random vector functional link (edRVFL) model that combines adaptive ensemble clustering and dynamic weighting strategy for load forecasting of an industrial building. Firstly, the adaptive ensemble clustering that combines ordering points to identify the clustering structure and K nearest neighbor is employed to determine the electricity load usage patterns. Subsequently, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is applied to adjust the weights of load curves in different typical day scenarios. Finally, a dynamic weighting strategy is designed to dynamically assign model weights to two clusters, where one matches the type of predicted load pattern for the day being forecasted and another for the cluster of the previous day. The experiment in a real building verifies the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, which has higher prediction accuracy than other comparison algorithms including one-week interval and different ensemble clustering. © 2024 IEEE.
