The aim of the study was to determine the influence of the laser processing on the properties of electro-spark coatings. The properties were assessed by analyzing the coating microstructure, X-ray radiation, microhardness, corrosion resistance, porosity and tribological tests. In addition, the paper presents the results of measurements and analysis of electrical pulse during ESD. The tests were carried out on WC-Cu coating (the anode) obtained by electro spark deposition over carbon steel C45 (the cathode) and molten with a laser beam. The coatings were deposited by means of the EIL-8A and they were laser treated with the Nd:YAG. The tests show that the laser-treated electro-spark deposited WC-Cu coatings are characterized by lower hardness and friction force, higher seizure resistance, roughness. The laser treatment process causes the homogenization of the chemical composition, the structure refinement and the healing of microcracks and pores of the electro-spark deposited coatings. Laser treated electro-spark deposited coatings are likely to be applied in sliding friction pairs and as protective coatings.

Modern battery management systems (BMS) for advanced battery energy storages are expected to provide sufficient and reliable State-of-Charge (SoC) and State-of-Health (SoH) information. Focusing also on mid- and long-term maintenance purposes, health monitoring can be realized only by using high performance real-time estimation algorithms involving online electrical battery cell model. Due to the nonlinear I-V characteristics of cells and multivariable nonlinear functions describing the model parameters, a real-time model synthesized to FPGA seems to be the best solution to fulfill also the strongest requirements of energy management and e-mobility applications in respect of scalability, modularity, accuracy and effectiveness. In this paper, an FPGA-synthesizable battery cell model is presented and proposed. The design approach is discussed from offline to online model design including the model considerations using MATLAB/Simulink®. The performance analysis and evaluation referenced to the offline model are presented and discussed. © 2016, Technical University of Budapest. All rights reserved.

This paper proposes a set of evolving Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy models of the nonlinear dynamic mechanisms occurring in the myoelectric-based control of prosthetic hand fingers. The rule bases and the parameters of the TSK fuzzy models are evolved by an online identification algorithm. The experimental results prove the performance of the TSK fuzzy models by good output responses and root mean square error values. A performance comparison with two recurrent neural network architectures is included.

Modern cellular networks utilising the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) set of standards face an ever-increasing demand for mobile data from connected devices. Header compression is employed to minimise the overhead for IP-based cellular network traffic. In this paper, we evaluate the three header compression implementations used by such networks with respect to their potential throughput increase and complexity for different mobile service scenarios. We compare RTP, UDP and TCP profile compressions regarding their compression gain and complexity. Specifically, we consider header compression as defined by (i) IP Header Compression (RFC 2507), (ii) Robust Header Compression version 1 (RFC 3095), and (iii) the recently updated Robust Header Compression version 2 (RFC 5225) with TCP/IP profile (RFC 6846).This paper presents the performance evaluation of these header compression schemes for UDP, RTP and TCP, for both IPv4 and IPv6 streams in error-free and error-prone scenarios. A comparison between the Robust Header Compression methods and IP Header Compression is also provided. Our results show that all implementations have great potential for saving bandwidth in IP-based wireless networks, even under varying channel conditions. We also present for the first time an analysis of certain RTP header fields which, depending on the transmission characteristics, could have high impact on the overall compression gain. © 2016, Technical University of Budapest. This paper presents a nonlinear numerical observer for accurate position, velocity and attitude (PVA) estimation including the accelerometer bias and gyro bias estimation. The Moving Horizon Observer (MHO) processes the accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer measurements from the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and the position and velocity measurements from the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The nonlinear measurement equations with the rotation matrix, expressed through the quaternion parametrization, in combination with the state-space rigid body kinematic model of translational and rotational motion is the subject of optimization defined on a receding data window. The gradient-based trust-region method is applied to solve the MHO's nonlinear least-squares criterion. The MHO is tesed off-line in the numerical experiment involving the experimental flight data from a light fixed-wing aircraft. This study demonstrates the quality of the MHO computations with the comparison of the reference filter, the multiplicative Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). © 2015, IFAC (International Federation of Automatic control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd. In this paper, the uncertain dynamic active pantograph-catenary system which considers the effect of time-varying stiffness resulting from the uneven overhead wire is investigated to improve current collection for light rail vehicle. In order to achieve stable current collection, and hence improve the performance of the overall electricity supply, sliding mode control strategy and adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control scheme are combined. The uplift force which is applied to pantograph frame by actuator is constructed by incorporating fuzzy neural network (FNN) and sliding mode control to attenuate the chattering problem resulting from the sliding mode control. Based on the Lyapunov stability theorem, the active control law and adaptive laws for the free parameters of the FNNs can be derived to effectively suppress vibration of the pantograph system.

This paper is aimed at the presentation and simulation verification of a novel simple and fast delay dependent stability (DDS) testing algorithm for linear time-invariant time delay systems (LTI TDS). The algorithm can be used for systems with multiple delays and/or those with many controller parameters. Value ranges of delays and tunable parameters decide about the (exponential) stability of LTI TDS and the goal is to determine such ranges that might not be convex. Our numerical gridding iterative DDS algorithm is based on the finite dimensional approximation of the characteristic quasipolynomial by means of the Taylor series expansion or a Padé-like approach followed by the Regula-Falsi result enhancement. Stability regions are sought through the determination of crossing delays (or parameters) which cause the system stability switching. Numerical simulation experiments performed in MATLAB® environment prove a sufficient accuracy and the practical usability of the proposed DDS algorithm. © ECMS Valeri M.
