Brain computer interface (BCI) is a device that allows us to scan brainwaves. Achieved signals can be processed using a computer and the analyzed brain activity can be than monitored. In this paper, the use of the non-invasive brain scanning method applied on person at solving a system of equations is described. This solving the system of equations was obtained by two mathematical methods. The measurement was performed for solving equations by Gaussian elimination and by substitution methods separately. The results of the measurements were visualized by graphing the brain activity. The aim of the work is to determine the more practical method of those two. © 2019 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

With rapid urbanization, smart cities have become essential for enhancing urban management and sustainability by integrating technological, social, and institutional innovations. Among these innovations, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications and electric vehicles (EVs) play a critical role in reducing carbon emissions and optimizing urban mobility. To address the existing gaps in holistic V2X integration, this paper presents a novel eco-assistive fog-based traffic management system (EAFTMS) that leverages a four-tier architecture (IoT, fog, cloud, and application) for scalable, real-time traffic optimization. A key innovation of this system is the AI-driven point exchange system (PES), designed to incentivize sustainable behaviors such as reducing unnecessary vehicle usage and promoting green lifestyle choices. Unlike conventional models, the proposed framework incorporates real-time behavioral monitoring, rewards-based sustainability programs, and V2X-enabled dynamic traffic control. Empirical validation demonstrates that EAFTMS outperforms existing models, including support vector regression (SVR), achieving a 30% reduction in latency, a 40% improvement in response time, a 25% increase in traffic flow efficiency, and a 35% reduction in CO2 emissions. These results highlight the framework’s potential to set new standards in intelligent green cities by offering scalable, practical, and environmentally impactful solutions to urban transportation challenges. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Many real-world optimization problems exhibit dynamic characteristics, posing significant challenges for traditional optimization techniques. Evolutionary Dynamic Optimization Algorithms (EDOAs) are designed to address these challenges effectively. However, in existing literature, the reported results for a given EDOA can vary significantly. This inconsistency often arises because the source codes for many EDOAs, which are typically complex, have not been made publicly available, leading to error-prone re-implementations. To support researchers in conducting experiments and comparing their algorithms with various EDOAs, we have developed an open-source MATLAB platform called the Evolutionary Dynamic Optimization LABoratory (EDOLAB). This platform not only facilitates research but also includes an educational module designed for instructional purposes. The education module allows users to observe: a) a 2-dimensional problem space and its morphological changes following each environmental change, b) the behaviors of individuals over time, and c) how the EDOA responds to environmental changes and tracks the moving optimum. Recently, the field of fractional calculus has garnered significant attention due to its wide range of applications across various disciplines in science and engineering. Numerous results have been derived using tools from numerical functional analysis and fixed point theory to address a variety of problems in this area. This study employs the Banach Fixed Point Theorem (BFPT) to establish the existence and uniqueness of solutions for Riemann–Liouville fractional differential equations (RLFDEs) involving multiple orders. Sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to the problem under consideration have been provided. Furthermore, an illustrative example is presented to validate the theoretical findings. © 2025

The focus of this contribution is twofold. The first part aims at the rigorous and complete analysis of pole loci of a simple delayed model, the characteristic function of which is represented by a quasi-polynomial with a non-delay and a delay parameter. The derived spectrum constitutes an infinite set, making it a suitable and simple-enough representative of even high-order process dynamics. The second part intends to apply the simple infinite-dimensional model for relay-based parameter identification of a more complex model of a heating-cooling process with heat exchangers. Processes of this type and construction are widely used in industry. The identification procedure has two substantial steps. The first one adopts the simple model with a low computational effort using the saturated relay that provides a more accurate estimation than the standard on/off test. Then, this result is transformed to the estimation of the initial characteristic equation parameters of the complex infinite-dimensional heat-exchanger model using the exact dominant-pole-loci assignment. The benefit of this technique is that multiple model parameters can be estimated under a single relay test. The second step attempts to estimate the remaining model parameters by various numerical optimization techniques and also to enhance all model parameters via the Autotune Variation Plus relay experiment for comparison. Although the obtained unordinary time and frequency domain responses may yield satisfactory results for control tasks, the identified model parameters may not reflect the actual values of process physical quantities. © 2021, CC BY.

The 2,4,5-Triphenyl Imidazole (TPI) were deposited as thin film by means of the physical vapor deposition (PVD) on glass and silicon substrates. On the other hand, three solutions were prepared with different concentrations using Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) solvent. The physical properties of all samples were investigated using different techniques. For this purpose, the morphology of the thin film was analysed with the atomic force microscopy (AFM) and showed a highly rough surface. The optical properties of the thin film and the solutions were investigated via transmittance, and absorbance, which helped determine a band gap of 3.45 eV. Photoluminescence and thermal photoluminescence spectroscopy showed the high emission of the material in its different aspects. While theoretical simulations of the HOMO-LUMO gap and electronic absorption spectra were acquired using the Density Functional Theory (DFT) approach. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a concept for an integrated process chain for tooling production based on metal additive manufacturing. The proposed approach aims at taking advantage of a fully digitized production line, describing the main steps for the synergetic integration of the manufacturing assets. The production line entails digital infrastructure that collects and elaborate data from various monitoring sensors to execute corrective actions and continuously optimize the process. This line will bring breakthrough benefits, like flexibility and full traceability. Also challenges, as change management in the industry, skills gap, the requirement of new business models and product re-design have been addressed. © 2020 The Authors.

A conversational agent (chatbot) is a piece of software that is able to communicate with humans using natural language. Modeling conversation is an important task in natural language processing and artificial intelligence (AI). Indeed, ever since the birth of AI, creating a good chatbot remains one of the field’s hardest challenges. While chatbots can be used for various tasks, in general they have to understand users’ utterances and provide responses that are relevant to the problem at hand. In the past, methods for constructing chatbot architectures have relied on hand-written rules and templates or simple statistical methods. With the rise of deep learning these models were quickly replaced by end-to-end trainable neural networks around 2015. More specifically, the recurrent encoder-decoder model [Cho et al., 2014] dominates the task of conversational modeling. This architecture was adapted from the neural machine translation domain, where it performs extremely well. Since then a multitude of variations [Serban et al., 2016] and features were presented that augment the quality of the conversation that chatbots are capable of. In my work, I conduct an in-depth survey of recent literature, examining over 70 publications related to chatbots published in the last 3 years. Then I proceed to make the argument that the very nature of the general conversation domain demands approaches that are different from current state-of-the-art architectures. Based on several examples from the literature I show why current chatbot models fail to take into account enough priors when generating responses and how this affects the quality of the conversation. In the case of chatbots these priors can be outside sources of information that the conversation is conditioned on like the persona [Li et al., 2016a] or mood of the conversers.
