The paper deals with the robust control of airflow in air heating set. The identification is performed using step responses and approximation via second order system. The controller is designed using the structured singular value (SSV or μ) and algebraic approach. Since the cost function is nonconvex the optimization cannot be done using standard tools. Hence an evolutionary algorithm - Differential Migration (DM) is employed yielding good results in this case. The functionality of the controller is verified through experiments on the real plant. © 2013 IEEE.

Nowadays BitTorrent is a popular peer-to-peer file sharing protocol. Thanks to the advancement and prevalence of smart phones the usage of the protocol is increasing, since mobile devices are capable of joining BitTorrent swarms as well. The key of the protocol is to distribute content between peers therefore it is very important that peers have reliable network connections and provide the correct content. In this paper we analyze the reliability of BitTorrent protocol in mobile environment by observing the availability rate of peers and the poisoning phenomenon in the system. For this research we have collected anonymous statistics retrieved by clients using DrTorrent. DrTorrent is a BitTorrent client that we have implemented on the Android platform. It was published on Google Play Store almost half a year ago and we have collected many experiences since then. In this research we introduce statistics and real measurements about DrTorrent and highlight the key points and relationships. This work can be considered as a pioneer work in the field of modern smart phone peer-to-peer research. © 2013 IEEE.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) applications for mobile devices are becoming more and more popular because of increasing bandwidth, computational performance and storage capabilities. Such a mobile based distributed architecture offers significant advantages in several scenarios from the perspective of both users and network operators. In these situations, a certain redundancy must be built into the system because the availability of the nodes can vary greatly. The goal of this paper is to present a methodology to minimize the necessary redundancy by predicting the number of available nodes. The prediction is performed in two steps, first an estimation is done locally at the node level, then a centralized aggregation is executed. We propose a hypothesis which highlights the key advantages of our solution when compared to single step estimation. Finally we discuss about the correctness of the computed redundancy. © 2013 IEEE.

Real-time implementation of multiple model based predictive control strategy to air/fuel ratio of a gasoline engine

Growing safety, pollution and comfort requirements influence automotive industry ever more. The use of three-way catalysts in exhaust aftertreatment systems of combustion engines is essential in reducing engine emissions to levels demanded by environmental legislation. However, the key to the optimal catalytic conversion level is to keep the engine air/fuel ratio (AFR) at a desired level. Thus, for this purposes more and more sophisticated AFR control algorithms are intensively investigated and tested in the literature. The goal of this paper is to present for a case of a gasoline engine the model predictive AFR controller based on the multiple-model approach to the engine modeling. The idea is to identify the engine in particular working points and then to create a global engine's model using Sugeno fuzzy logic. Opposite to traditional control approaches which lose their quality beside steady state, it enables to work with satisfactory quality mainly in transient regimes. Presented results of the multiple-model predictive air/fuel ratio control are acquired from the first experimental real-time implementation on the VWPolo 1390cm3 gasoline engine, at which the original electronic control unit (ECU) has been fully replaced by a dSpace prototyping system which execute the predictive controller. Required control performance has been proven and is presented in the paper.

To investigate the genetic basis of type 2 diabetes (T2D) to high resolution, the GoT2D and T2D-GENES consortia catalogued variation from whole-genome sequencing of 2,657 European individuals and exome sequencing of 12,940 individuals of multiple ancestries. Over 27M SNPs, indels, and structural variants were identified, including 99% of low-frequency (minor allele frequency [MAF] 0.1-5%) non-coding variants in the whole-genome sequenced individuals and 99.7% of low-frequency coding variants in the whole-exome sequenced individuals. Each variant was tested for association with T2D in the sequenced individuals, and, to increase power, most were tested in larger numbers of individuals (>80% of low-frequency coding variants in ~82 K Europeans via the exome chip, and ~90% of low-frequency non-coding variants in ~44 K Europeans via genotype imputation). The variants, genotypes, and association statistics from these analyses provide the largest reference to date of human genetic information relevant to T2D, for use in activities such as T2D-focused genotype imputation, functional characterization of variants or genes, and other novel analyses to detect associations between sequence variation and T2D.

A basic control course is taught for electrical engineering students at the University of Debrecen, Hungary. Through two semesters the students get a basic knowledge on control concepts. Every week there are 2 hours of theoretical lectures immediately followed by 2 hours of MATLAB based interactive computer laboratories. In the curriculum besides the conventional material new aspects of control design such as Youla parametrization have also been included. Practical considerations as e.g. controller saturation are also dealt with. The paper reviews briefly the curriculum and the educational process of this program.

The RobonAUT robot construction contest in 2013

This paper presents the robot constructing contest called RobonAUT, where teams of three have to design and compete against each other using their robot. During the course of the contest students can learn how to do the mechanics, electronics and programming of an autonomous mobile robot. The event takes place on two fields. The first is a field where robots have to complete certain stager in less than five minutes to score. On the second field speed is essential and the units have to speed up to score. They have to detect different obstacles with sensor systems that teams connected to a certain type of robot kit. In 2013 the field got more difficult obstacles, like the finish, which was a horizontal surface, but now it is a slope where robots have to stop. Obstacle avoidance is the other obstacle where one side of the object is corded and the other is smooth, the robot have to detect the pattern on the wall.

Eurobot is an international competition where autonomous robots are competing against each other. This contest is organized in every year since 1998. This article introduces the electrical and mechanical designing steps of an autonomous robot, which was constructed for the contest. Additionally upgraded parts of the electrical system compared to previous years are also presented in this paper. We go into details about the positioning system, which includes absolute and relative positioning methods, and we analyze the development opportunities of them. The introduction of the hardware and software architecture, navigation algorithm are also part of this article. We focus on the designing experiences and development opportunities of the system.

On a controller parameterization for infinite-dimensional feedback systems based on the desired overshoot

The aim of this paper is to introduce, in detail, a novel approach for tuning of anisochronic singleinput single-output controllers for infinite-dimensional feedback control systems. A class of Linear Time- Invariant Time Delay Systems (LTI TDSs) is taken as a typical representative of infinite-dimensional systems. control design to obtain the eventual controller structure is made in the special ring of quasipolynomial meromorphic functions (RMS). The use of this algebraic approach with a simple feedback loop for unstable or integrating systems leads to infinite-dimensional (delayed) controllers as well as the whole feedback loop. A natural task is to set tunable controller parameters in order to form the crucial area of the infinite closed-loop spectrum. It is worth noting that not only poles yet also zeros are taken into account. The prescribed positions of the right-most reference-to-output poles and zeros are given on the basis of the desired overshoot for a simple finite-dimensional matching model the detailed analysis of which is provided. The dominant poles and zeros are shifted to the prescribed positions using the Quasi-Continuous Shifting Algorithm (QCSA) followed by the use of an advanced optimization algorithm. The whole methodology is called the Pole-Placement Shifting based controller tuning Algorithm (PPSA). The PPSA is demonstrated on the setting of parameters of delayed controller for an unstable time delay plant of a skater on the controlled swaying bow. This example, however, shows a treachery of the algorithm and a natural feature of an infinite-dimensional system - namely, that its spectrum or even its dominant part can not be placed arbitrarily. Advantages and drawback as well as possible modification of the algorithm are also discussed.
