Paper deals with design and implementation of portable data acquisition unit based on 8-bit microcontroller Freescale 68HC908GP32 in process control and supervision applications. Its hardware design is adopted to fulfill high reliability and immunity against industrial environment, high precision and compact dimensions. Communication with supervision system is performed via standard RS232 interface utilizing universal ASCII-based communication protocol which is supported by number of software environments. In order to improve development of new software applications with this device a support program libraries for Visual C++, control Web and Matlab/Simulink was created. Correct function of the data acquisition device and support software libraries were tested on educational model of heating plant with time delay in Matlab 6.5 and control Web environments.

The paper deals with influence of a single scalar positive tuning parameter on performance properties of the closed control loop which contains algebraically designed PI controller while the response quality is evaluated by the size of first under- or overshoots. The controller coefficients are calculated from general solutions of diophantine equations in the ring of proper and Hurwitz stable rational functions. Subsequently, these controllers can be tuned by the only parameter. The contribution brings simple tuning rules and, moreover, it presents their possible practical application during control of real laboratory model assumed as system with parametric uncertainty.

Optimal pulse width modulation (PWM) problem is an established method of generating PWM waveforms with low baseband distortion. In this paper we focused on computation of optimal switching angles of a odd PWM waveform for generating general odd symmetric waveforms. We introduce an exact and fast algorithm with the complexity of only O(n log 2 n) arithmetic operations. This algorithm is based on transformation of appropriate trigonometric equations for each harmonics to a polynomial system of equations that is transferred to a special system of sum of powers. The solution of this system is carried out by modification of Newtonpsilas identity via Pade approximation and orthogonal polynomials theory and property of symmetric polynomials. Finally, the optimal switching sequence is obtained by computing the zeros of two orthogonal polynomials in one variable.

A new multipurpose laboratory of building technology has been built in Tomas Bata University, faculty of appliedinformatics and set into test operation. The laboratory supports several subjects like modern HVAC system applications, with renewable sources of energy implemented (solar collectors and reversible heat pump application), and a comprehensive system of control, based on the open bus communication system KNX , communication gate based on the TCP/IP protocol. The laboratory is as well equipped as a training tool for control systems based on bus communication particularly KNX (finished) and LONWORKS and BACNET (under construction). The paper describes the first results achieved by the laboratory.

The main goal of this paper is to propose application of modern multidimensional systems identification algorithms of the subspace identification theory in the context of fMRI data analysis. The methods originated in 1990s in the field of process control and identification and yield robust linear model parameter estimates for systems with many inputs, outputs and states. Our ultimate goal is to establish an alternative to the DCM analysis procedure which would eliminate its main drawbacks, namely the need to pre-define the models structure. The paper discusses results based on simulated data provided by the DCM simulator in the SPM toolbox. Several scenarios are presented, with varying amount of noise and number of data samples.

For a planetary surface exploration, grinding and drilling equipment is one of the mo st important devices in geological observation of sampled rocks. However, the equipment can't be directly applied for works in the space. More specifically, the weight of drilling and grinding machines generally used on the Earth is so heavy, an d they need lubricant. Therefore it is difficult to use them in the space. In this paper, we analyze transient process of destroyed surface of rocks. Especially, we focus on contact points between sampled rocks and the top of a horn. Through the analysis, we can suggest that a ultra sonic based device is effective to implement drilling and grinding of rocks in the space. The analysis suggests that a ultra sonic based device is effective to realize drilling and grinding of rocks in the space.

The paper investigates several pole placement methods in the linear case and suggests a new pole placement method by means of fuzzy linear equations. The linear methods concern the constant real part poles, the poles places on a circle, Butterworth configurations without and with the correction of the imaginary part, the pole-zero cancellation, and the poles placed on an ellipse. Low order systems are considered. The pole placement methods are compared by the digital simulation of control systemspsila behaviors with respect to the modification of the reference input. The conclusions are useful for continuous control systems, and they can be extended easily to digital control systems including quasi-continuous ones.

The growing demand for the utilization of clean energy resources requires consideration of more efficient and economical ways in the usage of available resources and technologies. In the field of solar energy both the efficiency and the economics, i.e. the payback times are crucial questions for a more widespread application of this resource in the future. A novel solution and system are proposed in the paper aimed at enhancing the amount of energy that can be harvested from solar radiation in the same area. The basis of the method presented is a special construction of combined Photovoltaic/Thermal panels that can generate heat power to produce hot water, while the photovoltaic part provides electric power for covering the electric power consumption of loads, to supply its own electronic control units and to operate pump drives etc. The theoretical predictions of the electric part of the system are confirmed by laboratory test results. The system and the overall control structure, including the MPPT control, are presented assuming stand-alone operation but parallel operation is also possible.
