The paper deals with design of a robust controller via algebraic mu-synthesis for two tank system, which is a well known benchmark problem. The controller is designed by decoupling two-input two-output system into two identical SISO (Single-Input Single-Output) plants. The task of designing the robust controller is then performed by finding a suitable pole placement for the SISO systems with the robustness assessed by structured singular value denoted mu for generalized plant. The final controller is compared with D-K iteration as a standard tool for mu-synthesis through simulation for nominal plant and plant perturbed by the worst case perturbation.

The paper investigates the possibility of modeling the highly nonlinear and very complex Sorensen model, [1], of Type 1 diabetic patients using the polytopic LPV modeling possibility. The contribution is focused on brief description of proposed control design process and primarily on practical application of obtained simple robust control algorithms. The synthesis is based on general solutions of Diophantine equations in the ring of proper and stable rational functions, Youla-Kucera parameterization and divisibility conditions and one of its main advantages can be seen in existence of single scalar tuning parameter. The real-time control behaviour has been tested on laboratory model of hot-air tunnel which has been mathematically described by various transfer functions containing parametric type of uncertainty.

Stroke extraction is a necessary part of the majority of semantic based off-line signature verification systems. This paper discusses some stroke extraction variants which can be efficiently used in such environments. First the different aspects and problems of signature verification are discussed in conjunction with off-line analysis methods. It is shown, that on-line analysis methods perform usually better than off-line methods because they can make use of the temporal information (and thereby get a better perception of the semantics of the signature). To improve the accuracy of off-line signature verification methods the extraction of semantic information is necessary. Three different approaches are introduced to reconstruct the original strokes of a signature. One purely based on simple image processing algorithms, one with some more intelligent processing and one with a pen model. The methods are examined and compared with regard to their benefits and drawbacks on further signature processing.

engineering for development, production, and other product related company activities are being organized in virtual systems for lifecycle management of product data. This new age of engineering is a result of the continuous development for step-by-step moving of product design, analysis and other production engineering activities from conventional environments to modeling environments during the eighties and nineties. However, more developments were needed in knowledge based decision assistance in order to realize modeling of human intent, increasingly complex product structures, and efficient communication of product data. In recent years, a great change of engineering methodology and software produced program products in knowledge technology and advanced local and global communication. Group work of engineers is increasingly organized around special portals for engineering on the Internet. Although intensive research activities produced outstanding methods in knowledge-based solutions for engineering, these methods have not widespread in the industrial modeling practice. This paper attempts to evaluate the possibility that recent communication and knowledge intensive engineering modeling can be developed into communication and knowledge intensive virtual space technology. Paper starts with a discussion on integrated application of different groups of product modeling techniques. Following this, methods are evaluated for the management of product data (PDM). Next section emphasizes aspects, contexts, and intents as primary issues in modeling for relationships in product data and decisions by engineers. Finally, methods for the management of engineering activities for lifecycle of products are summarized, considering communities of engineers around Internet portals.

This paper presents a novel approach for off-line signature verification. First the different aspects and problems of signature verification are discussed in conjunction with off-line analysis methods. It is shown, that on-line analysis methods perform usually better than off-line methods because they can make use of the temporal information (and thereby get a better perception of the semantics of the signature). An assumption is made, that off-line verification methods have difficulties improving their results because of the high level of abstraction they use, which is a direct consequence of the missing semantics. Afterwards a solution is presented with the ability to preserve some semantic information, and thereby deliver a better ability to analyze the results and optimize the system.

An attempt to connect finite automata theory with multi-agent systems is presented. The purpose is to obtain an accurate way to plan and control the robot activities within a multi-robot system. The proposed model is an adapted Moore machine, which is to be used with a contract net protocol agent coordination procedure. The considered architecture was tested in an educational flexible manufacturing system with two industrial robots.
